thinking of becoming X NRA Life member
I'm tired of the NRA suits,especally Wayne Lapieare doing nothing except wanting money,so they can go on Safari,and giving away my 2nd Ammendment Rights. i have called e mailed and written them and never get any reply. i think the GOA has lots more intrest in our rights than the nra. i have been a member for over 30 years, but i think it's about time to change organizations.

I dropped the NRA years ago. I got tired of them pushing the political agenda of a few elites and constantly begging for money. 0 -
If it is really that bad being a member (I'm not, for many of the reasons mentioned above), and esp. a life member (they got your one time fee, no more annual $) then start the change from within.
Lowering membership (like I should talk...) only gives the antis one more bullet point at a presentation, and doesn't get the organization to change to represent what apparently LOTs of its members feel....
I'll put my $$ where my mouth is - if someone wants to make a change, register a domain name (changethenra.org and nrachange.org are both available at the moment, I'm sure there are others its just the first I thought of) and let me know. I've been a life member for almost 40 years. I was there when Harlan Carter tried to take the NRA back at the annual meeting in Cincinnati. Unfortunately, he was co-opted and became a little more than a sad figurehead, while nothing really changed. In fact, it only got worse. In all the time that I've been a member there have only been four consistencies in the NRA: 1) they want more money every year; 2) a handful of the fat cats on the board get richer and acquire more "perks" than a battalion of academy award winners; 3) they give away some portion of the 2nd amendment and then spend our money telling us what a great job they've done because it could have been worse; and 4) W$ayn$ and his family get richer. If we as members were allowed to see an honest account of how and where our money is being spent, even those who have defended him and his cronies would run him out of town on a rail. Just a couple of examples serve to illustrate the point. First, I'll give you two guesses as to who has had more family members feeding at the trough of the NRA than anyone else and the first two guesses don't count especially after you learn that it was one of W$ayn$e's relatives that received the unbid bulk mail contract. (Sort of explains all that junk mail too, doesn't it?) And, second, several years ago I had a year assignment in Washington, D.C. So while I was there I figured that I'd go over and volunteer 20-30 hours a week at the NRA headquarters which was still in D.C. at the time and within walking distance of my apartment. At first they were simply flustered that someone, especially a lowly member, would just walk in off the street and expect to be put to work as a volunteer. Then they became angry at me for thinking that I, a mere peon, could possibly have anything to offer them. Finally, they simply told me to leave and never come back because they "only used professionals" and to do otherwise would be to betray the trust that had been given to them by the other members, of which I was one. So I went back to my office in the Castle at the Smithsonian and never set foot in the building, attended a single event, gave a solitary dime, or recruited a solitary member since that day. 0 -

Well, I just joined Gun Brokers and also this forum. After reading these posts I just took a break and joined GOA. In a way, I hate the thought of not rejoining the NRA as I am passionate about our rights of gun ownership and want to contribute to organizations that think the same way. It's a shame I hear such bad things about the NRA. It seems like a lot of other big organizations, just after our money. I was a strong supporter of the NRA in the 70's in Ca though I forget which number the proposition was! I came to this country to get away from England's ridiculous gun laws in the early 70's and was in the gun business in Ca for a few years. Anyway, glad to be a part of this. Mark. 0 -
Life memberships don't make dollar and cents. Example: I am 70 and for life membership in the Safari Club International it cost $650.00 at $55.00 per year I would be 82 years old when I pay myself back for becoming a life member.
Would the NRA act as membership directs them if every member paid for life, You have better control of NRA policy, paying annually, dropping out is an attention getter, with the hierarchy of big organizations this is the only way of getting managements attention, cutting them off at the pockets.0 -
You will find that GOA is also mostly interested in your money. They may do more lobbying with it, but you will see their hand out a lot. 0 -

Whenever you hear the anti-gun people talking about anything they are fighting....its the NRA. The future of guns is not an easy thing to predict. All I can say is that the NRA along with all of the other organizations have a long time ahead of them defending our rights. I'm for ALL of them having every member they can to fight for us.
I am not happy to hear about how some of our donations are being spent....but what organization doesn't have a top few spending buckets of money? Charities, government, business, even the church has this problem. The NRA just has the "light" shown on their bad apples. If I were against people's rights to bear arms...I think aggrivating people to the point of wanting out of the NRA would be some feat to accomplish.....wouldn't it.0 -
I don't think I could ever be a life member. When you swallow that hook, you lose what little leverage you might have. I'd rather tell them that I might renew if I thought they were doing more than just using my money to pay envelope stuffers. I certainly don't represent a lot of money to the NRA, but it's a start.
I've already related the story of an NRA phone solicitor who called my patriotism into question when I didn't promise to send more money. I just told her I'd put my DD-214 up against hers any day. When she professed she didn't know what that was, I gleefully turned the tables.
God, that was fun. And I haven't had to do it since, but I am becoming more concerned with their apparent mismanagement of my money.0 -

It isn't about bad apples, or about how some donations are being spent by management that is the issue.
It IS about the ORGANIZATION'S stance and the ORGANIZATION'S actions relating to Amendment II, of the Bill of Rights, of the US Constitution. It is that simple.
In the long term, the NRA is the anti-gun lobby's best friend. The NRA will slowly compromise the RKBA away, WITH the blessing and support of the supposed gun-rights/gun-owning crowd.
Frustrating to see so many that don't get it.
No disrespect, but do some research on your own. If you educate yourself and still support the NRA, you at least are an informed and honest gun-restriction proponent.0
