What to do ?
I was on the farm today and found 50 gallon propane tank that really old. Its been on the farm for more years that my family has own the land about 35 years now. Well the tank do have some gas in it! maybe not much but the valve is locked up! Hum my mind is thinking and its pretty close to my rifle range so it would be no problem to get it there?

I have met my deductible for my health insurance medical and pharmacy 5000 dollars.
Last month my meds were free. I usually pay 150 dollars a month.
I get my meds tomorrow from a mom and pop pharmacy. Al the pharmacist/owner called me and now he is losing money filling my prescriptions.
We worked out a deal where i pay 4 dollars a prescription x 12 so i will have to pay 48 dollars per month.
Or i could go to Walmart or somewhere and get them for free.
I have been dealing with this pharmacy for 17 or 18 years.
I guess i am going to just give him 48 dollars and stay with him.

I am in the prossess of cleaning my bedroom (which is a major acomplishment for me![;)]).
I am running into a major problem!
I do not have enuff room for all my guns!
I have my cabinet jam packed full and my bare walls in my walk-in closet is lined up with them as well.
If I get some racks for the kids' rooms and put their rifles in thier rooms I should just make it on room!
How do you all feel about me letting my kids keep thier guns in thier rooms?
I would of course remove the bolts from them and all ammo is stored in my room as well. I talked with one sheriff friend of mine (who has met my kids and knows how they are with guns) and he see's no problem with me doing this because they are trustworthy around all firearms.

If they can't be fired, and you trust them, I see no problem with it.
Just be sure you hide the bolts,...........even the best kids can become a victim of a tragedy.0 -
You have too many. Sell some! Get a gunsafe and let the kids sleep in a tent in the back yard. They will think it is neat.

Bolts would stay locked up in my cabnet. I also have trigger locks I can use.0 -

my sons have all kept theirs in their rooms,no problems,give them a lock box for the ammo,or keep it yourself until they get older. jake keeps it all right by. never a problem, depends on the kid[;)] 0 -

Sure there is too many. If you don't ever shoot them it is too many. He has guns that he hasn't shot in YEARS! Sell them! Sell a bunch he kinda' likes and get some that he REALLY likes. That's how to upgrade his collection.

I agree it depends on the kid and their age,mine have had their own guns in their room since they were 6 or 7 , but they had no access to ammo at that age,I was not worried about them playing with them but from friends comming over and playing with the guns,I had them on wall racks with a locking bar that came down over the stocks keeping the kids taking them down.after my boys got up into their teen years they had ammo in the top of the closet and the key to the bar,I only have one left at home now,,he will turn 16 next month,,he has his own 24 rifle gunsafe in his room and its almost full. 0 -

Everything I got gets shot! When I go to the range I allways take a large variety of guns with me and I rotate what I take.
I also keep ammo on hand for every gun that I have.
So again I say there is no such thing as too many![:D]0 -
Ok, then get a bunch of gunsafes! What's the problem? I'm not one for removing bolts. I keep them with the gun.

I had kinda planned on this anyway but kept putting it off not knowing how others would take it.
It will sure make things easier in my room.

As long as you have the bolt to the guns I think its fine. I also think it shows your children that their dad trust them. And may benefit in the future as they dont want to loose dads trust. When I was 10yrs old mom let me put my dads semi-auto in my room. I wasnt allowed to take it out of the gun rack unless one of my uncles were there. I never took it down once because I knew better, it would have went home with my uncle until I was old enough to use it. I still to this day dont know where she hid the ammo.I'll have to ask? 0 -
GRD you just need to step up and make a gun room now. That is my favorite room in my house [:D]. One of my old problems was that I had enough room in my safes for all my gun but no good way to keep ammo and acc's locked up. Much of that stuff is worth as much as the guns are. Now that I have a room it is easy to keep it all locked up. The room is reenforced but like with any thing else with enough time someone could get in, but it will stop most normal break ins. The other thing I really like about the gun room is all my guns are out where I can see them and admire them.
BTW from about 10yrs old and up me and my bro always had guns and ammo in our rooms.0 -
Do your kids have friends over?...Ever play in the kids rooms?...Now you might say it will never happen, but I can see one or two kids running home and telling their parents, who might just be anti-gun, that the bedrooms are full of guns....And then the "fun" would start...
A parent has to protect themselves and more importantly the kids....Seems the "good intentions" of some neighbors and friends are always ending up in the news....One can just see the headlines...0 -
I have had a gun in my room since I was 6, and it has always been loaded just as most of the other guns in the house. As my pop would say "an unloaded gun is an expensive club". Of course it started out with a .22, now it's a shotgun. I never had a problem with friends comming over wanting to play with my guns, that was something they knew not to ask and I always set the boundries up front. If your kids are well trained, and I know they are Kevin, then I don't see a reason for then to not have Their own gun in their own room. 0 -

When I was a kid I would always get my dads loaded Colt .45 out of his bedroom and play with it. One day I was messing with it and the bottom magazine plate came off and the spring and all the bullets went flying through the air. I put it back together as best I could and put it back up. I've said all this to say this, unless your guns are in a locked safe, any kid is capable of screwing up. 0 -

If you had "kinda planned on this anyway" why even ask? And who cares what others think. It's your house and your kids. My son is nearly 14. I keep his guns in the safe with mine. I would trust him in a heartbeat with them in his room, but I don't trust the kids that are over here nearly every weekend. But that is just the way I feel. If you think your kids can do OK, and more importantly, their friends can deal with it and not "goof around" with them, then go for it.0 -

Depends on how they were raised and trained. I did it from the age of 11.0 -
i have to go with br on this one, we live in a much different time than just 20 years ago, to many scenarios to even know where to begin
some azz calls dcfs, they show up, see guns in kids room, kids removed emidiatly, what ever the outcome may be it is still trouble you don't need
as br said, other kids, not only is it a safety issue, you don't need someone else's kid running their mouth about your guns, kids tend to exaggerate, it can go in many directions from there
locks, ha even as a kid i laughed at locks, i have a hard time visualizing have to many guns that i cannot find room for them, i made a gun cabinet that is 18"x45"x6'3" that holds 23 scoped rifles,a drawer that holds boxes, ammo, cases, i would have to come up with a different plan even if you disagree with the above, a child's closet is no place to keep a gun even if it is just thinking of the guns condition, humidity etc.0 -

My kids have been taught not to speak of the guns in our home!
Not that I am worried about authorities or anything like that, but I do worry about others thinking that they may have a easy few thousand dollars from strikeing our home!

I would put them on wall racks in your kids rooms and cable lock them to the racks. Give your kid a key and you keep a key and tell the kids never to unlock the rifle from the rack unless he/she gets your permission. Keep their Bolts and ammo in your safe.
I think this kind of resposibility needs to be taught to kids and I wouldn't follow some liberal way of thinking out of fear of someone not likeing my way of raising my kids in my own home.
I would almost guarentee your kids will be better adults from the lessons learned.0 -
i taught my kids the same way, but kids are kids not robots, it's not my kids i am worried about though

yep, sorry to say we live in a messed up world, you never know when one of your kids friends will get on drugs a few years from now, and remember what you have {it happens}, it kills me but i have restricted who comes in my house, i do not have a open door policy, when i was about 20 i had my entire house cleaned out once, and it was definitely somebody i known{another long story}, my wife thought i was being a jerk the first time she heard me lay down the law to my sons friends i show them the house and let them know they are welcome, but i point to my gun room, and say "go in that room for any reason what so ever and you never come back in my house", i know it may sound harsh but i feel it needs to be done for every-ones protection
i have a gun room, i have my large gun cabinet with my least valuable long guns in it,{i call them my decoys}, i have a locked closet with 2 safes in it with my more valuable guns in them, and ammo in the closet, my closet is also rigged to my alarm system, even when the motion detectors are off the door is not, even when the alarm is off when that door is opened the alarm will chime that it was opened
kevin i would build some racks in my own closet, make room by moving other things into the kids closets, you can keep a better eye on your investments, just my .020
