Any Making Fun of Your Gun At The Range?
Just read this thread on another forum - and there was a surprising 5 pages of
stories supporting taunting experiences!
Ever have someone make fun of your guns at the range?
I went to a local outdoor range that was having a bowling pin shoot. The range is at a gun shop I was at to buy some powder, bullets and primers. The owner invited me to shoot with them last sunday.
By the time I left I felt humiliated because of the rude remarks that were made about my Ruger Gp100 and my friends Taurus. We probably will never go back. Everyone there was shooting S&W revolvers and the owner of the gun shop there is a staunch S&W shooter and armoror. I own some S&W, but my Ruger just shoots better for me and I shot pretty well that day, considering I did not have the gun everybody thought I should have. No wonder I have always been a loner when it comes to shooting. Just me and a friend or two is good enough for me after this catastrophe.

Had an old single shot sears 12 gauge with a full choked 30" barrel that I used only for long range turkey shoots. They put a four inch target at 40 yds and the closest pellet to the dead center x wins a turkey or ham or slab of bacon. This gun had an unusual quirk in that it would shoot an erratic pattern except for about 8-10 pellets would always group tight together high and to the left. Also, when you shot it the forearm would fall off and then the barrel would follow until you were standing there holding a buttstock in your hand. When I first went to a shoot with that old gun the other shooters with their $1200-$1500 custom sleeved turkey guns laughed at me. After I shot my first round and it apeared I'd missed the entire target low and right, then my gun fell apart at the line some of those guys got teary eyed they felt so sorry for me spending what must be my last few dollars trying to win some meat for my family.Me bending down with all the dignity I could muster to retrieve my barrel and forearm from the dirt before leaving the line. When the targets came in every one had scatters of pellet holes all over except one that had what looked like a 38 caliber hole clean through the x and not another pellet hole in the whole target. That was my target. After three more rounds I had three turkeys and a five lb slab of bacon and those guys where pissed off something fierce. They called "improper gun" and had the judges inspect my $20 single shot for an over choked bore or back-boring. Judge said, " nope it's just a piece of crap sears single." By the end of the 12 rounds I had won 7 and was selling turkeys and hams to these guys so they could lie to their wives when they got home. Doesn't matter what kind of gun you have. What matters is that you know what it can do and what you can do with it. 0 -
Yep. Youngsters with shiny new Rugers and Marlins and Winchesters thought my old bolt action 22 was kinda funny. Mossberg M 44. Asked if they would like to make the 100 yd competition a little interesting- say, $10 each for best 5 rounds?[:p] 0 -
