I Hated Cops

Seriously I met a very nice cop tonight. He pulled me over doing 75 in a 60 and all he did was politely told me to slow down and be safe.[:D]
Now that I am grown up and an adult I can even like cops.

WHOOOEE! 15 over? Wow! couple towns over theyd have 4 cop cars, swat team, K-9 unit, and your luck if not helicopters swarming you for that! 0 -
The truth is, us polite, old folks can always get past them easier than you young Men.
We are father figures to the LEOs.
Take a look at how hard y'all get stomped by insurance companies.

Back in my early days of driving truck I was allways getting a ticket for something it seemed like.
It was not untill I realized that the cops were just out doing a job like anyone else and started treating them like that was the case that I stopped getting tickets.
Not to say I didn't get stopped, but I talked to them with some desecy and like they were human beings and they started letting things slide alot more and rarely wrote any violations that would effect my driving record.
But they would write any company violations real quick but those allways were made out to the company and never effected me.0 -
I hate @zz hole *cops*, but I really do like Officers charged with upholding the law.
While both groups appear to be similar at a distance - uniform, badge, gun, car with lights on it - they really are 2 different kinds of people...0 -

It seems as if the female cops have something to prove. I can only speak from second-hand experience (I've not had a ticket since 1992), but considering the job that I held for 15 years (insurance adjuster), you can bet I've heard a lot of stories.
I have been pulled over twice since 1992 then and given warnings, both times from male LEOs.
My only first-hand experience was when I was 16, I had a tail light out on my mom's car. My mom was sitting next to me in the driver's seat. A female LEO pulled me over and issued me a ticket for the broken tail light, despite the fact that my mom indicated it was her car, not mine, and that if a ticket was going to be issued, it should be to her, not me. The LEO felt differently and issued me the ticket.0 -

I've never had a ticket of any kind, and do not hate anyone, cop, or not. I have heard several cops say though that have a right to break the speed limit even when they are not responding to something because they have been properly trained in how to drive. I have no problem with a cop giving someone a ticket for speeding. I find it to be hypocritical though when you give you a ticket for 65 or 75, in a 55, then pull out squealing tires, throwing gravel, and run 65, or 75 themselves. 0 -

Not really. I got ticket 2 nights ago for not wearing my seat belt but I was able to joke with the cop because I was not obeying the law.
@0 years ago I would take the ticket to the magistrate and they would reduce it but not any more. Now I just write the check and send it in the mail.
I can't think of one time I got a ticket where I didn't deserve one.0 -

There is a distinct difference between a "Peace Officer" and a "Law Enforcement Officer".
LEO's, in general, are a pox upon society. Charging criminals under certain statutes is perfectly appropriate. I think we can all agree on that premise. However, the problem comes in when the legislatures begin passing "malum prohibitum" statutes.
The LEO eagerly goes forth and follows the "letter of the law", relating to these crimes. Therein is are biggest problem between police and the public.
The Peace Officer understands and respects his role in society. He clearly understands the difference between "malum prohibitum" and "malum in se" crimes. The "spirit of the law" rules, rather than the "letter of the law". Police actions are based on this understanding, rather than simply enforcing laws without regard for the "justness" of said law.
I count myself as a Peace Officer.[;)]

I have a close relative thats the policechief here in town.But it's not all that uncomplicated anyway...

(policedog like race of dogs ?)And that dog is normaly a nice dog,but when it sees mine it just attacks.Well to make the story short i kicked the monster dog around to keep it of my dog.A good kick between the the legs in the cheast and they just give up and puke.But i cant get the BOSS to sign a paper to rid the neighborhood of that maniac dog...
On the other side no police would ever think of bothering me.
But there's a lot of true to if you just treat them nicely they're just people doing their jobb allso.
And ofcourse one of the things a policeman have to do is to get the respect out of our young citisens...That makes their job easier for them later on.So affirmative they play it tough with the teenagers for a numbers of reasons.0 -

Hanging out in a gun shop every day means I get to be around a lot of officers. Not only are they just doing a job....but they are human beings with lives of their own. Financial mess, spouse issues, car problems, no time for what they want and bored out of thier minds half the time.
I can tell you that the personality of the officer may play a roll in what kind of experience you have....
BUT
YOUR attitude plays a bigger part in what happens than the officer.
If you say something crude to the officer you WILL get a ticket...
If you don't turn the radio down....you WILL get a ticket
If you snap you ID out and mumble while never looking at the officer...you WILL get a ticket
The people who I see bickering and complaining about the police usually seem to be the ones just BEGGING for a hard time. I had several tickets when I was younger and hadn't learned I can't get away with EVERYTHING...a lot of things....but not everything.0 -

LF, you are partly right, but only partly.
The ideal should be for the officer to have his mind made up, based on the observed violation, whether to warn or cite. It is not always possible to maintain this ideal, but I can count on one hand the number of violators I have cited because of their attitudes. There have also been a few who have managed to get a warning when my intention was to cite.0 -
Well, I'm of a split mind.
Logically, I am grateful for the service cops provide, and having only been pulled over once for doing 35 in a 25 and let off with a warning, I can't say that I've ever had reason to hate.
That said, nothing fries my bacon more than seeing a cop sitting there clocking folks with a radar gun. I can't help but think, hope you get cancer you pig. Because what does a radar gun do? It lets the cop pull over someone doing 72 in a 65. You can SEE if someone is speeding way over the limit, like 90 in a 65, or weaving, or whatever- the gun is just so the government can make sure it gets its fatter fee from you by calculating what speeding bracket you fall into.
Ever notice how when you see a cop, you think, "what am I doing wrong?" and really watch yourself? Not, "ah there is a trusted member of the community, watching out for my protection?" Why? Because as good of a job as cops do, there are just enough petty, macho, screwed up ones out there ot make you have to think that way.
In balance I think positively of our men in blue, but now and then I have paranoid rants. [;)]0 -
WV state troopers have a moto about giving speeding tickets "9 is fine but 10 your mine"...thats how far over the speed limit they tolerate. 0 -
Cops are people. If you meet ten random people nine will be nice, one will be a jerk. If you get pulled over by ten cops you'll probably experience a similiar ratio.
I've been driving for fifty years. Every single time I was pulled over I deserved it. Every cop was nice to me except one. I was nice every time and sometimes got off with a warning unless it was a cut and dried situation= passing on a solid yellow line, doing a rolling stop, ten over in a construction zone.
I know a lot of cops. They are hard working and underpaid. They do a tough job.
Like every body else in life; treat them with respect and you will usually get the same in return.0 -
As the son in law of a former trooper, I can tell you the young troopers today are of a different breed. The troopers of my father-in-laws days were more helpful and gave many more breaks. Seems they were more for giving you a good ass chewing when you screwed up, because they cared. They knew about everyone in their area as well. Many times my FIL would pull over a offender and take their license. He would keep it and have the offender meet him for coffee at the local resturant in the morning. The thing was, you had better be there and on time. He would even buy you a cup of coffee and commence to very tactifully chew your ass. When Johnny Law spoke, you listened. He was a great man.
The Troopers of today are eager to write you a citation, or throw you in jail. They don't care if they cause you alot of financial pain. When it comes time for their shift to end, their outta there. When they are scheduled to work holidays, many will call in sick. And you never see them out in the community getting to know the citizens in their area any more.0 -

I stopped at the local State Police Post yesterday. I had to interview a police officer for a class I'm taking and not use my own experience.
The trooper working desk had just gone to investigate a complaint and found nobody home. The place looked deserted. The trooper noticed a horse in a corral-all skin and bones with no food or water other than a mudhole. The trooper talked with neighbors and found out the guy was never around. Trooper called animal control to see if they could respond. Animal control would try to get there but no guarantee. Trooper and neighbor found some alfalfa outside the corral and tossed a couple of pitchforks full in for the horse to eat. A few hours later a call came in that the horse had died and the guy was going to sue the trooper because he believed the horse had been poisoned by the trooper.
Sometimes it's a thankless job.
Around here if that trooper kept a license to talk to someone later, the person would probably say the trooper stole it or wanted it for other "bad intentions". Or that the trooper wanted it to try to get a date with that person.
It's a different world these days.
You might be able to get by with that in a (very) small town where everyone knows the local police. Some folks would probably even appreciate that-but you would still need to be very careful.0 -

The above postings make me thankful that I live in a small, rural community. Folks here don't "hate the cops", because "the cops" are likely to be your cousin Timmy, or Frank, who you went to high school with- and the Sheriff is Mr. Jones, who went to High School with your dad. And yes, they know they are accountable to the community they serve. Does not mean you are not gonna get a ticket if you break the traffic laws. Does not mean you can steal from a neighbor, or beat the snot out of a family member. It does mean fair, impartial treatment. PS- out here, when need 'em and you call, they come. 0 -
