The easy answer here was, "The public school system does not educate Americans. It spends too much time, effort and money on social engineering."

Instead, she came up with that load of crap.

Sadly, it is an indication of just how little the public education system teaches our children as spanielsells has pointed out. Even if one was to argue that this is not true, then how would you explain someone of her caliber managing to get through the system? I believe the news reported that 1 in 5 people could not find the United States on a map. Makes you wonder what todays youth are learning in schools, doesn't it? They can't read well, they must have a calculator to do math, they don't know history and obviously geography isn't it either. Many can't even tell you who the current president is. swamp_thing

That question was just totally unfair! Now why didn't they ask her for the best way to dump a looser who won't leave you alone at a bar?

...And? WTH would you expect from one of these bimbos?

..."I would like to plant wildflowers around the world to make it more beautiful and to have everyone hug more trees; and to make cheerleading a priority in schools. If more people were into cheerleading world peace could be achieved"...[xx(]

And she's how old and where did she come from and how's it it's her fault that she isn't as smart and bright as all honorable GB members?

Are you guys dense or what? You all totally missed the deeper, "underlying truth" of her answer. Thank Allah the panel of judges was more politically indoctrinated than you bunch of dumb rocks!

She was asked a tough question devised by the great satan himself- "Why can't americans read a map?", and she turned it into a politically correct victory. "Poor people don't have maps, we should help Africa, Iraq, and Asian peoples have maps!"

I suspect that she is now on the radar screen of the political world as the next democratic candidate.
The dems can't do that for another five election cycles. You have to be at least 35 years old.

Too bad South Carolina (or wherever she was from) couldn't find ONE kid who was both cute AND reasonably intelligent to represent them. I don't fault someone for not being too bright, but this contest turned into a mediocre blonde joke.

I personally find beauty combined with intelligence a turn-on. Maybe I'm wierd.

How do you know she was in a public school? She might have been schooled in a privet school that only cared about her daddies money.

You guys are scaring me. I have a Beauty Queen riding in the Corvette convertible in a parade Labor Day. She is going to be sitting on top the car. Any precautions to make sure she don't fall off?[:o)][:o)]

    Okay guys, enough.

This is a girl. You shouldn't judge her on her response to a silly question. This is obviously the fault of poor parenting and upbringing, something is missing from her childhood. We should celebrate her and help her to understand what ramnifications behavior such as this can bring, and how she can better herself.

To be fair, she was probably nervous as f***. She was obviously trying to give a cookie cutter beauty queen answer, hard to remember your lines under stress though.

Don't be ridiculous. What other better way of self-assurance is there? Quite a sad sight indeed.

Miss Teen South Carolina gets a second chance
    The Associated Press

    COLUMBIA, S.C. --
    Updated 11:05 a.m.
This time, the question was a little easier for Miss Teen South Carolina.

After being stumped by a Miss Teen USA pageant question on live television Friday night, Lauren Caitlin Upton's confused, mangled response has been drawing a lot of attention.

The 18-year-old got a chance to redeem herself Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show when she was again asked why one-fifth of Americans can't locate the U.S. on a map.

"I would love to re-answer that question," Upton said. "Well personally, my friends and I, we know exactly where the United States is on our map. I don't know anyone else who doesn't. And if the statistics are correct, I believe there should be more emphasis on geography."

That was much better than her previous response, which included "U.S. Americans" and mentions of South Africa and "the Iraq."

A YouTube video of Upton has drawn a couple million hits and thousands of comments, many of them with harsh remarks for the Lexington High School graduate who plans to attend Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.

Upton was taking her flubbed answer - and the attention - in stride.

"Everything did come at me at once. I was overwhelmed and I made a mistake. Everybody makes a mistake. I'm human," she said Tuesday. "I seriously think I only heard about one or two words of the actual question."

Upton's former principal Creig Tyler remembered her as a well-rounded student.

"She took college-prep and honors courses and performed well, and she has a 3.5 average," Tyler told The (Columbia) State newspaper.

Miss Teen Colorado Hilary Carol Cruz won the crown. Upton was third runner-up.

It seemed to me that she used a lot of "programed" words but was unable to join the into a legible sentence. They like politicians are programed to say a lot and still avoid answering the question.
