Cancelled my NRA membership today
OK, maybe this is getting beat to death, but they are one less in number today. I happen to have a family member that this might affect and I think this is a lousy way to treat a veteran. The NRA has seen it's last dime from me.

I am a life member, and I do not intend to cancel... I have however told them the last few times they called they will be getting no more donations until they actually defend the 2nd. They may not be the best organization, but they are better than nothing. I will not cancel my life membership, but at the same time the donations are on hold. I agree if more did the same then maybe they would might actually listen. They went from a true defender to a business who looks for profits and exorbitant salaries. They asked me to run for a local officer last year and I said no. I would not cancel basic memberships, but as far as extra donations I would recommend holding off. More or less I won't bash them, but at the same time I won't donate. We will have to wait and see how this new bill really shakes out in the longer run.... I won't pass judgment until I see how the law interprets it. 0 -

i will find out how this new law will affect people with PTSD in about 10 days. i have PTSD and am not a danger to anyone unless you break into my house or try to hurt a member of my, or your family. i have never been denied the purchase of a weapon and at one time had a FFL. i have a CCW permit and do carry a loaded weapon. at this time i am a member of the DAV,VVA,and the NRA. if i am denied buying a firearm after this bill becomes law, i will know who is to blame and will take peacefull action against the parties.
Again understand, I have NO desire to hurt anyone! Only to be left alone.0 -

I seem to remember 2 of our forum members out of a job.
I think WE have a job for them.
Figure if each of us sends them $10 a month they should have quite a bit of money to fight with and plenty of time since it will be their new fulltime job.

Basically it has turned its back on the average American gun owner. They have bowed down to politics and corporate pressures to adjust their original focus of protecting the 2nd amendment rights. They are now in my opinion just another of many pork barrel political action groups. They may be interested in the cause, but they need to make payroll first, so if that means if they have no more money for a certain project..too bad, baby's got have new shoes. 0 -

No offense, but there are already "viable" alternatives,......GOA, JPFO, etc.
You have no idea what it takes to do something like that, much less to be able to lobby.
It takes attorneys, and staff.
Starting a little "webpage" to gripe and complain, will do nothing.

Sure, they are NOT perfect, but they are the 800lb gorilla in the gun rights battle.
Lessening the power of the NRA is counterproductive to what you want to accomplish.
Poor choice IMHO.

This isn't the first time the NRA sold gun owners down the river. This IS the first time they sold vets like you so openly and blantently, down the river though. Even a blind man can see how FAR reaching this bill can be WHEN they choose it to. They may not start disarming folks RIGHT AWAY, but they WILL eventually.
This reminds me of the story posted awhile back. About the guy from Nazi Germany who said nothing when they passed more ristrictive laws, because it didn't affect him. Kept his mouth shut all along, until even HE was effected. What American ISN'T this way? We remain all too silent unless something DIRECTLY effects us. Even silent at those minor inconveniences like the NICS system, the machine gun ban, importation bans, ECT.
How much good has our silence/compliance done us? How much good has the NRA done for us lately? The time to either fight or become a complete slave is upon us folks. Better make your choice soon, as time is VERY short. Better make the proper preparations too. Your freedom and your very life MAY depend on it. Is THIS what we want to leave our children and grand children?0 -
Just as not everyone will vote against Hillary, not everyone will agree with my decision to drop the NRA. If they truly wanted to protect the second amendment, they would do so across the board and without compromise. I honestly think it is all about money and me and you don't mean a damn thing to them.
If you are really protecting the populations right to bear arms, it isn't just for some elite group, hand picked by God only knows who. When you start weeding out this group and that group, this weapon and that weapon, you are simply instituting gun banishment in a slow, steady trend. Think it won't happen? That I am sure has been said time again by people in many countries. The same folks who can no longer own guns.
That is what I see in all of this. The latest move on their part is just that. The latest of several blunders or blatant intentional actions to play both sides against the middle.0 -

I wish GOA would spend half as much time working for the 2A as they do busting the NRA's chops.
Don't take GOA's take of this bill as gospel. It reads more like knee-jerk reaction to the bill than an honest appraisal. This bill doesn't do what Pratt claims it does. People RULED BY A COURT OF LAW as a danger to self or others have been prohibited possessors SINCE 1968. This bill did not change that. Those adjudications follow a set of rules, and those rules HAVE NOT CHANGED SINCE 1968. A lone psychatrists opinion doesn't count without a judge's ruling. Self-referral for help doesn't count. Prescription antidepressants doesn't count. A diagnosis of PTSD doesn't count.
GOA as usual is using this as an oppurtunity to spin the the issue against the NRA. In fact that is all I have ever seen GOA do. They don't seem to fight for our rights. All they ever seem to do is fight against the NRA...0 -
