Work boot recommendations???
I need a hardcore work boot with phenominal soles. I am probably the hardest person you've met on a pair of shoes/boots. I also have a very bad back/knees/hips and if I don't have a top notch boot, I'm in a lot of pain. As far as hiking boots go, I am a BIG fan of Lowa. They have to be the most comfortable boot I've ever worn...as a matter of fact, your foot feels better inside the boot than out of it. Unfortuantely, they are not as durable as I need for a work boot and at over $200 a pair, I cannot afford a pair that won't hold up. I need a boot that is engineered to fit and provide support/comfort where needed...but that will last. Any recommendations? My ankles will not tollerate a mid ankle height boot. It either has to be a low (tennis shoe style) or a taller boot that goes above the ankle. Thanks![:)]

guys on the fire department im on use both Red Wings and Rocky's. 0 -
I wear $280 Red Wings for work. We get a huge discount and most of it paid for by the company. I will wear nothing but Red Wings as long as they are around. I've worn these for over a year and probably could get another year out of them. I get new ones every year, however. They're unbelieveably comfortable, I replace the insoles every 2-3 months. I wear them for 12hrs+ a day, have never gone home with sore feet.
I've worn through a pair of high end Wolverines in about 3months. Each day coming home with sore feet.
I have had good experience with Stanley Work Boots. I got them when I was a contractor and had to buy my own footwear. Had them for 5 months, most of those weeks were 70-80hr weeks. Feet were sore and tired at times, could have been solved by new insoles I guess. They set me back $50.
Danner and Carolina are also excellent boots.
Edit: Look for Worx boots, they're made by RedWing, but made in China. Great boots for the money.0 -
+1 for Red wings- but my high top steel toed engineer boots are Mason's- mail order company. good comfortable boots, real leather- 0 -
Just expect to spen 3 hours in the store. The last boots I bought, I tried them all and ended up with a pair I did not expect, try them on and if they feel good walk around for 20 minutes, it is worth it, nothing worse than paying good money for shoes you don't wear, I'm shure we all have some. 0 -
Check Whites all hand made in WA the best boot I have ever owned 0 -
Something light and comfy. Caterpillar makes a decent boot. If you want something that's been approved for a military uniform, check out Converse's safety toe desert boots. They come highly recommended by the people I know who wore them over there. 0 -
I am very picky about my boots as I also have bad knees and ankles. I have not owned a pair of sneekers in over 15 years and I currently own only 2 pair of boots. My new pair are 3 year old Wolverines and they are pretty worn out. They are a hiking boot style and the exterior is shot but they feel like new inside. My old pair are 6 year old Cat's (made by Wolverine), they are a true work boot and will still take a polish. I wore them everyday for 3 years and now they are my dress shoes that I wear for special occasions. I am curently looking at a good set of Redhead's and I'll see how they stand up. I have also had great experances with Lehigh and Redwing, but why buy a $250 boot that will last me 3 years when I can buy a $100 boot that will last just as long. When you go shooping for boots you need to try everything on that is in the store and if the comfort level matches your tollerance for payment then buy them. Never settle for anything other than the best when it comes to your feet. 0 -
+3 on the red wings, they are the only boot I will wear. I used to wear them every where, now that I am in Cali, its to damn hot to wear pants all the time. The man reason I like them is because they are good on concrete and thats what I need. You should look into what you need, good book manufacturers have a list of what their boot is designed for. 0 -
yea what he said better than I could.

Whites. I have broken both feet and have a hard time finding boots/shoes that I can wear for more than about an hour. Whites are tough can be rebuilt and wear great. I would rather wear my Whites than tennis shoes for comfort. I wear the 10" "Smoke Jumpers". I have spent a bunch of money on boots in the last 15 years looking for good ones Whites are the ticket. They offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee as well. 0 -
Chippewa boots are incredibly durable. and reasonably priced. 0 -
Spend the money get red wings! Best boot I ever had! 0 -
Red Wings, for over 25 years...I kept trying to go to another boot, but ONLY Red Wings were close to broken-in when I got each pair, and only Red Wings lasted real long. In the years, I tried most anything I could, but each time I tried another brand, I was either disappointed by the useable life, or the boot hurt after a few hours wear. For most of the years, I would wear a boot for twelve to sixteen hours at a stretch. Only a few brands could make it through the hours, and the hard use I put them to...(weld spatter, hot 130-degree engine rooms, with oil and grease on steel ladders and gratings, and occasional water/oil immersions). They saved my feet/toes several times throughout the years. I tired to make them cheaper to own by having them resoled and/or re-heeled, but never got full service from boots so repaired. In the end, I just would buy another new set whenever the pair I had was about half worn. I alternated pairs so they could dry out, as I would sweat so much in the work conditions. 0 -
Back when I did roofing I always bought Carolina's. I could generally get 2 years wear out of a pair. 0 -
If you can tolorate a roper style western boot (Lace up, low heel, not a pointed but a rounded toe), Ariat makes a great work boot!
I have never been able to destroy a pair of them!
They are resoleable if you do ever happen to wear through the soles ( I personally have not been able to do this yet).
But not everyone can tolorate wearing a roper style boot for work.
They run about $150 a pair.0 -
I have very little cartilage
left in my knees so I'm always
on the lookout for good footwear.
I bought a pair of wolverine boots
with Durashock, nice and light and
very easy on the knees.0 -
I always get Texas Steers they seem confortable to me and last forever
My feet are size 14 EEE and because my foot is wide at times they have a deal where you buy one pair and get the second one free.0 -
Danner Acadia. They are expensive, but once they are broke in, it's like walking on air. 0 -
Here is another vote for the Red Wings (or Worx). As an added bonus, Red Wing sells an insert for the boots that they mold to your foot. They stick the insert in a toaster oven for a couple of minutes, then slide it into the boot. You then put your foot in and stand on it for a couple of minutes. It molds itself to your foot. You would not believe the difference in comfort and shock absorbsion. I love mine so much that I take them out of my boots and put them in my tennis shoes if I know I am going to be doing a lot of walking. I will probably go to get another set to put into my hunting boots as well. 0 -
Chippawa or Red Wing. 0 -
Wolverine
Tractor Supply carries them, lot better price than shoe stores.0 -
I think you would be happy with a new pair of JACKBOOTS[:)] 0 -
Just another vote for Redwings.
Great boots.0 -
Red Wings - I have tried them all. Red Wings are the best for my money. Comfortable, last longer, support, etc. Couldn't wear saftey toes until I went to Red Wing, they are great. And now my employer has decided to buy each employee a pair of Red Wings every year. 0 -
From the powerplant(where real men work)
Lots of walking types- Hi-Tech ($90, but wear out fast)super light and comfortable. Not much waterproof or heat resistance.
Some walking, lots of standing/working-Chippewa ($250)hands down the most durable boot I have owned (And I've gone through over-yep over-100 pairs of boots)and were broke in the minute I put them on. Plus made in the US.
Wolverine Durashock-wear well and are very comfortable ($150)
Been through as many as 10 pair in a year, due to various issues. These are my favorites.0 -
I use WORK by Badlands .... Iv'e had em all and this is the finest work boot in the world...
Kinda hard to find .... In fact the only dealer I know sell them out of a truck and comes to our shop twice a year,,,
Boot is so good, I alwys have a new back up pair stashed away...Just in case I can't find them. The 1st day I had them was the last day of foot pain for me!!!0 -

If that is you.
Check into Matterhorn boots made for underground mining.
They are the toughest work boot made PERIOD.
The military adopted them as their official boot supplier when the sand eat the other brands to shreds.
Yes they are rather expensive. But you did say.. "I need a hardcore work boot with phenominal soles. I am probably the hardest person you've met on a pair of shoes/boots.."
So my advice. Get a pair of Matterhorn mining boots now. Or wish you did when the Rockys, Redwings or Wolverines fall apart.0 -
+1 on the Red Wing. Get a pair a year. Stay in them for around 12 hours a day. 0 -
I have had Redwings and they are great, Now I am working on a pair of Doc Martens steel toe, for a year. welding, sandblasting, grinding, and acid and they are holding up well.
