When did you become Pro-gun ?
I was talking to a buddy of mine when the topics of guns came up. I was asked as to when was the first time that I realized I liked guns.
I had to think about this for a bit and then I realized. I was in high school in L.A. when I was assigned to do a report that was pro-gun(every student was assigned a different subject). Our sociology teacher asked me how I felt about guns, I said that guns were bad just seeing the shootings that had occured around the country in the 90's. So,he told me to do present a pro-gun report to the class while another student was to present an anti-gun report. The more I learned about the subject the more I realized I might be wrong about this. Once I turned 18 I went to the range on my own rented a gun and realized that guns aren't bad... matter of fact... I liked the experience..

I was born that way, as far back as I can remember life was all about Guns, Airplanes and Racecars. By the age of 4 or 5 my brother would call me a gunaholic, all I wanted to do was look at or read about guns. 0 -
Actually, somewhat similar to your experience, gonzo. I didn't have any contact with guns until I was 18, when a buddy took me shooting. My family didn't own anything more potent than a daisy pellet rifle, so I had to 'indoctrinate' myself into the gun culture.
Before that I would have described myself as fairly liberal. I viewed guns and gunowners negatively. I bought into Michael Moore's 'Bowling for Columbine' and 'Fahrenheit 9/11.'
After I went shooting, I got involved here on Gunbroker (where I purchased my first firearm, a Mosin 91/30). I lurked for a while on these forums, and my views subsequently started to shift more towards libertarianism.0 -
As soon as I understood what a gun I was hooked. Grew up out in the country, so I was able to shoot often with my Dad, Uncle or whoever was around. By the time I was 10, I was able to go shoot and hunt by myself.... 0 -
They were always in the house. Guns, that is, not inlaws[:D][:D]
While growing up, I never paid them any more mind on the wall then the lamp on the table in the corner. It just, well....was!!! Nowadays, I don't dwell on them. They just....."are".

I was always attracted to big boys' toys (cars, planes, guns, things that go kaboom, etc.) even when I was a little kid.
There was a short time (starting with 8th and ending at approximately 10th grade) when I was somewhat anti. Even then I was more pro-background check and against "assault weapons", which I was convinced were automatic rifles (thanks for the smoke up my butt media sisters) rather than in favor of getting rid of all guns. This was primarily because of all the school shootings and crap that were going on and the fact that I was not well educated on the subject.
My 11th grade I educated myself on the subject sufficiently to revert to my primal weapon-loving nature [:D]
Primarily I found out to great surprise that "assault weapons" were not full-auto guns but rather semis with cosmetic features [:D]0 -
When I was born. I grew up in a family of hunters. SHot my first .410 when I was 6, 12ga at 8, 30.06 at 10. just kinda snowballed from there.
it kinda went away for a while, but in the last 6 months, since i started shooting again, bought my first pistol, got 2 rifles, I got the gun bug again. Now I'm looking into reloading and nice .22 plinker....and a bigger house [:D]0 -

i started to like guns when i went to my friend matts house, his uncle was a POlice officer, now matt was a somewhat redneck, and his parents were total rednecks. His mom drove a 64 and a half mustang, and his dad drove a big dually truck. anyways his uncle came over, and with him he brought, 10mm glock, a .38 snub, and some kind of 30 ought 6 lever action. I shot the glock first, couldnt hit a pumpkin about 8-10 feet away. then went to the .38 snubby, hit a coffe can( by pure luck) about 6-8 feet away, and then i shot the 30/06, loved it! hit the target (50-60 feet away) a couple times. I would have to say i was 13-14, up until then, i never really thought much about guns. 0 -
I'll tell you the truth: I'm a latecomer to the gun scene. I went my first few decades not having one and pretty much believing that I didn't need one.
Fortunately nothing evil happened to me or my loved ones to change my mind. I just decided that guns were something I had yet to experience, so I went to a range, rented one, got basic safety tips from the range master, and had a blast.
And I haven't looked back since.[:D]0 -
The wife and I were looking through some old pics last week, and came across one of me when I was about 3-4 years old. I had a shiny pair of shooting irons strapped around my waist. So I imagine it was before that. Don't remember it, but I have it in black and white. [;)] 0 -
I think I always have been, although there were a period of about ten years when I was confused enough that I probably would have said not. Even during those ten years, I was intrigued by the guns. 0 -

Both parents were hunters and shooters.Guns were like tools around the ranch.Different tools for different jobs.I had cowboy guns as far back as I can remember,BB guns at 12, pellet guns at 14-15 shotgun and 22 at 16. Guns are a way of life, love em, use em, but dont abuse em.[;)] 0 -
When I realized there were anti-gun ppl didn't meet any till I was in my 20s 0 -
....I was way to young to remember. I know I was slapped across the deck and almost went over board when I picked up uncle Chris's gun without asking!
...He yelled "How in the hell am I going to spot the "New World" matey, if you keep acting out"???! First "real" gun, a Beretta shotgun when I was 5 years old...needless to say, my uncle did finally discover America...[;)]

I have always been pro gun as far back as my memory takes me.
It has always been guns, bikes, fireworks and motorcycles.
I tried gardening and put put golf and got bored real fast.
I was kicked of the football team when me and my friend rode our dirt bikes past the practice field on practice day. Oh well guess I am stuck with guns and bikes[^]0 -

Probably about 5-6 when I sat around talking to my uncles and grandfather who hunted. Unfortunately they all moved away and my grandfather passed away before I was old enough to hunt with them. Got myself into hunting around 19 I guess. 30 now and cannot wait to get my daughter and future kids into it. 0 -
Not until my mid 40s. I got into guns after 9/11. I had always been one of the lousiest shots in my reserve Seabee battalion and had never qualified. I thought it might be a good idea to learn how to shoot in case I was mobilized. I bought a $79.00 Russian 91/30. In order to shoot it I had to join the NRA and get into the local gun club. After that the hook was set. First high power rifle, than bullseye and practical pistol. Also bought quite a few milsurps.
When I finally did mobilize last year it was really nice to know that if I had to shoot I stood a good chance of hitting my target. I only went outside the wire a few times, but all the time and money I spent on firearms and at the range was well worth it. In the reserves we would only fire about forty rounds every other year. I got good enough on my own to be a range coach and was able to teach others. I'm a strong believer in leading from the front and that the higher you go the better you should be in all skills be they military or construction. (Too bad the rest of the navy does not share my view, but I digress....)
