What is the Best Hangun for a Lady?
I know there has been a few of these threads lately but I would like fresh Ideas.
I am leaning towards a Glock or Beretta.
What revolvers should I look at?

Glocks are not good purse guns....Beretta is a HUGE gun and will get left at home. The Walther 380 design (even if it is a Bersa) is a favorite with 99% of the women I show them to. I like a revolver for MANY reasons.....they are easy to work....easy to see that they are loaded....no buttons, slides, or mags to deal with...and that they are a small size and more chance that they will keep it on them rather than leaving them at home.
Smith is a good one....but Taurus is $100 cheaper and built very well.0 -

This is for my friends widow and I am just not familiar with what would be good for a lady and she mainly wants it for her home.

Before you get her anything, better find out if she has arthritis in her hands, wrists or arms anywhere....
We found a lot of older women and some younger ones cannot work the slide on a semi auto...and a revolver turned out to be the best buy cause all they do is cock it...
SOme were insistant on a semi auto even though they couldnt work the slide, so we had to show them how to cock it on the edge of a chair, table etc....Still others had to have a trigger adjustment as they couldnt even pull the trigger, especially on newer models...
So find out first and then go from there....
What I would say is take her to a gun store...let her handle the guns, see if she can work the slide, find out if she is more comfortable with a revolver or semi auto....
Dont just "buy her one" as a gift etc,...it may end up costing your widow friend her life...0 -

Very good suggestions.
I had an ASTRA 75 light weight that she shot before her husband died and she loved that pistol and almost bought it from me.
I have since sold it and she wants something that is like size but wants to keep the price down.
I havn't told her I am going to give her one.
The Bersa is a 380 lightweight and the one I have has been 100% reliable.
I will let her try that and see if she likes it.0 -

SIG P-229 9MM or the Beretta 9000s a 12+1 RD 9MM. However the 9000 series has been replaced by the PX4, which I find less desirable. You can still buy the 9000 series there are plenty around. 0 -

Giving a Glock to someone with little gun knowledge is a real good way to have her accidentally shoot herself with it. And the Beretta is huge, I am a big guy and I don't like that thing at all. Look at used single stack S&W or Sig semis.0 -

1. Ref: Autos- be sure that she can cycle the action, and has sufficent strength to strong arm the weapon when firing- if you limp wrist an auto, it will short stroke- no second shot. 2. Revolver- S&W, 38 Special, one that fits her hand, 3 inch bbl minimum is good, since 2 inch bbls do not have a full length ejector rod, and reloading in a hurry can be a problem.
