Anyone ever find a gun?
We bought 2.5 acres in October and on this land is an old chicken coop,My son ventured inside it and found an old stevens .22 weirdest gun i ever seen its bolt action,but has a tube under the barrel like a semi auto marlin model 60 does there was no stock on this gun but after half a can of WD 40 we got it limbered up enough to work the bolt might try some blanks in it tomorrow. anyone else ever find a gun?

Well, I have no experience with such occurrences, my father does. When my father was about 10 or so, he was up on the roof of his house, cleaning out the gutters. Hidden away in a little notch in the awkwardly-designed roof was a rusted-out pistol. Being a "good little fellow" at the time, my father trotted off to the police station and handed it over then and there. (Imagine a little 10-year-old kid waltzing into a police station toting a handgun - a bit of a shocking sight...) What followed was a bit of an investigation from the local police, trying to figure out how the gun got there, whether it had any connections to any crimes, etc. Though, in the end, no information of interest turned up for the police, so the cops left my father and his family alone. 0 -
at eight or so I found a Raven .25, a little silver deal with white grips. My stepfather took it down to the police station. They gave it back, nobody wanted the damn thing. They are the best pistol ever made you know... 0 -

I found one under my Christmas tree, but the girlfriend won't let me open it.[:D] I have an idea of what it is, but I guess I am not 100% sure.
In all seriousness though, I have never found a gun.

When I was a kid, a friend and I were playing under a creek bridge. We saw a gunny sack which appeared to have some pipes sticking out of it in a pile of dumped trash. It was two model 1887 Winchester shotguns and two model 1906 Winchester .22s and a bunch of personal papers. It was from a gun shop robbery. Being the good kids we were, we returned the property. The old gun smith was so happy he gave us each one half a box of .410 shells. I think about those guns occasionally. 0 -
While removing a railroad crossing in Denison Iowa, I found a 12 ga. sawed off single shot shotgun. Who knows how long it had been there. Took it to the sheriff and he let me keep it. Yes, it would be AOW, but it's so rusted that you could never shoot it again, or even close it for that matter.

went to a local outdoor uncontrolled gravel pit shooting range (you know the ones I mean), pulled in and lo and behold a Ruger BlackHawk in .357 laying there on the ground. About 3 minutes later a car comes sliding into the pit, guy jumps out looking frantic and asked me if I had seen it, he described it perfectly so I gave it back. I am glad I am honest even though that was a time when gun registration didn't exist in that area and I could have had a new gun if I had been less honest. 0 -
About 45 or so years ago I found a sawed-off 12 ga double barreled shotgun near a construction pond. Barrel and stock were both cut down to about 1.5 feet or so, very short and the grip was heavily taped. It had "rabbit ears" and when I cocked it, in stead of having a firing pin, the hole was drilled out and there were 2 flat head roofing nails shaved down that fit in.
I fired it a few times and then turned it over to my dad as a "NEW" find and he gave it to my uncle, THE police chief of our county. Never heard another word.0 -
I found a Raven .25 in an old pickup truck under the seat with all sorts of junk with it. The slide was gone. I showed it to my dad and he turned it in to the Police.
That was about 12 years ago.0 -
Several years ago, a friend of mine was plowing a field with a chisel plow. These plows reach about 2 feet deep and burst up the sub-soil so roots and water can reach a greater depth.
His plowing brought a shotgun to the surface. He asked around, and ended up his grandfather recalled just such a missing shotgun from a murder that had occurred fifty years or so earlier.
You'd think that an object thrown into a field would more or less stay on top of the ground. But apparently, things have a tendency to go underground when left alone, or to farming implements.

No, but a buddy of mine's dad was walking his dog a few weeks ago and came upon a nice RIA .45 lying on the ground at the side of the road in the rain. He turned it in to the cops- turned out it had been both stolen and used in a crime. Hope the original owner gets it back in the end. 0 -
When i was 11 i found a colt slide action rifle in my grandmothers old coal bin just playing. No one knew where the rifle came from . i think she gave it to a handy man that wanted. 0 -

I found one in Alaska once, but it wasn't alone. Under a rock shelf, almost a cave. It was with a human skeleton, which I took to be an Eskimo burial, and I left it alone. It was a small rifle of some sort, all the wood was gone and the metal was solid rust. 0 -

When I was 24 I was the scuba diver for a marina at Lake Powell in Utah. On a dive under the docks looking for a dropped hammer I found, a pair of binoculars(cheap), a fishing pole, a pair of crutches and a nickle plated Smith & Wesson model 29 44 magnum with a five inch barrel. ( it was supposed to be a rare model) I took my lunch break, took the pistol home and cleaned it up. It was in good shape. Word got around as to what Id found and National Park Service found a report on the missing handgun. It seems one of our customers couldnt find his pistol when he got home and assumed it was the splash he heard when unloading his houseboat. He mailed in a report got the pistol back and sent me a $50.00 reward. I went right out and bought a S&W 629 that I still have. 0 -
Found what I think is a 5 shot Iver Johnson about ten feet from my grandparents front porch years ago. Looked like it had been there for at least half a century. No one knew where it came from and my family has owned that land since 1860. 0 -

Does the tube move rearwards when the bolt is retracted? If so it's a model 66.
I found one once. Worked at garbage incineration plant back in my 20's. Found a sawed off single shot 12 ga. minus the forearm stock. It worked too.
Got nervous about owing it as this was during my "party" days when had wild parties that occasionally attracted police attention. So I destroyed the barrel. Later sold the rest to a parts vendor at a gunshow.0 -
Yes... Fond 2 - When I was a kid in Houston in the 50's I found a .22 rolling block with a short barrel and no wood. In a ditch on my way to school a pretty rusted... Kept it for years but lost track of it when we moved. The other when I was in the AF in Germany in the mid 60's.. was out hiking in the woods near Bitburg near the Luxembourg border. Found a VERY rusty StGw44 machine pistol, just the metal parts... stock and grips had disappeared. Kept that one but left it in my locker with other junk when I came back to the world. Kinda wish I had kept it even though it was pretty much a solid chunk of rust. [:D] 0 -
I suppose finding a Chinese copy (K-50?) of a Ppsh-41 in a rice paddy doesn't count. I often dream of finding a gun somewhere, but no such luck. 0 -

When I was 12, my father found a ruger 10-22 in the middle of the highway a couple hours from the city we lived in. He brought it home and gave it to me. It was my first firearm and I have it today 35 years later. 0
