I am listed as a body parts donor, but being 47 now, by the time they need it from me on deaths bed, the parts are going to be well used and too frayed for use. [xx(]

I am. I was told by my atty. when doing my living will that the organ donor portion of my license if useless. He said that if any of my family was to dispute it then it would be a no go since it is not considered a "legally binding document"

+ 1 gagirl.........a good friend died from an aneuryism (sp) a few years back. He was 50 and no stranger to abusing his body, yet organs were harvested and, hopefully, still being put to good use. The fact that some of his body parts were able to prolong someone else's life was comforting to friends and family.

Putting a monetary value on organs could lead to abuse, but, I suppose there are folks who think its ok to pay to get bumped on the list for a transplant.

i dont think its appropriate to ask/demand that someone justofy their reason for not participating in this program. its a personal choice and not anyones business why.

i am listed as a donor but personally see it as somewhat futile in my case. i smoke like a fiend, thereby causeing both heart and lung problems. im damn near blind but you want my sight, have at it. i have in the past engaged in prohibited substances, the kind that can have long term affects and also drink more than my share whenever possible so there goes my liver. take whatever still works when i kick.

I'm a drinker and that's it. My liver is fine as of now. I am an organ and tissue donor. I see it as the last gift I have left to give. Maybe the most important gift I can give as well.

If you don't want to donate after death for personal reasons, please be sure to have a binding legal document prohibiting you from being a recipient in case you needed something to prolong your life.

    Yep.

Hey Huntingnerd, I kinda think it is good to praise and encourage bright young folks, and help them along whenever possbible. Being on a "donor kick" is certainly giving back to your community and is truly admirable, particularly in a young fella, since so many adolescents are pretty consumed with themsleves. Again in the interest of encouaging you, how about donating a new S&W M&P in .40 to me?[^][}:)][:p]

    Organ donor: yep.

I'm not sure I'd be ready to donate my body for science, either for an anatomy class or for a decomposition study. But I may change my mind on that.

I am an organ donor, not that anyone would want anything I had after I'm finished with it.
If not, anatomy class, "Body Farm", if it can help someone learn something that might help someone else, then why not?
I'll be dead, what do I care?

I'm a donor. They can have any and all in the hopes it does some good to some one, once I'm gone. Just please make sure I'm gone first

    Look what you started 33!

Actually some religions forbid removing organs. That aside, it's a personal decission. As for myself, I don't think there is much left of great value.

I don't see the need for law abiding citizens to be organ donors. I have the solution for this problem, any person on "death row" becomes an instant organ donor. Problem solved.

Sorry, I'm on a donor kick. Donating blood has kinda got me on my soapbox of donating things. So, who is an organ donor? I decided to when I got my actual drivers license. Simply curious again.

Hopefully this'll solve my curiosity......for now.

I became a donor after I was the recipient of one.

    Artist/Band: Prine John
Lyrics for Song: Please Don't Bury Me
Lyrics for Album: Great Days: The John Prine Anthology

    Woke up this morning
    Put on my slippers
Walked in the kitchen and died
    And oh what a feeling!
    When my soul
    Went thru the ceiling
And on up into heaven I did ride
When I got there they did say
    John, it happened this way
    You slipped upon the floor
    And hit your head
    And all the angels say
    Just before you passed away
These were the very last words
    That you said:

    Chorus:
    Please don't bury me
Down in that cold cold ground
No, I'd druther have "em" cut me up
    And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both of my ears
If they don't mind the size

    Give my stomach to Milwaukee
If they run out of beer
Put my socks in a cedar box
Just get "em" out of here
Venus de Milo can have my arms
Look out! I've got your nose
Sell my heart to the junkman
And give my love to Rose

    Repeat Chorus

Give my feet to the footloose
    Careless, fancy free
Give my knees to the needy
Don't pull that stuff on me
Hand me down my walking cane
    It's a sin to tell a lie
Send my mouth way down south
    And kiss my ass goodbye

    Repeat Chorus

Identicial twins get in a car wreck and both are organ donors. They are a perfect match for each other. One has a ruined liver. The other has both kidneys ruined. Which one gets a good organ? I have wondered if being a organ donor has infleuenced doctors to give up on a organ donor patient so they could help another (richer, related, connected ect) patient.

I'll bet that if you or a loved one needed an organ you wouldn't be turning it down. The above is about the only reason I can see not to donate. And, you are correct, it is not my business what you do, nor does anybody care what you or I, for that matter, have given away. We're talking about organ donations. Now, go ahead and get bent out of shape and say something to have this thread poofed, which no doubt you will. Hard to imagine why this topic would make somebody so angry.

I am if there's anything left that's usable. I tried to sell a kidney my last year in college. I was told it was unethical to sell an organ, but I could donate if I wanted to.

It amazes me how some get in others business. No logic. And to draw a conclusion I got angry is another non logical decision you have made.

Only in America is it not legal. Take a trip to the Philippines or Israel. I wouldn;t recommend Egypt. Muslims, religion of peace, and all that. I just wouldn't trust them while I was knocked out. Might take my head while I'm on the table.

I remember seeing a picture of a bunch of peasants in the Philippines where every person had a scar on the side of there abnoman (sp) from selling a kidney.
