Cancelled my NRA membership today
OK, maybe this is getting beat to death, but they are one less in number today. I happen to have a family member that this might affect and I think this is a lousy way to treat a veteran. The NRA has seen it's last dime from me.

Don't take GOA's take of this bill as gospel. It reads more like knee-jerk reaction to the bill than an honest appraisal. This bill doesn't do what Pratt claims it does. People RULED BY A COURT OF LAW as a danger to self or others have been prohibited possessors SINCE 1968. This bill did not change that. Those adjudications follow a set of rules, and those rules HAVE NOT CHANGED SINCE 1968. A lone psychatrists opinion doesn't count without a judge's ruling. Self-referral for help doesn't count. Prescription antidepressants doesn't count. A diagnosis of PTSD doesn't count.
GOA as usual is using this as an oppurtunity to spin the the issue against the NRA. In fact that is all I have ever seen GOA do. They don't seem to fight for our rights. All they ever seem to do is fight against the NRA...

We all complain about many of the laws passed by Congress,....I agree.
I want the "smallest" government footprint possible, but if ever a law was needed,.....it is one to put a damn stop to these voice only votes, done in the middle of the night, or other times when very few of the dirtballs are around to show their faces.
This is how they get around the complaints,.......they simply say, "Oh my, I would never have voted for that bill, it was done without any knowledge on my part"!

I will be writing all of my Reps, and giving them all heck, regardless of how at least some usually line up on gun control.

The NRA is a danger to the RTKBA. If you are continuing to be supportive of them, in the face of years of evidence, you are one of the above, period.
Obviously, since you are "institutionally" involved in the gun-control organization that is the NRA, you will continue to cheerlead. Otherwise, you'd need to step up and admit the truth and that you have been duped for years.

The way I look at it is according to the Bill of Rights I have the right to Keep and Bear Arms! There are not statues or limitations in that Phase, just a right! It is not the "Bill of Privileges", but the "Bill of Rights"! I bear no membership to the NRA anymore or GOA , my membership lay with the Country in which this Bill of Rights represents! I will sway not to any organization that continually trash talks the other. No offense my brothers, I have your back to the end, as Gun Owners and Americans! These are troubling times and we should do what this Country was founded on, Standing United! In my opinion due to the lack of standing united, be it personal difference or else, people have parted ways with each other causing the many gun rights organizations instead of one, and the NRA being one of these has swayed into "Corporate" America and lost sight of the founding principles. We do not need to kill this sheep, but yet find it(NRA) and bring it back into the herd. As one we can defend ourselves against the wolf. I don't expect you all to agree with me because like I said this is my opinion, but if we are truely to make a difference, we must stand together! 0 -
Ok guys, I've certainly seen enough wildly negative energy about the NRA to know there are some strong opinions here. I don't have a dog in this fight but sure have interest in the TRUTH.
Can the one or two of you guys who are truly articulate give me a 2 cents worth, unemotional synopsis of WHY (no name calling please, just the facts) the NRA is so terrible.
I happen to agree with a couple of the posts who have said we surely need to keep our dirty laundry to ourselves and with all the enemies we have "outside" the gun owners circle, we don't need to fight each other. I just want to know what the NRA has done so wrong, other than piss you off.
Please, no tirade or flames, just the facts and let me (us) decide which is best for my "Protector of the 2nd Amendment". I'm all about joining the RIGHT org and putting my money where it will do the most good to fend off the Brady bunch and Michael Bloomhead but don't have a good view of history to know who's done the RIGHT things and the WRONG things in that regard.
Remember, you don't have to yell at me to get my attention, I don't have a dog in this fight, just want to know the simple truth.

what are you referring to, the last minute add-on by 2 leftist Dims that prohibited the sale of newly made MG's to civilians??
the Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986 was a great bill...true, the MG restrictions suck, but the benefits of the FOPA greatly outweigh the negatives of the bill.

If we didn't have the NRA we'd be in deep dodo. Mistakes are made that's true but it's also true that "if we don't hang together , we will surely hang seperately". Kick the NRA's ass but don't desert the cause. And if you feel GOA or the others are better , then use a little beer money to support them too. The only reason that the pols are in check is because they're in fear of what a campaign against them by the NRA specifically will do.
Fine, so here's my solution: get an ad hoc committee formed to confront the NRA. Stop griping and do something.
