My favorite Plane of all times. It was the first plane I ever saw on the ground. Back in the 50's there was a row of them sitting about about a hundred feet from the road at WPAFB in Dayton Ohio.... A few years later I built one as my 1st Balsa project ... An art teacher at my school let us build them as one of our projects.0 -
I was once under a whole bunch of B-36s taking off from Wright-Pat.
They shook the earth from about 200 feet overhead.

One version of the Invader had 8 M-2s in the nose. It could turn and dogfight with its attackers after dropping its load. I read that it could out turn an ME-110. Saw one at the Reno air races mixing it up with standard P-51s, Corsairs, Bearcats etc. and he wasn't last.
The Discovery Channel series 'Wings' did a segment on these, and many served through most of Vietnam, like the A-1 Skyraider. The last one was retired from active duty in 1972. Douglas done good.0
