What is the Best Hangun for a Lady?
I know there has been a few of these threads lately but I would like fresh Ideas.
I am leaning towards a Glock or Beretta.
What revolvers should I look at?

I still think the little Beretta models are huge....
I got Larry a Mustang. He had been carrying a Beretta tomcat. I thought I would try out his little gun. I HATED it. I carry my Springfield Micro compact 45 in the front pocket of my jeans when I am at the store. Being so FAT....it makes the Beretta just as cumbersome as my 1911. Take an APPLE and put it in your pocket.....it feels like that.
They do have a plus. The tip up barrel is a handy feature for people who cannot pull the slide back. I like the safety on them better than the Kel Tec that seems to have the market covered these days. There are a few small automatics that I like for ladies....only because they are dependable and you don't have to spend a FORTUNE on them. Why buy a $500 gun for someone who just IS NOT going to shoot it?
The goal is different when you think about it.
If she thinks it is an ugly brick......she won't carry it
If she can't work it........it may as well be a fish
If its cheap as mess.....chances are an expert could have problems
If you over-spend........its wasting good money and just silly
If you get a super lightweight....if she does ever shoot it OWWW
In the end you are looking for something that is dependable, small....but not hard on the shooter, easy to work, cute as all-get-out, in a calibur that will be enough but not horrible on the shooter, its GOING to be a 380...you can just bet on that.
The Bersa is a good SLIM size. It has a de-cock....when you show her that you can pull the slide back to put one in the chamber....and then let the hammer down....it is "the thing" that sells these to women. The fact that the safety makes the trigger a wiggly nothing to worry over part of the gun is also a big hit with the women. The fact that you can see the hammer...the safety is obviously turning it into a "safe" item...the size is just right....it is what the women just "go for." The only thing that would make it any easier to sell to the ladies would be if it had gold trim and came in colors. Plus, the Bersa has the horrid "internal lock" that (I hate to say) most women love to see.0 -

Try getting that thin, hard to move, moves the wrong way, safety off in a hurry. Of course, they could carry it with the safety off, but then why buy the Bersa in the first place. Plus, the one I had would not feed hollowpoints reliably. Buy a used Sig P230 or P232.0 -

I bought my wife a Stainless Tomcat 2 years ago. (Even swapped out the grips for rosewood as someone else suggested.) It's a good gun for a lady.
That being said, it's a hard gun to be accurate with if one is not an already decent shooter. The extremely short sight radius plus a fairly lousy trigger makes for some bad shooting. My wife can hit a silhouette target at 7 yards, but that's about it.
I carry the Tomcat sometimes when I want something smaller than my XD.0 -
My Wife just loves her S&W 640 - stainless, "hammerless" no snag, heavy gun, with .38 for practice and play, she is a good shot!
with .357s for defense, she is happy. The gun is about as simple as it can be, with a trigger pull that avoids "accidental discharge", fits her hand pretty well, and looks like a gun, not a toy.

Depends how how big of a lady your hunting. Now I would think a 545 Casual would be good for a Rosie O'Donnel type.[:D]

I'm not sure that the .454 would be ample enough to drop a Rosie. Not enough penetration to get through all that blubber. I would go with either a Howitzer or an AIM Sidewinder missile for Rosie hunting, and even these might require a follow up shot. 0 -

Come on guys, you know the AT4 and Mk 19 are crew served. You could probably get by with the AT4 by yourself, but I don't know anybody who can carry and employ a Mk 19 by him/herself. So maybe just mount a HMMWV underneath it and get a driver, and you're good.0 -

Crew serve weapons would be no problem at all. All you have to do is advertise your going Rosie hunting and folks will come out of the wood work to serve on your crew![;)]

Come on guys, you know the AT4 and Mk 19 are crew served. You could probably get by with the AT4 by yourself, but I don't know anybody who can carry and employ a Mk 19 by him/herself. So maybe just mount a HMMWV underneath it and get a driver, and you're good.
First off, the AT4 is not, I say again NOT, a crew served weapon. It's a one-man portable/deployable, single-use anti-armor rocket.
Secondly, yes the Mk 19 is a crew served weapon, but one person can carry the weapon if there are at least 2 (preferably 3 or 4) other people to carry the tripod and ammo. It's probably one of the most effective infantry weapons currently deployed by the US military.
I wish they'd mount them on UH-60s....talk about "death from above."0 -
a little late but...
My first handgun was the Taurus Millenium Pro. I'd go with that or an HK. I think Glock's have a much tighter slide. I tested every gun in the store that day and picked the taurus for ease and size. Revolver's are not even an option in my eyes because pulling the trigger on one hurts my little fingers. Of corse, I'm a small chick so if your lady is taller and stronger then why not just take her with you so she can handle as many as she'd like?!?

All very good points. Make sure she knows how to clear a malfunction in a semi auto and can work the slide and all the little levers and buttons. If she can't do all of it to your satisfaction, think again about semi auto. Revolver - pull the trigger. If it don't go bang, pull the trigger again. Simple as that. I have sold quite a few SKYY Industries 9mm's lately. Good price and forever warranty. 0
