In the first picture it looks like he has a Winchester Model 1892 Trapper Carbine in 38-40 or 44-40. 0 -
Is that a snake? Never been snake hunting. 0 -

I've never heard of Big Cat hunters eating their harvest. I've taken my share of fish and game, while I do consider it sport every one of them was and will be food for me and/or my family. Killing the Big Cats, a necessary part of their ecosystem, for "sport" and adventure doesn't impress me. Guys like Sasha are the reason the Big Cats are endangered these days.0 -

The dead snake is fine. The dead cats on the other hand......[V]
I've never thought very highly of big cat hunters.0 -
Always have despised "trophy" hunters.[xx(] 0 -
Those are awsome pictures! 0 -
I'm glad scum like him aren't around any more.
Real men don't kill cats, or giant snakes!

Cartod beat me to it but thats all thats there is Leapords.I dont see anything where he should be the Tiger Man.I have never agreed with the hunting of the big cats, they are to beautiful and majestic. 0 -
garbage... 0 -
Hmmm,
He has a fixed bayonet in one pic? I imagine there might have been a time when big cat numbers were needed to be reduced.

Perhaps unacceptable by today's standards but it was another time and place very few of us have experience with. 0 -
[8D]--I'm sure, he had a CCW, because those beautiful cats must have CHARGED him in his home town--
--I don't give a poop about the snake, but the cats should have had vests--
--The great hunter makes me SICK--

Wow, you all are total .... wait, forum rules, I can't point out blatent stupidity.
OK, for those that didn't bother to look up his history, he worked in Brazil and Argentina for most of his life where he was the local Tigereo (sp?) What this means is the local ranchers would hire him to go after Jaguars that had been killing their cattle or, on frequent occassion, he was hired to go after mankillers.
"Oh no! That big mean 'ol hunter man killed a putty cat!!!" You all sound like a bunch of San Francisco liberals.
Oh, BTW, many of his hunts against jaguars inolved him killing it on foot with a spear, which was the only way to hunt them in the middle of tall, thick grass. So, he has b@lls bigger than pretty much any of us.
Try investigating a little before you pass judgement on a guy. You all probably hate the British officer who killed the lions of Tzavo (sp?) too, don't ya?0 -

The backround of the guy, very short, but informative.0 -
Here is an article he wrote in 1937. "Why I Prefer the Bow to the Rifle"

True, dongzimo. My apologies. [:D] 0 -
Well, I made an assumption that pretty much most of you all would have known who he was. I've known about him since I was 12 (almost 20 years ago) when my dad told me about him, but I had never seen pictures. The couple of hunters I've met around my area also knew who he was. I assumed that most hunters had heard of him, kind of like how most of us gun people know who Jeff Cooper was. 0 -

I wonder how many trappers are eating those muskrats they kill!!! And why would fisherman need to fish,,,Hell they should have just eaten the worm instead of killing two critters. And I'm sure the lot of you fire up the grill every freaking time the mousetrap snaps or you go on a fly swatting rampage....
Gimme a break.... if you were born 100 yrs sooner....that be you!!!
Well maybe not, after all those critters will fight back!!!!0 -
OK,........I made a mistake! I still despise trophy hunters, but maybe he simply filled a "role", in that era.
I am fully aware of whom Jeff Cooper was, BTW.
The time for this garbage today though, has come to an end, with the big cats.
Also, I would ban the "canned hunts", that still take place in Africa, by small men, with big pockets. Poaching there is bad enough, without letting the other continue to be a major business.
"Hunters" flame away!
BTW,........I used to hunt a lot, but it was deer, turkey, dove, quail, and boar. Hardly in danger of extinction,.... and nothing ever went to waste.
There is a "game farm" here, where the stock is penned in and fed, and idiots can pay to hunt there.
I personally would have never done that either.
It is supposed to be a sport, not sitting on your azz, and shooting a half tame animal that has lost most of its fear of humans.
That is my "rant" in a nutshell!0 -
Here is a song for you all
