Sorry, I'm on a donor kick. Donating blood has kinda got me on my soapbox of donating things. So, who is an organ donor? I decided to when I got my actual drivers license. Simply curious again.

Hopefully this'll solve my curiosity......for now.

I think there would be more organ donors if the government paid your estate for any parts taken. Seriously, the government should give a rebate on the death tax for organ donors. A lot more would sign up.

I'm signed up to donate, but I haven't actually parted with any yet. However, when the time comes, after the useable organs are harvested, my entire body will go to the "Body Farm" for forensic research in Tennessee. That's where they place corpses in various situations to observe and study the decomposition in order to gain insight into determining the time and circumstances of suspicious deaths. The bones, when bared, will be kept there to teach forensic investigators. My soul, by God's grace, will dwell in Heaven forever.

If one seriously wants to be an organ donor, it is a good idea to have that stated in one's will and make sure the next of kin is on board as well as have it indicated on the DL.

I would be curious to hear anyone who is qualified's rationale for NOT being an organ donor.

Can't take them with you. God gives you everything you need in Heaven. The devil doesn't care in Hell. So I am an organ donor. May as well try to help someone out when I don't need them anymore. Besides maybe I'll be able to take over a new body and start the Zombie Apocalypse. MWAHAHHAHAAHHAHHHA!!

Yup. I donate blood whenever the bloodmobile goes through (except for when I got a tattoo), and have the donor provision on my license...on top of that, I've spoken to my family about my wishes (which is no problem, as they are also donors).

My only piece of advice to anyone who gets a piece of me...you may want to avoid the liver...it's seen some HEAVY use...[:D]

Yep, and keep in mind you need to tell spouse so if something happens to you, your will is known
the "organ donor" on liscense is not enough

Yep, in fact everyone in my family with a driver's license has it so indicated for all to see and yes, we are all aware of each other's wishes.

There may not be much left worth having when I'm done with this body but in the end they can use whatever still works.

I am, but I agree with Captplaid! Why shouldn't my wife or kids benefit financially from the sale of my pre-owned but like new condition organs? Everyone else in the organ donor food chain is getting paid: doctors, hospitals. Why not the one with the merchandise? This is America, right? Hmmm.

Just say I was in a life threatening car accident, and I was a donor. I think that if a doctor had a choice to make several million dollars for doing a transplant or make a few thousand by saving my life, I probably wouldn't make it. Everything revolves around money. It's sad but true.

Here we go.. Ethics whether to sell your body.. Poor couldn't afford a liver, kidney blah blah blah... heck I might want to do one of those frozen thingy's and wake up in 2112 and listen to some Rush... But hey, its ok for the Dr.s to charge for transplants...
