I've found from personal experience that a bayonet can double as a can opener. My dad moved out of the apartment we were sharing and took everything except my bed, a TV, and the computer. The only thing I had was the bayonet for my Garand, it was my knife, fork, pizza cutter, and can opener for near a month.0 -
The family bunker IS the SHTF kit. Of course, there are smaller kits in each vehicle- in a carrying package- for family members that are somewhere else when SHTF. And a modified kit that will make it past TSA folks when I travel (which is a LOT). What's in that one? Ahhh- that would be telling![:p] 0 -
I got all kinds of neat stuff in the kitchen junk drawer. Last I checked, had a few pot holders, loose screws and nails, small flashlight with a dead battery and some twisty ties...
What exactly does it mean when the proverbial SHTF? Nuclear war? Stubbed toe on the bed post? Zombies?? It's not as prevalant here as on AR15.com...that's all those folks talk about...
99.99999999999999999999% of us will never see anything remotely resembling a real SHTF scenario...unless you live in Colorado. That's where the disguised passenger jets drop the Russian and Cuban soldiers.

I also recommend Maxi-pads. The super aborbent ones. They can be used for hygeine and they're sterile which means they make excellent gauze dressings in a trauma situation. You can buy 30 of em for 8 bucks. 0 -
