On my third Dell. You have 21 days to return a Dell computer. You'll have to pay shipping. Call customer service (forget tech support) and have the computer returned and/or replaced.

General Customer Service Questions (please have your order number ready to reach an agent faster) 1-800-873-2244 Press 4 when prompted M - F 7AM - 9PM CST

I've had very few problems from the 40 or so I maintain at work. We used to buy HP's but they were always acting goofy and out of the 13 Gateways I bought I had 3 HDD failures during the warranty period. Great customer service though...... Also have 3 Dells at home none of which has given me any problems.

3 at our home office, 1 for home use and brother in law has a Dell laptop. No problems at all with them. Sounds like you got a lemon and a bunch of idiots on the delivery service end of it.

I have had 4 Dells now, and never a problem one. I do hear that their tech support is a nightmare, but I have never had to use it.
Take it for what it is worth,.......nothing! Maybe I have just been lucky, and the fact that I am fairly literate about computer issues.

that is the strangest story i've heard...

    quote:
Written in black marker on the inside bottom of the box is the message "this is a piece of crap".

you didn't take a picture of that did you by any chance? it'd be nice to circulate the whole story, assuming none of it is exaggerated, which i am sure is not. i myself have to deal with a lot of "customer service" and every time i do i get a feeling i am back in 1980's ussr. it relates to pretty much everything now days -- from grocery stores clerks to airline and airport workers to phone support to banks customer service... i guess the subject ejust deserves a new thread of its own, not trying to hijack. i hope you'll sort your problems with them out, next time try HP, they might be slightly more expensive but definitely better engineered (at least not the low end workstations) and definitely better support. or if you're not hung up on a windows box, get yourself a Mac, though i every now and then i do hear strange stories of Apple support, but never had a problem with them myself, so i just attribute it to whiny customers.

you can buy two identical dell pc's and both have different parts, they buy from the lowest bidder now, besides that, the biggest problem i see in a dell is their lack of proper cooling

it is not that dell is so good, it is just hard to build a pc now days that doesn't work well, here is what i built for a grand, read the specs

    http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=236974&SearchTerms=gaming,machine

    dells version for 5 grand

I would rather have my balls pounded flat with a wooden mallet than buy another Dell. The product is crap and the customer service is crap.

Post a link to the vid if you do the wooden mallet thing. [:D]
