Firearm phrases....part two (annoying)
...Since Doug started one with phrases that ring your bell, are there any that sound like fingernails on a blackboard or make you foam at the mouth? A few that I despise:
..."knockdown power"
..."point blank"...(usually misused)
...when referring to the powder charge igniting, calling it an "explosion," or worse, "detonation"

I remember selling a 25-05 encore to a redneck who would not shut up about how he was going to throw away the 25-06 bbl in favor of the .44 mags "knockdown"

"Tactical scope" or "tactical vest" or "tactical light" etc. Its used mostly to appeal to SWAT or military wannabes.0 -
People that call a "group" from a rifle a "pattern" drive me nuts.
Also; businesses and shooters that call a bullet a "tip" should not be allowed to have guns. (Pats Reloading)0 -

The term "gun" irritates me unless there's a "machine" placed immediatly in front of it. They're not "guns," they're "firearms" or "weapons." A "gun" is something that "tough guys" with "big" arms have and show off at every oppertunity. 0 -

The shooter in Idaho last night was described as a sniper and then after they stormed the building they said he was dead next to an Automatic Assault Rifle.
I guess to a news reporter a sniper rifle and Automatic assault Rifle are pretty much the same thing.0 -

You guys got some great ones.
"tactical" is probably the one that grates on me the most, but also the childlike names for manufacturers - "mossy", "winnie", "remmy" - and the list goes on and on.
Since there is so much "tactical" stuff, would someone send me a picture of, oh, say, a "Strategic" flashlight ??
