Honeymoon Help Needed !
Getting married in August and would like either to go to the Carribean or Hawaii . Any recommendations on where to go and experience with all-inclusive hotels ? Thanks ..

Hawaii is a tourist trap and way over rated. Go to the Bahamas and enjoy (more laid back and better for honeymoon). Nassau was better than Freeport to my wife and me, but both are great. The beaches and water were much more enjoyable in the Bahamas than Hawaii. You can go island hopping in Hawaii and have great fun but be ready to shell out the bucks. For the MONEY $$ I beleive the Bahamas is much better. Good luck and have fun, which ever way you go. 0 -

My wife and I went to St. Lucia on our honeymoon. We stayed at a Sandals resort. We loved it. Couples only and all inclusive (including SCUBA, watersports, food, drink, etc.). My sister and her husband have been to a Sandals in Jamaica and loved it too. At Sandals, you can even visit the other Sandals resorts in the area free of charge.
We also went to Maui a couple of years ago and really liked it. We didn't do the all inclusive (hard to find in Hawaii) and the place we stayd had a lot of kids there. We were really glad we had done the couples only for the honeymoon.

We went to a Sandals resort in Jamica. It was very good, drinks and food were part of the package. Plenty of things to do, although we need to go back. We kept learning of new things to do everyday, usually to late though. Plus we were a little tight with money, so doing something off the resort was out of the question. However, the stuff off of the resort was a resonable price 50-100 per person for the day. We booked our package in May for December, got almost half off of the deal. We had fun [;)][}:)]. We will be going back, the food was good, although spicy, the drinks were excellent and they used high quality alcohol, service was top notch. When we go back, we will have enough money to spend on things outside of the resort and such, should be another great time. 0 -
We went to an all inclusive resort south of Playa del Carmon in Aug. 1998. We had a great time. It was better than the Caribbean Cruise from last year. He resort was called the Royal Miava (sp). I think that it has changed names and the resorts in that area were hit real hard by a couple of hurricanes a couple of years ago. Not sure what shape they are in now. 0 -
My step-son got married 6 months ago. They spent their honeymoon in Fiji and really enjoyed it.

Neither - do Alaska.
We did Vancouver up the coast to Juneau and back with a stop every day to do something cool. Only thing that was the hassle was the extra day that we wanted to stay in vancouver on the tail end to see the aquarium, stanley park, etc. and it made flight back arrangements a PITA. but it was worth it

Sandals is a rip-off. My wife and I did a week in Ocho Rios and a week in Montego Bay.
Yes, it is true that it is an all-inclusive resort. So, while you are on premises everything is "free."
What's that mean?
You can sit on the beach all day. You can engage in any non-motorized activity (no jet skis, etc.). You can drink until you float away, but what they don't tell you is that you can order ANYTHING YOU WANT, not just what they tell you they have (we discovered this the last day of our honeymoon).
This also means that any off-resort activities (you'll get very bored very fast) are very expensive. Expect to pay per person anywhere from $100 on up for a few hours of fun. That's just to get things started.
Once you leave the resort, you're expected to tip everyone for everything. Here's what happened to us, and I'm not making any of this up:
1. We flew into Montego Bay. Our plane landed. Our luggage was immediately hijacked and held hostage for a "tip." Pay anything less than $5 per bag, and you'll get an earful.
2. You'll leave the terminal and someone will hold open the door for you. They'll block your path until you "tip" them.
3. You'll need a shuttle to get from the airport to whichever resort you're going to. You'll tip the shuttle driver.
4. Now, here's what you're also not told up front. There is an airport surcharge that MUST be paid in AMERICAN DOLLARS for your RETURN trip. It is something like $20 or $30 per person. Be sure to save this amount for your return trip. It must be paid in cash -- no checks, no credit cards, no debit cards.
5. Any fun you want to have off-resort means you're tipping doormen, shuttle drivers and anyone associated in any way, shape and form with your "fun." So, if you go on a glass-bottom boat tour, you're tipping their doorman and you're tipping the entire crew of your boat, plus the shuttle driver who took you to and from the resort (99% of the time is it the same guy and you can get away with tipping him on the return trip only).
This is typical for Jamaica. I have no idea what to expect anywhere else.0 -

If Hawaii, I would chose Kauai, its fantastic! The garden island. I have been to the big island, Ohau and Maui. Kauai is the best in my opinion. It is expensive but a much better experience.
I have been to the Bahanas many times by boat, by seaplane and by regular airplane. I don't like the attitude you get from the people that live there. Poverty level is nasty as it is in Mexico and Bermuda. If you choose to go there stay at a first rate hotel or resort and watch yourself, its dangerous.
My first choice if I could afford it is Tahaiti and the out islands like Bora Bora and Wihenie. What beauty and beautiful people that treat you well. Unspoiled and the clearist water on the planet. Here is a picture.0 -

I would choose Tahiti, Kauai, Maui, Waikiki, Honolulu in that order over anything in the caribean island chain.
Thats just my personal opinion. I lived in south florida for over 10 years in the 1970's and SCUBA dived most of the reefs in Florida and a lot of them in the Bahamas. What you can see in Tahiti or Hawaii is much nicer than the caribean.
The Virgin Islands are another choice that I would take over the Bahamas any day of the week. Just my opinion folks.0 -

Not as glamorous as Hawaii or the Carribean but for our honeymoon this fall, we're just taking a 12 day road trip out east. It won't be as extraordinary as tropical islands, but we're going to have fun and visit a lot of places we've always wanted to see. Other pluses:
We're not going to deal with airports, car rentals, or greedy foreigners. The entire trip will be paid in cash. We're not on a schedule. We remain under U.S. law.
Good luck with your trip whichever you decide. My mom's been to Hawaii a couple of times and really liked it. Except for being at the mercy of others' schedules. I would like to visit Hawaii someday.0 -

Fiji- A trip you will never forget, tons of places all inclusive and you can even rent your own island. Swim in the Blue Lagoon (where the movie was made) The people are great, the bluest water you will ever see, and always something to do. The most expensive part is the flight.

Sorry can't advise on location as I havent' been to HI or Carribean, but I have gone all-inclusive on trips to Spain and Egypt, for budget reasons. It is handy and can make a trip more affordable, but kinda chains you to the hotel for meals unless you have a bigger budget. At most of the tourist hotels they also have day trips available where meals are provide, so you can get a variety of meal options besides just the hotel kitchen. But if you venture too far away from the all-inclusive hotel you have to buy your own meals or make it back to the hotel in time for the organized meal. Nothing like snorkeling or scuba and eating the fresh fried fish with fresh veggies on the back of the boat. 0 -

I was in Hawaii but never went to the Carribean. We enjoyed Hawaii-saw Oahu, Kauii & Maui. I liked them all but Kauii was the most laid back of the 3 islands. Maui was neat but a little more pricey. Oahu was interesting, especially Pearl Harbor. If it wasn't so pricey, I could be happy living there. I went in mid-august and loved the climate. 0
