Do you wear hearing protection?
My friends and I were going to do some shooting and I was being ridiculed and called a ice cream for wearing ear plugs. Does anybody else try to protect their hearing or am I a ice cream?

What didja say? Seriously, though, ABSOLUTELY I wear ear protection. Plugs or ear covers, even outdoors.0 -
Yes! 0 -
I wear hearing protection on everything but 22 rifles.
I wear MAX ear plugs with a NRR of 33. You can't find anything better.
Hearing loss is something I don't take lightly. I work at a manufacturing plant where the dB's can reach 120+, some guys I've never seen wear hearing protection and they'll walk right beside those peices of equipment.0 -
Every time I go shooting. I will confess when shooting a truck gun, either 12 gague or .22 mag I dont. 0 -
Whats that? what, well of course, only dummies don't wear them, unless you are shooting a subsonic suppressed gun. 0 -
Yes I do...sometimes i get wracked on when we're shooting 22 pistols 0 -
Didn't wear hearing protection
for years when I was young and stupid.
Use to go down cellar and shoot my .22
at playing cards into a stump until I got
sick to my stomach and my ears rang. Now my ears
ring constantly and not so
loud noises are painful.0 -
yep, and glasses too, that's why i can still hear, and have 20/15 vision 0 -
No, you are not an ice cream. I wear eye and ear protection all the time. 0 -
Ice Cream??? I didn't think p*ssy was censored.[:o)] 0 -
Of course not,.....there are cat lovers here too.[;)] 0 -
Anyone who shoots without hearing protection is a fool. If they wernt, all they would have to do is a little research to find out how little it takes to do irreversable damage. If they don't believe it, ask an older combat vet from the infantry. 0 -

I told them we will see who has their hearing in 20 years from now. Of course they laughed and said thats what hearing aids are for. There you typical redneck kinda of guys. Plus, I play guitar and harmonica and my hearing is very important.0 -
Unless I'm in the field hunting I always wear them. Even where plugs inside muffs when shooting indoors. It is important even when shooting .22 LR from a rifle. The 22s create a high frequency wave beyond the audible range that is reported to be very destructive to your hearing in the long run. 0 -

+1
My ears ring all the time.
Ask yourself this - which will be more unpleasant, guys calling you a p*ssy now or tinnitus forever?0 -
I used to think like your friends, but that was when I was young and stupid. Now I am in my mid 30's and I have serious hearing loss and I am compleatly deff with several frequences. Just wait, they will look real cool wearing their hearing aids and asking everybody they meet "what did you say?" 0 -
in any non-hunting and i would guess defense situation i dont. but one rifle crack isnt too bad. as far as target and plinking yes 0 -
Always, at the range, even when the kids or I are shooting the .22s. Yes, the kids do, too. I don't where any while deer hunting though.
I have hearing loss from being around the motor pool, ranges, and artillery.
I also have very selective hearing loss around my wife.0 -
anything louder than a shout causes hearing loss... that said, i cant say that i wear plugs always when shooting. i try to though, and keep a couple pairs of plugs in every vehicle, cleaning kit, ammo can, etc... 0 -
Find new friends.
If they are as stupid and macho about muzzle/gun safety as they are about protecting their hearing, your very existence is in jeopardy.0 -
[8D]--I never leave home without them--

The only time I fire a firearm without hearing protection is when I am taking a shot at game during hunting. 0 -

Only when the wife commences her blabbering. Yep0 -
I've taken a few impulse shoots out the back door where I don't want to take the time to put the ear plugs in. It's usually my last regret before I pull the trigger.
Anymore, I wear hearing protection when mowing the grass. I to work in some very loud environments and have learned to enjoy the silence of hearing protection.0 -
Huh? What? 0 -
As a young Infantryman, I fired everything for 22s to 106 Recoiless rifles with no hearing protection. (What-earplugs- are you sumkine a wuss?) I now have permanent hearing loss. Damage your hearing, and you won't feel a thing. After a while, you won't HEAR a thing, either. I wear foam plugs with a 33 NRR, and muffs over the top (adds about 5 dB protection) when shooting major caliber pistol or rifle- and at least plugs with anything not suppresed. Trying hard to keep what I got left. 0
