Tell me something about your Moisin Nagant

I found one for $99 in a shop. A Yugo M-44 I believe.
Decent wood, but they were out of ammo.
I hear they kick pretty good.
Ammo seems to be cheap but getting hard to find.

Plus - Minus?

Accuracy?
Stock upgrades available?

    Never got one for myself, but got them for the new young shooters in the family. Good plinkers! My 11 year old nephew loves his and it's a good shooter.

    I bought one last Sat. at a show. It is new/never issued. The dealer I got it from also sells them on here.
    I found a site with a downloadable manual.

    I bought mine at a gunshow years ago for about $80.00. Mine is a well used 31. It is a blast. Like BT3 said cheap to shoot. Mine is fairly accurate and no kick at all. Its no wonder the Russians drove the nazi's all the way back to Berlin. Cheap to produce, I had mine so hot at a shooting day that the bolt seized in the action. Let it cool down and right back to zero, still shoots good. And I have put hundreds and hundreds of rounds thru it.

    +1 to everything said above, something to consider though if you have long arms like me, the LOP is a tad small on these rifles. I put a slip on recoil pad on mine to add about an inch or so, and now it fits perfectly! They are a blast, get one, you won't regret it.

    Fun as hell. The hype over the recoil is much ado about nothing IMO. It recoils less severely than commerical .30-06s, for instance, in my experience. Ammo is still available at reasonable prices. Clean it up good and you'll get a lifetime of use out of it if it was in good condition to begin with. watch out for the sticky bolt syndrome though.

    Forgot to mention mine is a model 38. It is the carbine without the bayonet. That means I can't stab you if I run dry. Guess my enemies will just get bludgeoned to death.[}:)]

    I couldn't wait to get an M38. Found a nice one, shiny bore, cleaning rod, nice wood at a gun show for $60. Shot one half a box of ammo and put it in the cabinet, and there it stays. Kicks harder than my 7.5 pound .30-06 Mauser sporter. When I got it I found that some vodka soaked Russian armourer had replaced the extractor and never fitted it. Took two men and a baseball bat to get the bolt closed on a loaded chamber. I fitted that and everything worked fine except the vicious recoil. Probably a reliable rifle, and your results may vary. Hope so.

    I personally wouldn't "fancy" it up. If it was good enough to kick the Germans back to where they came from during WWII, it should be left as is. I have an M-44 and a 91/30, both Tula arsenaled. Extremely fun and reliable.

    Got a 91/30 and a M38- both arsenal rebuilds. Wholesalers still have ammo dirt cheap. For $200, buy a rifle and a lifetime supply of ammo. Crude, ugly, accurate, indestructible. (kinda like me) The 38 and 44's a great for reloaders- short, stiff barrel. If the recoil is stiff (for you), add a pad. surplusrifle.com has good info, including how to improve the trigger.

    I have a M44 and M38. I got the M44 on trade, didn't think much of it until I shot it. Liked it enough to buy a M38. Recoil is about what all .30 cal. bolts produce. Large fireball in low light.[8D] I prefer the M38, it's lighter without a bayonet, thus faster handling. I'll get a long rifle version one of these days.

    Got a 91/30, 2 M38's, and a M44; the 38's are my favorite.

    You can't go wrong with one.

    Advance Technology makes a black synthetic stock that really helps recoil-around 60 bucks-available from CheaperThanDirt.com and
    a couple of more places in The Shotgun News and the Gun Digest. Fits
    all the models/barrel lengths.
    I've had three of them-1st one when I was 15-the Coast-to-Coast hardware store had several in a barrel for around 15 bucks for choice so I and another farm kid each bought one. We'd take these empty 5 gal. oil cans that were like a big cube and fill them with water and set 'em on a fence post. Then we'd saw the point offa the bullets and shoot! Really turned those cans inside out. We'd shoot into this old abandoned and falling down house to see if it's come out the other side and it often did. We'd shoot into a bank and dig up the bullet to be amateur ballisticians!!!
    Still have one now and have made up a 3 ring binder chock full of 30 years worth of magazine articles about the gun, ammunition.

    M44 1947 Soviet Tula...accurate, does kick, but so does my 03A3 and K98k.

    Cool little rifle..a whopping $69 a few years back in good condition

    It is in the same ballistic range as the 30-06 and .308.
    So yes, it will kill deer and elk.

    Mine was made by New England Westinghouse in 1916. Got Finnish stampings on it. Bore is rough but it shoots real good.
