Maybe it best if I say why I ask. I may have the opportunity to trade
my pristine, early model Oly AR-15 for a like new, unknown
(at this time) brand AK-47.
Just trying to get and idea if I should even consider it.0 -
Seriously I would take and M4 Type AR over any other rifle/carbine n a survival scenario.
There are to many variables in what the trade is that you mentioned to make a comment on it.0 -
Since this thread topic is not nearly timeless enough...
Which is better, Chevy or Ford?0 -
I'll take my AK, since I already own one, and won't have to spend more of my precious money on an AR. [:D][:D][:D] 0 -
If it were a 223 Sidefolder AK the decision would be harder.
My choice would be a stainless steel, 16" barreled, Flat top AR with Acog scope and popup front and rear sights.0 -

Would I be showing my age if I said I'd prefer my trusty ol' Brown Bess?[:D][:p] 0 -
For dependability and overall fire power I would go with the AK in a real SHTF senerio.
That being said, on a trade like you stated, it would depend on the AK before I traded. I say this because value wise the AR is genrally worth more money than the AK. So check actual values before you do it.0 -
AK dont have to worry about it 0 -
Ford and an HK 0 -

TROMIX8 14.7MM AK SHTF Special
Yeah baby 14.7mm AK Zombie killer0 -
SHTF? I prefer the term, "When the balloon goes up..."
by the way, i'd be carrying an AR0 -
I would prefer the AR-15. The sights on the AK47 suck; the way the gun is built I have to really hunch down into the stock to get the sights aligned. I never feel comfortable shooting an AK. 0 -
Actually I just went through the decision myself a few months ago. I never liked the Ar-15 design or the 5.56 round so I bought a couple SAR-1s, put on stocks that are 1.5 inches longer that fit me better, and the Galil type forend. Next are scope mounts and either Aimpoints or the Trijicon Tripower, can't decide which. I do like that the Trij does not require batteries. 0 -
due to ammo availability in the shtf times i would take the ar thinking more ammo easily found then the ak ammo would be .
un less the ak is a high end gun i would not make that trade.
wrench (2cents worth)0 -
Isn't this like asking the question "Which one hammer is best for all situations?" I probably have 15 hammers.
BOTH.
While not necessarily necessary, all crap is not created equal when the SHTF.0 -
If you can't fork out ther extra for the AR, save until you can. 0 -

That's kind of in-line with what I was thinking.0 -

The AR is already mine, and likely to stay that way...unless
they make me an offer I just can't refuse.[:D]0 -

AR-15!! 0 -
ak's can be had at 400, ar's are like 700+ DONT DO IT ! 0 -
DR-200
Has the best of both.
It has an AR lower takes AR mags but has an AK gas system with HK Ghost ring sights.
I put 3000 rounds through one without as much as running a bore patch. Never failed in anyway.
But, the DRs are priced in AR range and most shoot the .223
There was also a 7.62X39 version but I never had one so can't rate it.
I also have an AK folder so may sell the Daewoo. I feel everyone should have a good assault rifle for serious possibilities but my fun is in my many many bolt guns.
Just got a Model 1917, very sweet
