Hobo Spider Bite...I hope not, but (UPDATE)
I think I may have been bitten by a Hobo Spider on my finger. I've had a tender spot on my finger for a couple weeks, but I figured it was just a deep splinter from work. I dug on it a few times with a knife and could not find a splinter...so I figured it was just so deep that I would have to wait until it got infected enough to come to the surface. Well, last night, it swelled up like a big knot...sort of like a blood blister. This evening I took an exacto knife and cut approximately 3/16" into my finger to get to the blood/plasma pocket under the skin and no splinter was to be found. This dead skin is probably about 3/16" thick. I poured some alcohol into it and, boy, it hurt like the dickens. The odd thing about this sore is that it looks like it may have two fang marks in it. Our house has a hobo spider infestation. We've had it sprayed several times, but it needs more treatment. I sure hope this is not a hobo bite...those darn things can kill you.[B)]
UPDATE:
I'm fairly certain that this is a hobo bite. We did some research on the internet last night and I have all the symptoms of a bite. I've had nausea and a head ache all week long...then the blister that popped up. I guess I need to get in to get this checked out. Evidently, it can get into your bloodstream and cause your internal organs to decay. It can also get into your bones and wreak havoc. Tomorrow is Saturday...maybe I'll go to the doc then...

I have been bitten by the brown recluse before, and for me it was not that big of a deal,........this sounds much worse!
A friends wife got a BR bite in the top of her scalp one night though, and it turned into a very nasty situation,.......I guess a lot has to do with your immune system, and how much of an allergic reaction you get. Was also bit by a black widow too,.....that was a bit worse, but also didn't cause anything traumatic.
With these syptoms,.....I would be headin on out to the doc!0 -

I wouldn't wait till Saturday ECC, why take a chance. Even if you have to go to the ER, you should have it checked out.0 -

As a teaching physician and an Arky (brown recluse discovered and described here at UAMS) I can tell you that a Dr can only treat infection and infectious complications after 24 hrs from the bite.
There is nothing known that can treat the necrosis.
ECC, The bites have never killed anyone
I spend 8 months a year in Medecins sans Frontieres in various countries. In Chechnya and Serbia a few years ago I was able to see several of these bites. They are clinically the same as a brown recluse.
Treat the infection, debride the necrotic tissue and in six months repair what is possible.

Well, I think I'm going to wait until Monday. I found a Doc that can see me on Monday for more than half of what the Urgent Care Clinic wants to charge me...so against the Doc's adice, I think I'm going to wait until Monday.

IN the meantime, if it gets worse and you end up in the hospital having ooooohhhhhhhh say surgery on it, isnt that going to cost a lot more than the Urgent care clinic?....

BigTire is correct. Sprays don't work because of their grooming mannerisms and they don't drag their abdomin in the poisin as other bug do. The only way to rid spiders is to use a fog type of insectcide. Several cans depending on your square footage, open all cabinets and closet doors, set them off, and leave for a few hours. Used to be Director of Environmental Services for large nursing homes, am also a certified Safety and Health Specialist. When you have a large population of spiders you also have a large population of other bugs. Gotta get rid of both in the house and the yard. Spiders follow the food. Now for a fun fact; A person swallows an average of 5 spiders per year in their sleep. Got lots more facts on bugs. 0 -

Evidently most poisons that work on other spiders, don't work on hobos...they even say that these poisons will kill spiders that feed on the hobos...so you are shooting yourself in the foot using them. Everything I've read says that you have to use one of a couple commercial grade insecticides.0 -

My son, then aged 46 had the same thing happen when bitten by what he
believes was a brown recluse spider 6 years ago. He is still on S.S.
Disablility since this. He went from a healthy 6 ft. 180 lb guy down
to 115 lbs until three months ago when after more treatment finally is up to 136 lbs and has some hopes of recovery. Within weeks after being bitten he broke out in large blisters and infections. Evidentally this
effected his pancreas as he shortly had pancreatic attacks and destroyed
over half of his pancreas. Then shortly a stroke, and later a heart attack. He survived these but spent over 16 hospital stays during this
period, including 3 trips to the emergency rooms with hospital stays.
He had a very painfull, long experience from this. Also very costly.0 -

Hey Joe...this post covinced me to go in tomorrow. I have an appt for 0900 tomorrow morning, but I was thinking about skipping it b/c the swelling in that finger had gone down some, but I will get in there tomorrow. I pray your son is able to have a complete recovery! Thanks for the info!0
