If you got out for the cost of a watch, you done good. I count myself fortunate that I don't have to share my retirement account with anyone.

Compared to my divorce you did just fine. Go ahead and skip the I hate women phase and procede directly to the I love ANY woman besides the Ex-wife. Thinking back on the five years between my divorce and my marriage to the current (and final) Mrs K still brings a big ****-eating grin to my face [:p]. Those were good times indeed!

    Sounds like you did alright!

In a community property state you'd be wondering what hit you for the rest of your life!

    ... go out and celebrate!

You did good! Lick your wounds, Get your life in order, and play the game knowing what you know now. Thats what I did.

With respect nunn, it's not just any watch. It's a Rolex Submariner. Currently, they retail for at least $3k. That isn't exactly a Timex.

bpost, I'm sorry for your loss (of the Rolex). On the other hand, congrats on your freedom. When circumstances permit, you can get another Sub.

Glad to hear you came out of it pretty much in tact. Time to move forward and get the past out of your system.

You couldn't get a local divorce lawyer to pick up his
phone for $3K in this neighborhood - maybe lick a
stamp but certainly not pick up the phone!

Like ole David says, you in good shape.
Deal I made with mine years ago:
She got the house. It had a few payments left which I paid, and I gave it to her free and clear.

Yup, joint property state, I cudda had half, could sell out and split it, but I did a bit of thinking ahead, so made a deal with her. She could have it if she would sign a release from all future ownings and obligations.

At stake other than the house was half my military retirement, half my South Carolina Employee retirement, and according to her..Half my Social Security retirement. Not sure she could have done that last..

I signed over the house as a full settlement between us. That was in 1995. Half of my income since then would have bought three houses. But now she has a house and I have anything and everything I want, and a bulging savings account.

I live as I please, I just bought a $30,000 car and paid cash, got all them there guns that she hated, don't have to ask her for permission, no matter what I decide to do..I have no bills (I had many overwhelming me when we were together.) I own my own home..It's just a white trash trailer, but it's mine and paid for, and it's in the woods with 150 acres of land to hunt on. In fact I do my deer hunting out the living room window some times..

I am 100% free and clear of her, although I do still hear from her now and then..She's on man number thirty something and strill has the same problem she did with me..He works too much and doesn't give her enough attention. The one before had kids he liked to visit and didn't give her enough attention. The one before that had a motercycle and didn't give her enough attention..One before that was a cop and worked all the time, she didn't get enough attention.

The biggest problem she had with me..well..ok..I had kids from a previous marriage. I liked seeing them once a year during the summer when school was out..I didn't give her enough attention. In her words.." I expect to be NUmber One. I expect you to WORSHIP me. I was NOT number one. She's still having that same problem, poor girl..She is never "Number One."

Dammit..Been a long time since I let that dang cat out..Anyway bpost, congratulations!! You are reprieved, and I salute you.

I soon hope to escape and land as well as you have. But "Spud Central" Idaho is a community property state, I'll probably seek professional advice before jumping ship

Congrats my good man!!!!!![8D] Now, keep on your toes for when that property comes up for sale so you can get it back and pee her off even more. From your previous post, that shouldn't be too long.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for a Submariner at a reasonable cost (I have connections[8D]) and I'll make you a deal if you put it to me in your will seing as how you are way older than me.[:0]
Enjoy your new found freedom and don't make the mistake of gettin' married again.[B)]

That is a DEAL! However; I don't believe marriage is such a bad thing.

I want to be a good husband and an understanding partner until death do us part in marriage. Since she can't see past tomorrow that dream became impossible with her. She wanted this divorce, not me. She can't find happiness in anything for long it is her Achillies heel.

Someday she will look back and see that throwing away the man that she admits treats her "very, very well" was not a good idea. Her selfish ways will cause her a lonley old age. For that, I am sad.

I used to wake up in the morning of thinking of how I could make her happier or make her day better. That commitment and concern was not returned at all; the kindness was taken for granted; it was one way. For that I feel cheated out of a marriage.

    So as the wise man says;

    NEXT!!!! [:D]

    Me too.

My happiness will be that I don't intend to tell her why she lost me. I'll just let her move on to the next guy and treat him like she treats me. Maybe he will tell her, as he exits the door.

I got divorced in Texas after I retired from the Air Force. She got half the paid for house and half my AF retirement FOR LIFE. Cry me a river about that cheep a$$ Rolex. $500 a month for almost 20 years now. That would have bought a lot of toys. Tom

Here's mine: wife ran off with another guy, left me with two adolescent daughters - kids wanted me to go out and "still" the new boyfriend- of course I didn't. Bitch threatened me with a bunch of crap - I responded by getting a CCW permit and a lawyer. State of PA granted her "alimony pendente lite", she got 40% of my take home pay for two years (cost me 1800 bucks a month) I almost went bankrupt, twice, raising the kids and putting them through school, etc. She moved in with her boyfriend and they lived off my earnings. After her lawyer stalled for months on end, finally got a "no fault" divorce decree, it cost me another 75,000 bucks to settle, but I got my freedom, kept the house, supported the kids, didn't lose pension or 401K funds in the future - she got a free ride - God da.. liberals in Pennsylvania really put the screws to the men who didn't deserve to get screwed - but, hey, they bought a bunch of votes with the new laws. All, in all, I found a new, wonderful woman (after about 6 years), who actually shares my interests, loves my kids and finds me to be "wonderful" - kids have grown up, are self-sufficient, with a little help from dad, nothing from mom - grandkids are wonderful - it cost me a small fortune but its probably the best thing that could have happened. Don't make the same mistake I did (and probably 1000s of other men in the same situation), don't sit around for any time (I spent 6 years alone, with the bottle) before you start out anew. I'm HAPPY, now and best of all, she's NOT! Boyfriend turned out to be a real head case!
