    Nope to a residence, i want to ship a sealed spam can of M2 ball.
    UPS was helpful on the phone, i got straight answers from them, the problem is i need to ship from a hub and the nearest hub is 45 miles.
    I receive ammo from the CMP via FedEx so i thought I'd use them but cant even find a Representative that knows the procedure.

    Yoshi,

    Yes, I got you on the hub, I guess that I'm saying is that the driver don't care if it is not really a business and UPS is not going to look it up. I live 18 miles from the hub myself. [:D]

    You can schedule a pick up and then you don't need to take it to a hub...

    As others have indicated it is illegal.
    It is a felony.

    By your post you have shown the world that you are: a liar, dumb, and a felon. Good job.

    There are reasons they restrict transport of flammables you know... many of these packages go on commercial airliners. Remember the Miami Trans Air flight that ditched into the Everglades because of the improperly shipped oxygen generators? You could be responsible for the next crash if you keep it up.

    Yoshi..Pack the ammo in a box. Label the outside with this: "ORMD..Small Arms Ammunition.," in nice large black letters. Take the box to FedX or UPS and pay to send it.

    That's all the law requires. Your FedX dealer might be a butt head and give you trouble, but if he does, he's wrong.

    Oh, you aren't sending howitzer rounds now..right??

    I just thought it had to have the ORMD sticker. I was not aware that it had to be labeled as small arms ammunition.

    The ormd sticker says that it is ammo in smaller letters around the outside.

    Yoshi,

    We go through this every time someone wants to ship ammunition. Here is the official code:

    How to ship ammunition.

    Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Part 173 173.63

    Packaging exceptions (b) Cartridges, small arms, and cartridges power devices.

    (1) Cartridges, small arms and cartridges power devices (which are used to project fastening devices) which have been classed as a Division 1.4S explosive may be reclassed, offered for transportation, and transported as ORM-D material when packaged in accordance with paragraph (b)

    (2) of this section; such transportation is excepted from the requirements of subparts E (Labeling) and F (Placarding) of part 172 of this subchapter.

    Cartridges, small arms, and cartridges power devices that may be shipped as ORM-D material is limited to:

    (i) Ammunition for rifle, pistol, or shotgun;

    (ii) Ammunition with inert projectiles or blank ammunition;

    (iii) Ammunition having no tear gas, incendiary, or detonating explosive projectiles;

    (iv) Ammunition not exceeding 12.7 mm (50 caliber or 0.5 inch) for rifle or pistol, cartridges or 8 gauge for shotshells; and

    (v) Cartridges power devices which are use to project fastening devices. (

    2) Packaging for cartridges, small arms, and cartridges power devices as ORM-D material must be as follows:

    (i) Ammunition must be packed in inside boxes, or in partitions which fit snugly in the outside packaging, or in metal clips;

    (ii) Primers must be protected from accidental initiation;

    (iii) Inside boxes, partitions or metal clips must be packed in securely-closed strong outside packagings;

    (iv) Maximum gross weight is limited to 30 Kg (66 pounds) per package; and

    (v) Cartridges, power devices which are used to project fastening devices and 22 caliber rim-fire cartridges may be packaged loose in strong outside packagings.

    Part 172 (Marking) 172.316 Packagings containing material classed as ORM-D

    (a) Each non-bulk packaging containing a material classed as ORM-D must be marked on at least one side or end with the ORM-D designation immediately following or below the proper shipping name of the material (Cartridges, Small Arms). The ORM designation must be placed within a rectangle that is approximately 6.3 mm (0.25 inches) larger on each side that the designation.

    (b) The marking ORM-D is the certification by the person offering the packaging for transportation that the material is properly described, classed, packaged, marked and labeled (when appropriate) and in proper condition for transportation according to the applicable regulations of this subchapter

    So, basically you need to label the box on the end as ORM-D inside a square box you have drawn, then print #698;Cartridges, Small Arms#698; UPS illustration using #698;Consumer Commodity#698; (change to #698;Cartridges, Small Arms#698;) UPS hazardous/restricted items section @ 1-800-554-9964.

    If you do this frequently, you can buy these labels from a label printing company such as stickers.com. If you do this infrequently, you can make your own stickers and print them out on your computer/printer.

    flyingtorpedo,

    You're welcome.

    I can't take credit for anything except the Copy & Paste of a post from a couple of years ago by member EOD GUY. It has been posted several times and reads easily so that we all can understand what we're supposed to do with packages.

    Best.

    Thank you everyone !
    Nope no howitzer rounds just some Korea era M2 ball in spam can similar to the can the Greek stuff is in.
    I sold off some "collector" ammo to finance a reloader and as much Greek M2 as possible.
    Its a whole lot more fun to shoot ammo than it is to collect it...heh
    thanks again for the help.

    Thanks to WHO(M)EVER posted this information. It's my first sale of ammo, and I had a hella time trying to send it! This made me realize that a sticker is all i need to have on there, piece of cake!

    One caveat: I'm shipping to Alaska....anything special needed there? i hope not!

    I did print out that ORM-D sticker and paste it on there.....but not orm-d air...any difference???

    Thanks!

    Method.... ammo can not legally ship by AIR from a normal private person. UPS GROUND ONLY. Ship by US post office ONLY if you feel lucky.
    If you want I can send you some real "ORM-D small arms ammunition" stickers free,
    send me your address thru one of my auctions. ORM= "other regulated material".....D= type of item {chemical/flammable]....small arms ammunition= "just that" [means to the shipper/handler its some what safe as assembled]. This is why shipping JUST primers has more regs than a equal amount of loaded ammo. DON"T try to save money by using USPO, I sell and ship legally to most buyers for only 10% to 20% more than the illegal way. For about $2.00, I'll stay out of jail. Here is a link to see the right stickers needed... http://cgi.ebay.com/ORM-D-CARTRIDGES-SMALL-ARMS-Sticker-Label-Shipping_W0QQitemZ350225141991QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item518b0b90e7&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65:12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A1205|293%3A1|294%3A50

    Here's the ORM-D label you can buy on-line with most shipping tag companies...

    15i2937.jpg

    You could copy and print it out, then "Tape it" in place with clear tape... [:)]

    Or just write ot out as posted earlier...
