Firearm phrases....part two (annoying)
...Since Doug started one with phrases that ring your bell, are there any that sound like fingernails on a blackboard or make you foam at the mouth? A few that I despise:
..."knockdown power"
..."point blank"...(usually misused)
...when referring to the powder charge igniting, calling it an "explosion," or worse, "detonation"

You know, pickenup, normally I'd agree with you, but "assault" rifles do exist...just not in the civilian world. The M-4 Carbine (government/military) is an "assault" rifle.
However, I do agree with you that ARs and AKs that are here legally (or not) and are in the hands of non-government personnel do not classify as "assault" anything.
The only thing in that second case that "assaults" anything are the media reports on my eardrums.0 -

I think the term was derived in the prohibition era from the Gatling gun, just shortened to Gat...but the annoyance for me is hearing rappers refer to any handgun as their "gat"0 -
