11-year-old boy dies after being attacked by a Pitbull
Killeen, Texas
An 11-year-old Killeen boy was killed by a Pitt Bull Tuesday night, his family's pet.
Police said it happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 2900 block of Fairline.
According to investigators, Seth Lovitt was attacked inside the home while playing with his brother.
"The 11-year-old and 9-year-old children were running through the house yelling at each other between the 900 block of Fairlane.
Apparently a Pitt bull, which is a family pet, came off the couch and attack the 11-year-old," Carroll Smith with the Killeen Police Department.
Police said the boy was tossed to the ground and bitten several times in the neck, before his mother and grandmother were able to pull the dog off him and call 911.
He was pronounced dead at Darnall Army Medical Center. The dog is now in quarantine.

WRONG! Pitbulls that "have always been gentle and never hurt anyone" do this quite frequently. This breed is just too aggressive to have around kids. If you do, you are an idiot. And spare me the "We've had our pit for xx years and it's never hurt anyone" bs, PLEASE! Thats what these families always say AFTER someone gets attacked!
No reason to have a dog like that. Zero. Unless you are of the thug mind-set, and like to scare people.
My wife works for the humane society here in town. These kinds of things happen a LOT more than people realize.

Many people think that just because they have never had their life threatened they don't need a gun handy.
Many people believe that just because their large, strong dog, with large powerful jaws has never killed their child, they don't need to worry about that.
Many people (or worse, their loved children) are lying in the cemetary because it only took one tragic time and event to find out just how grossly wrong their thinking had been all these years.0 -
ain't trying to say it wasn't the dog's fault, but you know how little kids run around and scream like they're murdering each other. the dog was protecting the other kid. 0 -

Lotta truth to the above. But it is wrong to put someone who depends on you (child, very elderly person, etc) in the position of having to die if that "upbringing" somehow, someway didn't take or work right.0 -

I reckon I'll have to say it
People will kill more people this year around the world for one stupid reason or another than pit bulls will kill for the duration of their breed Maybe we should eliminate the bigger threat 1st!!! Frankly as deadly critters are concerned using the logic of they must all be bad... We really need to freaking be exterminated!!!0 -

There is a place for everything. The thing here is that pit bulls do not belong around kids. They also do not belong around strangers. I have a German Shepard. I do not let him around kids or adults he does not know. Does he bite? Not yet but what if he does? Caution around dogs is not paranoia but good sense. Don0 -

Pitts & Rotts are taking a bad rap, I have no doubt that there is a gentle bloodline out there, but it does not kill, so it does not get any press, problems like this happen with every breed, back in the early 80's it was St Bernard's, everybody wanted one, so the puppy mills cranked them out, with no care about breeding, and a couple years later the shelters were dealing with 100+ lb dogs with no training, and bred for looks alone.[:(] this is what I think has happened to the APB, bred for getto thugs who don't give a rats azz who the pups behavior may affect.

The Fire Department I work at recently responded to a call at 0230 involving a 4 month old who was the victim of a dog mauling. The infant was sleeping on the couch when the dog jumped up and started biting the young boy. It pulled him off the couch and devoured his BallPark Frank, testicles, and started eating his intestines. A friend of mine that was on the call stated that there were blood trails and drag marks over the carpetting. What evil creature could be capable of such a atrocity? None other than the pet Daschund. You didnt hear about this until I brought it to your attention because the media doesnt care about dog attacks unless they involve pit bulls, because thats what gets peoples attention. Keep in mind that all dogs are capable of attacking.......0 -

I can barely stand to read these "PIT-POSTS" anymore. If U have a kid, and U want the kid to have a good dog, get the kid one of these!!
If this dog bit your kid, your kid could just bite her back....

Every day when I go out into my backyard the neighbors two pitbulls slam into my 6' high chainlink fence, snarling and biting and growling at the wires. They keep this up as long as someone is out in my back yard. We have never done anything to make them act in this manner. My neighbor says that these two "angels" are just wanting to play and would never hurt us or my dachund or lab puppy. Of course, the blood they leave on my chainlink fence makes me think otherwise. These same two pitbulls have killed at least a dozen cats that have wandered into their backyard this year and two smaller dogs that have somehow gotten into their yard from the other side. My neighbors say that the other animals must have started something or they wouldn't have been harmed. They are in complete denial about these animals and I fear they will wake up dead someday because they are elderly and very fragile. Whenever I try to talk to them about this, I get no where......The last time, I was told to mind my own business by their big, fat lazy ass daughter......who only comes to visit periodically and view their will and make sure it hasn't been changed, by the way.
In the meantime, I'll stick with Molly...........[:)][:)]

to many back yard breeders that know nothing about bloodlines, as long as the papers semi match their good to go, you wanna good pit bloodline your not gonna get off cheap. starting price can be 2,500 bucks, and why pay that when bubba has one for 200
if anyone knows anything about selective breeding, and how breeds where made they would realize the backyard breed of pits have become a total different breed all in themselves, there nothing but time bombs0 -

The way i see it... Some good breeds of dogs, some bad. Are they not mammals? Humans, some good, some bad. I think we are mammals too. Therefore what is the difference. Good person up and kills someone. Good dog up and kills. Guess humans and dogs can fly off the handle for no reason, in the blink of an eye. Not tryin to start anything just observation. 0 -

Great suggestions on the pepper spray guys. I might just do that. It's unnerving for my granddaughters to try to play outside with those dogs doing that.....[:(!][:(!]

The stuff shoots a pretty good stream just like the ad says, my wife used to throw a paper route, and there was a dog that would chase her back in the van, she told our our mail man, and he gave her a can. I was with her when the dog charged her, she gave it a good squirt in the face, he stopped dead in his tracks and started wimpering......

I also am very selective about human contacts with my GS.. they are a very protective dog!!!0
