Well, now we'll both be unemployed...
The wife was fed-up on Thursday. She has been the shining star at the office for a few years, she's the "go-to" person there, and the doctors all come to her for information. She got called into the office manager's office and was told that she's not being a team player and that the other employees are complaining that she doesn't do anything. This is strange, considering that she's always on the run in the office and is normally picking up the slack that others leave.
So, the office manager sent her home and told her to think about what she wanted to do with her career and to offer a decision today (Monday).
So, she did.
The wife headed off to work this morning and the plan was for her to tell the office manager that she was going to work much harder at being a "team player" and then went in with a laundry list of all the things that are done inefficiently that should be revised and provided solutions for each of those inefficiencies.
The wife also decided that she's quitting at the end of June and going back to school full-time. The original plan was for her to return to school after I graduated (at the end of August) and landed a job so that we would both not be unemployed at the same time.
I still pull in a few bucks here and there selling my writing, but it isn't what I would describe as full-time income.
We checked the finances and determined that we had enough in an earmarked savings account set up just for her going back to school to pay for tuition, books and to make up for her lost salary and the COBRA benefits we'll have to pay, plus give me a two-month buffer to find a job before that savings account is completely wiped out.
So, the wife is going back to school. I'll be finishing up school. This'll be interesting. It has been a very long time since I've not had money coming in while money is going out.

Good for both of you.
I find it interesting that SO many younger guys nowadays
insist on buying LOTS of TOYS and complain in the same
breath that they are broke all the tine - living from paycheck
to paycheck! ... and just can't figure out why they are having
such an 'unfairly hard go of it!'
I could write a lot about this observation - but won't.

I know how your wife feels as it's the norm today. Glad to hear y'all have a plan.
I have a plan to. Quit working for anyone but myself.
If you think the private sector is bad you should see the corruption at the Federal level.
It would blow your mind away.0 -
I'm Retired, but I quit a lot of jobs, easiest thing in the world to do, you just walk up to your supervisor and tell him or her, I'm quiting and I'm ready to leave NOW or I will stay ONE week.(that way you get the last word)
I had a bad experience, I worked for one Co for over 18 years and then the Co. hired a hit man and got rid of 15 of us out of 26. then 15 of the 26 quit on their own. Co went out of business about 8 Mo's later. We all got together and had a big PARTY. I was a Co. man till that happened. I never gave another American Co. an even break after that, guess what, they thought I was Great.0 -

Agreed, just to add to this a little bit. They also seem to have a problem with selling there "toys" when they are having money problems. I am a younger guy(21) who has had many "toys", but I have also sold my fare share to help myself and my girlfriend financially. I don't think that there are enough people who put a little bit of money to the side in case they need it in the future, I personally do. I also never use this saved money for my toys, I save money on the side for them. Good luck with your finances spanielsells. From the sounds of it you should be okay.
