Thats why we carry. Good to hear that the pizza guy is OK. It could have turned out quite differently.

They will fire the poor driver for defending himself with a evil gun.

you are absolutely right bpost. We had a dominos driver here in our town pull his CCW when he was jumped by two local bad boys. Shot and wounded both IIRC. Ruled justifiable shooting by the local DA.

Dominos fired him immediately and made it clear in the paper and television that they DO NOT ALLOW their drivers to carry while on duty regardless of the fact the state says the are licensed to do so. They have gone so far as to state they will prosecute a driver for carrying stating that the drivers personal vehicle is company property while the driver is on the clock (if that is the case, then they better be paying the insurance and gas cost as well).

The crooks have increased the number of robberies knowing the drivers are unarmed.

I'll wager the reason he had the ccw through another state was because it cost too much to get one here in Missouri. It was a victory for us to be able to have it, now we need to get the price down to where everyone can afford one. Glad the driver was ok.

That is great that they fired him.

It would be a shame that he have to risk his life a second time so that crappy company can make a few bucks while he takes all the risks.

I bet Mike Ilitch(sp?) or whoever owns Dominoes now has the protection of a gun while they are cruising around the rough neighborhoods.

My nephew was living with us for a while and was looking for a job. One of the places he applied was a piazza delivery. They called one day and I got the phone, they thought they were talking to him, the manager of the place. Basically they were going to pay minimum wage, no gas, no mileage allowance, have to report tips, they weren't going to pay for insurance, oh yes, and no firearms under any circumstances. Basically told him that it is now clear to me why they have such a hard time getting and keeping drivers and not only don't call here for help but we weren't going to buy any piazza from him if that's how they treat their help. It wasn't Domino's but they all appear to be about the same in most respects.

I'm from MO, and IMHO whether it costs 5.00 or 1000.00, why put yourself on another list by jumping thru their hoops to get a Concealed Carry. We have already been given the right thru the 2nd Amendment.

Paying for it turns it from a right to a privelege.

I agree we already have that right but it has been erroded so badly over the years that trying to use that argument as a defense after shooting a would be robber would only get you arrested.

Better to jump through those hoops and pay whatever to stay alive and out of jail.

I agree with you in theory however try explaining that to me when you get arrested for carrying concealed without a permit. Try telling a St. Louis cop you don't need that ccw permit because of the second amendment, then show him your hideout gun. Be sure to let me know what he does. [;)]

Now if we could get 100+ people that would carry without a permit with a lot of time and money to follow this argument up to the supreme court, perhaps we'd have something.

how many of you carry without a permit?

Many of us old Dominoids were "let go" for carrying, even when followed back to the store, by a car load of nogooddoers". Happens then you find a job where they give a damn about the employee. I was glad of the boss I had at the time, because he knew being tried as opposed to being carried was important.

one of the reasons i keep my job rather than try to go somewhere i might even make a bit more...
boss has no problem with carry on the job, calls me to join him on cash transfers.
he also signs the renewal forms for me

You are both right....and both wrong. If you get arrested and convicted for carrying without that "privilege" of a permit, then you both will be "convicted criminals". This means that both of you will not be much help in convincing the non-gun owning public that the 2A actually should be our "permit" for carrying. IOW, it would be difficult during a debate or when being quoted by the newspaper or when trying to convince our representatives or law enforcement people that the 2A is our right to carry, it would be difficult to have to say "Well, our two convicted criminal friends, Matwor and JWolf, have a good argument as to why the 2A is all we need for the right to carry.

In short, I agree with you both. But once you do something, even if you should have the right to do that something, and you get a criminal record for it, it usuallly takes you out of the fight in regards to advocating for that right.

Washington was in a war to save his country. If and when we are at war, we will have more choices of actions we will want to take..

Kinda like if the speed limit on your street is way too low and all the neighbors decide to protest by driving the speed that a reasonable person would drive. And all the neighbors get a lot of speeding tickets, lose their license and insurance, etc. And then they appear on the 10:00 news under the heading "all these traffic offenders want a lower speed limit.". How much public support would they get?

Like it or not, everyone needs public support.

Yeah. And let that poor, low paid driver cause an accident and when the lawsuits start coming, the sleazy pizza company will then claim that "it was not their car".

    Shades of Richard Davis...

It's well known that low-lifes will often call for a pizza solely because it's a great way to have a robbery vic delivered to whatever address you want. It's a lot easier than robbing cab drivers or whatever, and I don't think I'd take that job if I could carry a sawed-off shotgun in a "magic pizza".

Then, when it gets to the point that the drivers refuse to go into certain 'hoods, "civil libertarians" accuse the company of racism!

If any kind of delivery company let it out that they would not deliver in certain high crime neighborhoods I'm sure that Jackson and Sharpton and the NAACP would stage mass protests (probably using some of the same people who will later rob the pizza delivery driver) and claim racism and want something given to them for the "insult" against their race.

    But that's just me.

I wasn't speculating, it's already happened, and I believe Domino's was the chain involved. I don't recall if it started with the drivers refusing or if the company just got tired of trying to find new suicidal employees, but the angle they came up with was to deny delivery to certain zip codes where the most attacks/robberies occurred. Of course, somebody got indignant, noticed the racial make-up of said zip codes, and claimed Domino's was refusing to provide service to people based on race.

Predictably, the shiite hit the fan.

We had a strung out employee threaten management last year, our owner "told" us to carry. I'd hate to do that kid's job. On his wages I'm surprised he had $ to spend on a piece.

i don't know what this is about the under pay issue, around here they make 20 bucks an hour, sure they pay for the gas, and regular min insurance works so they have that anyway, and they only get taxed on min wage, they still walk with 15 bucks an hour after everything including vehicle maintenance

In the midwest in the Late 80's they made 5.35 an hour plus tips. Not enought to hammer a car like that, nor pay bills with. Doggone sure not worth being robbed and shot over. These guys were finding quarters on Fort that were being Vacated, calling in the address and trying to intercept the delivery folk as they showed up. We were cautious, but not rabbits for the feast. They followed me all the way back down to JC, which was no small task and tried to disembark in the parking lot. That is how I got fired, boss would have never "known" otherwise.
