US made cutlery
Looking for some decent knives, just kitchen knives. So far I've been looking at LampsonSharp, is there anyone else that makes good forged cutlery? Preferably made here, in the US.

Ontario Knife has been manufacturing "Old Hickory" kitchen knives for over 100 years - in fact since 1889. i saw a special on tv about cutco knives were made,how they were selected to be butter knives depending on the grade of steel, or made into Good sharp kitchen knives. they explained and showed each was hand sharpened. very empressive. i think it was the history channel with a documentry about how kitchen knives were made. it wasn't a commercial 0 -
Talk to pabooger about cutco. He works for them. I think the show you are referring to rsr1950, was the one that is hosted by the mail man from Cheers. Can't call his name right now. "Made in America" I think is the name of his show. I do know he did one on Cutco. Very interesting! Not to piss pa off, but personally, I like Old Hickory. [:D] 0 -

An old country store here use to sale Old Hickory knives. The ole guy had them on a shelf below the horse halters..[:)]

Yeah, Cutco is very pricey. I asked my wife what kinda knives she wanted to register for hoping to get some for our wedding. Her parents have Cutco and they are excellent, but she told me how much they were, so I knew we wouldn't be receiving them. Old Hickory is cheaper, but no less quality. 0 -
I have an Old Hickory knife I found in a car when, as a kid, I worked for a car dealer cleaning cars. Everything the above posters say is true. It takes a razor edge and touches up easily. Really old. The rivets are almost a half inch across and are COPPER. 0 -
Cutco, hands down. Used to sell them, and still own them, sharp as day 1. ANY good set of knives with table knives will set you back almost $1000. Cutco is less and has a NO BS warranty,..FOR LIFE.

Cutco is one of the last US made kitchen knives company. Chicago Cutlery was popular some time ago. But now and days its a germand and japanes market for kitchen knives. You may want too read cutcos warrenty in regards to sharpening. from what i am told by cutco rep's. it voids your warrenty if you get your knives sharpened by anyone other than cutco. (I work in a knife specility retail shop) but thats what i am told and that may be wrong. hope this helps. 0 -

Old Hickory is made just down the road from Cutco, Old hickory is junk compared to Cutco!!! You can't even compare the two!!!

The Pampered Chef Knives seem to be very well made. My wife has a set of them. You might also check out the Cold Steel Kitchen knives. 0 -
Old Hickory is a cheap inexpensive line of Cutlery, plain and simple!!! If you want low Quality, inexpensive knives then by all means buy em!!!
If you want high Quality,expensive knives that are guaranteed forever then buy Cutco, Hey it's your $$$$
You asked, and I answered, as well as many others!!! A good testimony is to ask the people who own them!!! Many who do , responded. Thats all I can tell ya.
I really don't know anything about Lampson Sharp knives, so I can't give an honest opinion. Perhaps someone else knows something about them.
Old Hickory are a cheap knife, cheaply made, they will hold an edge, and they will rust. Many of our employees used to work for Ontario Knife.
Ontario Knife also makes the Air Force Survival knives!
Kabar is owned by Cutco, but not all Kabar is made here in the States, most of the Kabar fighting knives, Usmc and such are made in Olean.
Oh and if I didn't work at Cutco I couldn't afford them either, they are expensive!!![:I]0 -
My mother has been using a set of Old Hickory knives since the 1940's. They still hold an edge and look almost new despite daily use for over 50 years. That is not bad for a set of "cheap inexpensive" knives.
My kitchen knives are Kershaw, but I like Cold Steel too.0 -

Q: Why does Cold Steel no longer make Carbon V knives?
We have been making knives in the USA out of our exclusive Carbon V steel since 1987. For the past two years, we have done all in our power to support the factory making Carbon V knives for us, but they have continued a downward spiral and are now in a very severe business and financial crisis and have lost almost their entire workforce. We will, however, continue to make just about every formerly Carbon V steel knife in either VG-1 San Mai Laminated Stainless steel, 4116 Krupp Stainless Steel or free forged 1050 high Carbon steel.

Some yes!!! Unfortunatly most of the steel companies in the US have gone under!!!
Although we are one of the largest Cutlerys in the World the amount of steel we buy is very minute, compared to other types of manufacturing.
Most of our steel comes in rolls and sheets and our knives are blanked out on automatic punch presses.
Getting good quality steel Usa made steel is getting harder and harder to get.
