Any Making Fun of Your Gun At The Range?
Just read this thread on another forum - and there was a surprising 5 pages of
stories supporting taunting experiences!
Ever have someone make fun of your guns at the range?
I went to a local outdoor range that was having a bowling pin shoot. The range is at a gun shop I was at to buy some powder, bullets and primers. The owner invited me to shoot with them last sunday.
By the time I left I felt humiliated because of the rude remarks that were made about my Ruger Gp100 and my friends Taurus. We probably will never go back. Everyone there was shooting S&W revolvers and the owner of the gun shop there is a staunch S&W shooter and armoror. I own some S&W, but my Ruger just shoots better for me and I shot pretty well that day, considering I did not have the gun everybody thought I should have. No wonder I have always been a loner when it comes to shooting. Just me and a friend or two is good enough for me after this catastrophe.

The only Pistol I own is a Sig Sauer p226 so no on that account. I also am a Ruger fan and would not go back either. Nobody will say anything bad about the Ruger rifles. 0 -
Just come up with a pre-determined response to such comments, such as "I haven't bought an S&W since Dennis Wesson (make up any relevent sounding name) got busted burning a flag at the (make up any city) (make up any controversial event i.e gay-pride) rally."
That will at least shut them up until you finish shooting, and will cause them hours trying to find out if it's true [:D]0 -
I used to shoot at an indoor range sometimes. I was shooting my EAA witness EA9 and there was a couple of contractors making fun of it. I proceeded to win about $400.00 off of them after they bet they could shoot better. I paid for most of my guns bought while I was in college with earnings from a group of these fine gentlemen. Lost sometimes bought not to often. 0 -
No one has made fun of my guns, but when i show up with the AK at the range, and im surrounded by 5-6 guys shooting AR's, i get dirty looks... 0 -
If someone started making fun of my guns, I'd tell them to shut up and go bother someone else.
Can't believe how stupid someone would be to antagonize someone who is armed and who, if they were just a tad nuts, could turn the situation disastrous.0 -
Never had it happen or seen it happen at the range. I've seen plenty of it at gunshows though. What else can you do but laugh when someone wants retail for a used Bryco, Jennings, Raven, or Lorcin?[:D] 0 -
Sometimes the fellers make fun of my Webley-Vickers .50-80 because of the strange "ta-pock-et-a, pock-et-a" sound it makes when firing. 0 -
Easiest way to shut em' up is to OUT SHOOT them.
(What happened to the 1911A1 being the handgun of choise for PINS? I know there is a revolver class, but this story sounds like a bunch of yahoos just shooting pins - NOT a PIN Shoot)0 -
No one has ever made fun of me because I'll shoot them. OK, I'm lying! [:D] 0 -
cyclonos posts on another forum also? 0 -
I only know of one gun I would make fun of..
There were a thread about which guns people hated the most or something like that - and one really hated that 1911 he bought recently.
Reason was, when he was firing it for the first time, it went fullauto on him. That wasn't the half of it.
There were also three ATF agents on the range who really wanted a talk with him after witnessing that.
Otherwise - no - never had anyone directly make fun of my guns, and try hard not to do that myself either.0 -

[8D]-One time in Richmond, some "young" dudes were making fun of my Ruger MK11--"a wuss gun"---
--When they turned around to laugh and prep their SIGs--
--I touched off 5 quick S&W 500 rounds--they didn't laugh anymore and weren't happy with their cheap ear muffs--

you are what you buy.

an idiot with a cheap gun is comedy.
an idiot with a nice gun is comedy.
a crack shot with a cheap gun is remarkable.
a crack shot with an exceptional gun is legendary.[;)]0 -

Well I suppose that, if I ever went to a public range, some idiot would make fun of my Smith and Wesson Model 1 1/2 in .32 rimfier[:D][:D][:D][:D]

(Got a point there - I know I would!)

About 10 years ago I worked as a range officer (ie brass monkey) at an indoor range in Denver. I always carried my S&W 19 .357, medium frame with short barrel. When I started almost every guy that came in would see that Smith on my hip and make some comment about my cute little gun. After a couple of weeks I was starting to get sick of it and started to give as good as I was getting. It didn't take long before this exceptionally arrogant LEO told me to shut up or put some money down on who was the better shot. I'm not sure why I never thought of that but after I took his money, and some more of his money the next day after he came back to try again, I started pushing all the guys who made fun of my Smith to put money on the table. It didn't take very long to quiet the regulars. Over the next year I must have taken cash from close to 100 guys. 0 -
Yeah, I have had it happen a couple of times. The taunters are usually the type that go out and shoot their guns once a year and when they miss something during hunting season "It's the guns fault." A few years ago(while I was still in high school) me and my shooting buddy went out to the local range and were rapping off a few rounds when another guy pulled up and asked if he could shoot next to us. I had my Ruger M77 Ultralight in .308 which was my only rifle I had at the time. He immediately pulled out his Sako Deluxe in .300 Win mag and began cutting on my rifle and everything else about me an my friend. He cut on the following: My "whimpy little barrel", "Ruger's can't hit crap", "You don't even have a bore sighter?"
By this time I(who am normally a calm person) was really irritated. We kept quite and let him rap off a few rounds and then he looks over at us and smiles. I then fired three rounds out of my piece of junk Ruger with my whimpy little barrel and smiled back at him. I let my friend look through the scope and we then packed up and left without saying a word to the man. I wanted to let him compare the groups himself[:D][:p][;)].
I think that it is very unfortunate that there are people like this. Yes, that Sako he had was very nice, but not everybody can afford one of them, ecspecially someone who is in high school.

[8D]-My last comment--
--NOBODY LAUGHS AT MY WEATHERBYs---

Still laughing at your first statement - remininscence. I made a lady almost jump over the divider when I touched off a beefy reloaded S&W .50 - last time I ever did that again at the range without warning those next to me.
Funny thing is, I have a LARS .45 Rem. Mag. but it's never had that effect of close collateral damage! A mere .05 seems to make the difference.

Had a couple of guys tease me about my Ruger Compact 77. They said it looked like a girl gun. They were both shooting 91/2lb Mausers. I explained I used it to lighten my load when hiking in to the backcountry while hunting. They backed off and "approved" of my rifle.[:)] 0
