    Reload.

Even that is getting expensive too. Have you priced components lately? Primers are over $20/1000 now. You can not find .308 FMJ and the rest of it has gone way up in price. Shot is over $30/25lbs in most place.

Reloading is still cheeper then buying but it cost more to reload a lot of this ammo then it did to buy it 2yrs ago.

if america allowed ammo imports from china the prices would drop 60% the next day.

    No they would not BD

Commodity prices have skyrocketed because the Indian and Chinese economies are expanding so fast.
China and Indian have been competing to buy up all brass cased surplus ammo just for the metals.

Then there is the war. Many arsenals that sold us their overruns ship them to Iraq (Olympic 9MM and 223).

If the war subsides and it won't anytime soon, prices may drop a little and availability will get better but the falling dollar with the latest bail out stupidity will also hurt the dollar meaning it will take more of them to buy anything anywhere.

When some of us (cough cough) were warning everyone here of this many responded it was just scare tactics to get us to buy more.
    It wasn't
If you stocked up, you are glad.
If you did not you are sad.

I thought I stocked up but wish I had bought 10 times as much to sell to you guys now, LOL

I only have enough for me!!!

my company makes many products in china and i know for a fact that ammo can and IS being made in china for about 8% of what it retails for here. i know this for a fact.
remington has their ammo made in america in an american factory with american workers. the LOWEST paid person in that factory makes $7 something an hour. the lowest paid person in the chinese factory makes 20-30 cents an hour.
if china started making ammo for the american consumer then retail prices in america would drop about 60%.

But then there would be less Americans with jobs to buy that ammo.

Ammo prices are going up because all of the lead is being used in toothpaste and children's toys.

I dont think the increase in the cost of materials has anything to do with the increase in ammo cost or atleast no were near the amount of ammo prices. I think the government and anti gun crowd have a much bigger hand in this than most people know.

Yep, I think Schumer, Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein, McCarthy, Kennedy and Hilary are hiding all the ammo in the basement of the Capital Buildings! As soon as they capture the white House they will sell it back to us at high prices to pay down the national debt and finance national health care![;)]

thats what peole have been saying for 15 years about "outsourcing" and it isnt true. unemployment has stayed between 4-6% . the economic fact is that countries should always allow consumers to decide and shop for the lowest price. it actually CREATES more jobs in america and gives MORE buying power to the american consumer

How does cutting jobs create more jobs? I am not up to speed on this process please fill me in. Are you talking about more low paying jobs to replace the "good" jobs that were lost? I do know how that works. In my home town (about 10k people) we had a large chain store come in many years ago. Yes this store created more local jobs but that is not always a good thing. Many people lost decent paying with local retailers of quality products that could not compete with the cheep prices of the cheep products. Now there are more jobs but they are lower paying so these people have less to spend or have to have more then one working person in the family. Making less money means that many people HAVE to (not by choice) buy cheepers products which costs them more money in the long run.

In a way I can see the psudo more buying power. If you have lower priced items people can buy more with their money = more buying power. The problem with many items that sell for a lower price are actually of lower quality (which is part of the reason they are cheeper) and do not last as long as high quality products. The problem with low quality products is that in the long run you spend more on several low quality products then you do on buying the "expensive" high quality product in the first place. Take lawn mowers you can buy one that costs $800 [:0] which freaks most people out. Or you can go buy the $300 "box" store mower. The reason the "box" store mower is cheeper is based on the quality of parts. Based on average life spans on these units the $800 will run for 20 years but the $300 mower will last about 5. So in 20 years the $800 mower will have cost $800 and the $300 mower will end up costing $1200.

Would you really want the Chinese exporting ammo to the US anyway with their terrible quality control standards? At least bullets already have lead in them. [:p]

you can thank Ben Bernanke and the federal reserve for that.
