I believe that some states the age for statutory rape is 16.

Just wanting some thoughts on this:

I recently heard a story about a man who fell in love with an underage girl, he is 30 and she is 17...

The girl feels the same way about him...

The girl's parents do not object to the relationship...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even if the parents concent, this would still be statatory rape, correct?

Depends on the state law and if they are even having sex. Also, if he marries her then the statutory rape laws dont apply.
Most states in America (35) have their age of consent at 16.

In Georgia, the age of consent is 16. Up until ten years ago, the age of consent was only 14.
Lets you know that the Ga legislature is a bunch of horny dogs who were banging 15 year olds.

It would be hard to get a conviction with a 17 year old.

Frankly while both were the same age. My brother and his wife were 17 when they started doing the wild thing, that was 35 years ago and to this day I consider her a primo addition to the family... so I have to say I can freaking care less...Hell I was 30 years old myself before I was the kind of guy that I'd want my daughter to date!!!

And this is really the bottom line ain't it. If the family is for it well he is either a great guy or they are idiots... I just can't see the big picture here!!! I don't know the participants!!!

In a nutshell,......if that state says 18, then if the parents, or the girl, get a bug up their rear about anything, they can press charges for statutory rape, assuming they are having sex![:D]

I'll throw one last kink into this situation....

In order keep minimize the risk of the parents having second thoughts the man lobbied for and received legal guardianship of the child

So now we a 30 year old man obtaining legal guardianship of a minor so he can bone her with impunity......He dumped her shortly thereafter, by the way

Some states have pretty screwy laws when it comes to 17 year olds, including Texas. Here a 17 year old isn't yet emancipated, meaning they're still legally under control of their parents and doesn't have all rights of an adult, but they're old enough to consent to sex with a 30 year old. Statutory rape involves 16 and under.

What disturbs me about this story is the fact that a 30 year old grown azz man prefers the company of a 17 year old girl. What's up with this guy that he's unable to maintain relations with a woman of his own age and presumed maturity level? There's a huge gulf between the worlds of these two.

It's not as if this girl magically has the maturity level of someone in their 30's.

He may not be violating any laws, but this guy has issues.

Even if your state law says its ok though you should still have some moral ground to not be with a 17 year old when your 30. When my daughter hits 17 I feel sorry for some 30 year old s.o.b if he shows up at my house to get her. He is going to be met at the door by one mad mofo I can tell you that.

Sounds like a lot of jealousy to me.

I dated a 20 y/o when I was 35. She was more mature than my first wife. Being homeschooled had a lot to do with it, instead of the trash my first wife is.

If it doesnt affect you, and the person is not in a predatory relationship, I fail to see how so many of you can think that it's any of your damn business.

You don't have an issue with a 30 year old obtaining legal guardian status of a 17 year old, for the pupose of sex?
Hell,......I have dated much younger females, but there is something not right there!
Something not right with her parents either, as they would have had to allow it.
Maybe the guy had big bucks, and was paying some bills for the scumbag parents, and renting the daughter out as basically a prostitute.

D.What I'm referring to isn't just the number of years difference in ages. There's also a huge difference between a 17 year old girl and a 20 year old young woman.

IMHO, a 35 year old man having an actual relationship with a 20 year old is still weird. Their worlds should be completely different.

I think age is very overated and has little meaning. Age is rarely an indicator of character or value of a person.
It bothers me that so many people will focus on the older person and never for once consider that the younger person JUST MIGHT be a wonderful amazing person.
In any event, I think its best for people to mind their own business.

...Of course the guy has "issues", as do the girls parents. The 30 year old and the girls dad need to be taken to the woodshed and have their azz beat.

...Though in some states I guess it is "legal", but morally it is wrong. WTH does a 30 year old have in common with a 17 year old?
    Paris Hilton gossip, American Idol??

It's not as if the girl was 30 and he was 50, there, all concerned would susposedly be adults.

Their being together isn't an indication of her being an "amazing" person. This is just the age old button that's pushed by pathetic older guys trying to pick up teenage girls.

She's no doubt flattered that a guy in his 30's finds her attractive and has picked her to date. She lacks the maturity and perspective to understand this is actually indicative of what a total loser he actually is.

Right now she sees all this as really cool. When she's 30 and sees one of her peers dating a junior in high school she'll probably want to vomit.

I was a very mature 17 year old young woman. Guys my age were not mature enough for me. However, a 30 year old guy??? While I definitely thought about it, let me tell you, the appeal wasn't that he "was an amazing person". At 18 I was ...hmm, hmmmm ...very close to stepping into a relationship with a 45 year old. Let me tell you, as intelligent and mature as I was, I quickly realized this just wasn't right. There was something wrong with this picture. Not on my side but on the guys side. These parents should be jailed and the guy should be jailed if he's having sex with the underaged girl. If they weren't having sex the parents and guy should at least be dope slapped.

It's illegal in Wisconsin, even with parental consent. Legally, anyone 17 or younger cannot give consent for sex with anyone of any age group.

    how about this one?

she was 11 when her father died, and his friend, at age 39, became her legal guardian. when she turned 21 and he was 49 years of age, they married. they had 5 children.
