Honestly?
Which part of the country do you feel does the best BBQ?
I have tried many different types and really cannot deside!
I do know that I like it good and spicy!

Kansas City. My uncles from there, WHOOOEEE! 0 -
BBQ is an art.
I can make pudding out of meat.
Asking what part of the country makes the best BBQ is like asking what part of the country has the best radio stations or the greatest painters.0 -

I termed it like that because when people talk BBQ they normally split things up into regions such as Kansas City, Texas, Southwest, Carolina, and others.0 -
The best mustard sauce BBQ I have had was at a place just outside of Columbia, SC.
The best red BBQ was some that I did myself with a Coca-Cola BBQ sauce recipe that I got online.
The best dry rub was in Knoxville, TN.0 -
From pulling off the road - Texas flat country.

[8D]-I've never been to the South, just for Ribs, but John Ascuaqa's Nugget in Sparks Nv., RIB COOKOFF Aug 29 thru Sept 3 has BBQ ribs competition--
--these guys come from all over the world and the prices aren't outrageous, but if you try a bunch of the diff-ribs You will drink a lot of beer and put on 15 lbs in 3 days-it's fantastic, probably 45 different BBQ techniques for ribs--

I've been to the rib cookoff many many times!
Some of the best ribs a person will ever eat are served there!
All you got to do is walk up and down Sparks Blvd to get your fill![:p]0 -
Do they cut the grass around Sparks Blvd.? 0 -
I've had great ribs and brisket at many places across the south, all different, but good in their own right.
However, bar none, the absolute best Hot Links in the world are at, of all places, Dr. Hogley Wogley's Tyler Texas Bar-B-Que in Van Nuys, California![:p] Hands down, the ultimate Hot Links and I've come very close on many occasions to OD'ing on them![:p][:p]0 -
I think it has more to do with the part of town than the part of the country.[:D]

very hard to find genuine BBQ, grilled meat in BBQ sauce calling it BBQ is a dime a dozen, but to answer your question about genuine BBQ cannot be answered because i never had bad BBQ, and to judge them with out tasting them on the same day would not be fare, a person may be more hungry one day than the next, and the more hungry you are the better anything taste
in my opinion there is only one way to make real BBQ, slow, slow, slow, and it doesn't matter if it is done in Kansas city or new york city0 -
Very slow and no propane! 0 -
I'll have to agree with the statement about being hungry. The best brisket I have ever had in my life was in DFW airport. It was great. 0 -
GRD, try Little Pigs Barbeque on Alpine Road in Columbia. I haven't been there in about six or seven years, so it might not be open anymore.
It's the best I ever had I think.0 -
Mine here in CA- all I need is to say the word to three people and I will have a BBQ joint, but I am not restaurant business savoy.
All I need to do is look on the back side of cooked or raw ribs to tell if they know what there doing.
Some of the best here are the little guys with huge wood grills![^][:p]0 -
I beleive Texas. I didn't even know what a grill REALLY was until I moved to Texas. People here seem to take pride in their grills like they take pride in their guns, or their first born child. Texas loves their BBQ. 0 -
If your meat is smoked, it's a matter of geographics. (List below has a lot of overlap). Smoked meat makes goooood BBQ!!
SW..........Mesquite smoking
S/SE........Hickory smoking
Central.....Maple Smoking
Northern....Apple Wood Smoking
Far North...Dried Corncob Smoking
Best, Joe0 -

As far as the wood I definatly prefer mequite except on fish and then I like alder or apple.
But on rubs and sauce I really am still undesided.
I know most are not spicy enuff for me.0 -
Hudson's in Lexington is putting another place in Cayce on Knox abbott. They are the best around here and reasonably priced. 0 -
Kansas city has the best BBQ hands down and we have several places that will give anybody a run for their money. Bryants, Gates, Oklahoma Joes and KC masterpiece. The List goes on, I can't stand the BBQ done with vinegar and we don't serve it here. Now lets hear form the peanut gallery about good BBQ[:D][}:)][:D][}:)] 0 -
I like my beer BBQ... 0 -
I've traveled the entire lower 48 states and IMO the best BBQ is in the midwest. And the WORST is in the southeast. But that may be because I don't like BBQ that tastes like vinegar. 0 -

I didn't like the vinegar base BBQ either when I first tasted it. Some BBQ places use too much and not enough red pepper. Three types here in the Southeast, Vinegar, Ketchup, mustard.0 -

Got the same problem, jut can't decide which is the best. As BBQ is pretty important, I just can't take anyone's word for it and I'll have to check it out for myself. That means I just might have to spend the rest of my days traveling the country searching for the best Q. Tough job but I'l do it. Hope I never find it either, just keep on searching.
Q is like something else, none of it is really bad, just some is better than others.0 -

My porpose in asking was so I can start doing more experimenting in makeing my own.[:D]
I have came up with a dry rub for pork that I think is about as good as any I have ever had, but am still looking for that great rub or marinade for beef and to find a way to start makeing my own sauces.
I am smokeing a pork roast today and have had it in my dry rub all night. This rub turns to a liquid after sitting all night like this and really soaks into the meat real good flavoring all the way through.
For my sauce I have been buying some stuff off a traveling BBQ stand that is pretty darn good and spicy. It does have a good flavor but it still seems like it is missing something and I cannot figure out what it is.0 -
depends on your defintion of bbq- and that changes as you move around.[:p] 0 -

I personally like the heat of SW style but with a combined flavor of Texas and Carolina styles.
I just cannot figure out how to combine the 3 together!0
