We are supposed to get one in the next year. There is a Jug at the Tillamook Air Museum - about 1.5 hours away.

Sweet! Can you get me in to set in the Corsair?[:p] The Corsair is the best fighter plane of all time! My wife took me to the Tillamook mueseum a few years ago and it was really fun. I will drop you an email with plenty of advance notice.

There's a guy at the airport where I work and he restores vintage fighters. He's restored a P-47D, 2 F4U Corsairs, 2 P-51D's. I think he's currently working on either a Wildcat or Hellcat. Love to watch them fly. 0 -

They don't let anyone sit in most of the planes - not even the volunteers.
You can get into the B-17 and the H-1, and I think one other. There is a slim possibility that if I could spin a good enough, maybe tragic, yarn, that I could get you into the seat of it very early in the morning or after closing in the evening. I wouldn't want to even ask until you're here.
They let people into the H-1, but to get onto the flight deck they charge $50 a head - no exceptions. You may be able to guess that we don't have a helluva lot of people popping for that.
I'm astounded by the number of people who come see the planes, and the distances they travel to get here.
I love being around those old birds !

Where is this museum located? I've always wanted to see the Goose. Come to think about it, I believe my pick-up has more flight time than the Goose. 0 -
If those old planes could talk! That must be alot of fun to be around those fantastic pieces of history. It may be a month or two but I just mentioned it to my wife and she is almost as excited as me! I will check out the website tonight. Thanks. 0 -
It's on Orygun Highway 18, half way between Newberg and Lincoln City, which is on the Pacific Ocean Coast. That would put it about 30 miles Northwest of Salem and 45 miles Southwest of Portland, in Yamhill County - the wine tasting county.

AND...if you take the highway 18 to the coast, there is a little Cafe there that is the best in the world!!
OTIS CAFE - stop in there and order the Dutch Potatoes (get a half order for the two of you) and sit a spell.
Order a loaf of Blackstrap Molasses Bread to take home - slice it and freeze it. Have one or two a Morning, with some of the blackberry jam (you bought at the same time) and some butter.
Really, everything they sell there is great, sunup to sundown, but their breakfasts are OUTSTANDING!!!
ONLY if you are lucky will you find a seat waiting - usually you have to wait half an hour to get a seat.
I Love old warplanes, but I have not yet stopped at McMinnville.
I saw the Spruce Goose when it was on display in Long Beach, California. I worked on the next dock over for years, and saw it when they took it away.
I am told that McMinnville was a Cold War covert ops base - Doug, Is it true?
I will take you up on the offer for a visit. We take trips to Lincoln City now and then for Kite Festivals, and usually go right through there. Are Mondays better for you, or Fridays?0 -

I feel complimented: you stole my "favorite quote" - well, I didn't ACTUALLY own it.
The rumors claim that the outfit that owns the Spruce Goose _ Del Smith's Evergreen Aviation - supports CIA & Delta operations, worldwide. It seems to be a widespread, but not open, secret. Del owns many "special purpose" aircraft that are, unfortunately not viewable to the public.
Many interesting stories surround the Spruce Goose, Howard Hughes, and Del Smith. The bulk of them are unverifiable, and it is said that employees that spread them get very stern warnings.
The coffee shop in Otis is one of the top ten in the country.

Very cool plane. One like it starred in a movie about a dead pilot forest fire waterbomber, trying to communicate with his live lady. Kinda like "Ghost", but different.

Awesome pics! The movie you refer to is 'Always', a Steven Spielbrg movie with Richard Dryfuss, John Goodman and Holly Hunter. The first scene in it is priceless. If you haven't seen it, rent it.
One version of the Invader had 8 M-2s in the nose. It could turn and dogfight with its attackers after dropping its load. I read that it could out turn an ME-110. Saw one at the Reno air races mixing it up with standard P-51s, Corsairs, Bearcats etc. and he wasn't last.0
