Crawdad, Crayfish, Mud Bug, Fresh Water Lobster?
What do you call them where you live? Do you catch, or trap them? Do you like to eat them? If so, how do you cook them? [:p]
I can't wait for season to open in just a few weeks. Last year we caught about fifty HUGE bugs in about an hour. What a feast! I've had them in New Orleans, Houston, Portland, Chicago, San Diego, Fayetteville, Jackson Hole and Seattle. They were prepared differently in each place and they were all delicious. * At home I enjoy them steamed with lemon and butter, or New Orleans style (spicy BBQ broth) when I really want to "get into it". Crawdad. Use for bait. Smallies and Goggle-eyes love 'em. 0 -
Add crawfish to your list.
I've actually tried to develop a taste for 'em, including getting drunk and sucking the heads, but I just can't quite get there.
To me they just taste like spiced up mud.0 -

Crawdad here.
Didn't know there was a season on'em.
Got a couple of holes that produce really well if they don't dry up too soon.Just use a minnow seine.[;)]
Boil'em like shrimp,peel'em and deep-fry,or use'em in a gumbo.
The small ones make good catfish bait.

Crawfish. Boiled with some spices and garlic bread and drawn butter.
From the creek(crick) 100 yards from the house.
Catch them in a gallon milk jug, with very nasty stuff for bait.

Crawfish here in southeast Louisiana. Eat 'em boiled, fried, or in etouffee. Gotta have a cold miller with 'em though. We even go out on a sunny day and catch 'em out of the ditch and go fishing with 'em. Tabby's love 'em. 0 -

Crawdad- The largest I have ever seen in my area was just about 14-16" long. 0 -
Crawfish.
Boiled up sixty pounds Easter Sunday and another 40 this past Saturday night.
Peeled what was left over an made etouffee on Sunday. Had the leftovers from that today for lunch.
Thirty years ago my father would drop us, myself and a few friends, off on the side of the road in the swamp. We would spend the day crawfishing and he'd pick us and darn near 100 pounds of crawfish up in the afternoon. We'd go home and wash up, then meet back at our house to boil them.
Pop would get polluted around 10-11pm and then we would steal some of his beer. I can remember hearing my mom fussing at him for how much he drank. Had to wait another twenty years to tell him we were helping him out.
When I was young it was not a very popular dish and we never had a problem getting some at a cheap price.
Now a days we are importing them from China. I'd rather eat them out of a s h i t ditch then to eat them that came from china.
