Hobo Spider Bite...I hope not, but (UPDATE)
I think I may have been bitten by a Hobo Spider on my finger. I've had a tender spot on my finger for a couple weeks, but I figured it was just a deep splinter from work. I dug on it a few times with a knife and could not find a splinter...so I figured it was just so deep that I would have to wait until it got infected enough to come to the surface. Well, last night, it swelled up like a big knot...sort of like a blood blister. This evening I took an exacto knife and cut approximately 3/16" into my finger to get to the blood/plasma pocket under the skin and no splinter was to be found. This dead skin is probably about 3/16" thick. I poured some alcohol into it and, boy, it hurt like the dickens. The odd thing about this sore is that it looks like it may have two fang marks in it. Our house has a hobo spider infestation. We've had it sprayed several times, but it needs more treatment. I sure hope this is not a hobo bite...those darn things can kill you.[B)]
UPDATE:
I'm fairly certain that this is a hobo bite. We did some research on the internet last night and I have all the symptoms of a bite. I've had nausea and a head ache all week long...then the blister that popped up. I guess I need to get in to get this checked out. Evidently, it can get into your bloodstream and cause your internal organs to decay. It can also get into your bones and wreak havoc. Tomorrow is Saturday...maybe I'll go to the doc then...

It's a different beast but about as nasty as a brown recluse in terms of the venom. Like the BR they're shy and the initial bite doesn't hurt much.

I got bite by something a few years ago on my arm when I was sleeping. I didn't pay much attention until it got swollen up to the size of a golf ball. My boss finally sent me home from work and told me not to come back until I got it taken care of. Went to the doctor and she cut it then packed it with gauze and gave me some antibotics. She told me she didn't know what the heck it was that bite me. I'm really curious what it was that bite me though.
ECC if the thing starts to swell I'd head to the doctor because getting mine cut then packed wasn't cool at all.0 -

I just read that in any spider bite, its important that your tetanus immunization is up to date. Hope you feel better, ECC.

The Brown recluse is not as bad as the Hobo. Another misnomer about the hobo's is that they are very shy...THIS IS NOT TRUE! They are very aggressive...as a matter of fact they are also called "the aggressive house spider".

Geez that is scary. ECC and ANYBODY who is concerned about what kind of bugs you might have crawling around/in your house, GET SOME GLUE STRIPS, place them around various locations inside (and outside if you like) and find out what the heck is crawling around.
Those glue strips can also capture some of those nasty bugs before they bite you or a family member. You can buy glue strips at about any hardware/home improvement store.
For your own good, don't think about this. DO IT.0 -

My brother moved into his new home a couple years ago, and with the new constuction and clearing of land they had a lot of black widow spiders. Not sure what we sprayed on em' but it sure worked. It was clear in a clear bottle with a sprayer attatched to it, seemed to take them out plus it was residual so you could spray around doors, seams, and where ever else they might enter. 0 -

When I looked at this thread....I thought it was a reference to you maybe wanting to pick up and board a freight train (bag tied to a stick and unshaven appearance.) Since Spiderman is out and we all know now that toxic bugs can alter a persons gene's!!!!

Spiders are hard to kill with insecticide spray. Unlike most insects they don't use their mouths to groom themselves, so it's hard to get the poison into their systems where it will kill them. 0 -

Hobo spider
The hobo spider is a 0.4 in. to 0.6 in., light-brown spider with a yellowish green tint on its abdomen. Also called the Northwestern brown spider, the hobo spider (Tegenaria agrestis) is common and widespread in Europe and western central Asia.
This spider was probably introduced in a seaport near Seattle in the early 1900s. Since then, it has spread to British Columbia, Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Utah. These spiders build funnel webs in wood, rock, or debris piles.

At the site of the bite, symptoms may include:
* Reddened skin within minutes of the bite followed by a blister that forms within 36 hours.
* Numbness and tingling around the bite.
* An open sore with a breakdown of tissue (necrosis), which develops in 50% of people who have been bitten.
Other symptoms may develop after a bite and include:
* Headache.
* Weakness.
* Drowsiness (very sleepy, hard to wake up, or less alert).
* Visual disturbances.
* Hallucinations.
