Brokeback Mountain shown in 8th grade class

Okay, that's not a good movie to show to an 8th grade class. But, c'mon...psychological distress. Gimme a break! 0 -
Nothing I'd let my 13 year old daughter watch. I suppose it would gross her out but, not traumatize her. 0 -
i find the ideal of it traumatizing, Hollywood should be sued for producing such garbage 0 -
I am thinking the parents were outraged that their child would be exposed to the gay agenda in the form of a pro-homo movie. And so the only way those parents could cause some problems for the pro-homo person who chose to subject their child to this pro-homo propaganda was to proceed as they did.
If this is true, then I am on their side. But if indeed they really are willingly using that "psychological distress" for their 12 year old as the only reason for their lawsuit, then I am not much in favor of frivolus lawsuits.0 -
I am so VERY glad that my kids go to the little one-horse town school that I also graduated from....I am 100% POSITIVE that they will never show THAT movie in our school!!!
Well...99% positive...we did have a lady sneak all the way through the school board process to have the school prayer taken away. I was in shock to have found this out recently. I bet she is being treated like a princess by everyone in our little town because of what she did.0 -

yep, i'm getting sick of them forcing this crap on everyone, i don't care if they want to do it, but don't force it on us0 -
Of course the actual article which is linked states "Chicago Board of Ed Sued for Teacher Allegedly Showing 'Brokeback Mountain' in Class". The word allegedly was omitted from the title of the post, no doubt to get the proper (and expected) GB reaction. It is easy to understand how this happens, after all there were allegedly WMD in Iraq, no one has found them yet, but it is believed (by most) here as fact. 0 -
Ok, beyond her psychological distress, what educational purpose did this movie serve? I haven't watched it and don't plan to. 0 -

The article used allegedly just because there is a lawsuit and the lawsuit has not been settled. The movie was shown.0 -
Not appropriate for kids. I took my wife to a B&B for our anniversary and they had a DVD library. We watched it and it was horrible. You could take the "Butt Pirate" part out of it and was still a horrible movie. No plot, no story, no acting. It was the worst movie ever. I don't see how it won all the acclaim and awards (actually I do). If my daughter was ever shown that movie I would be upset too. What is the educational benefit?. None. Nada. Just more of the liberal crap being shoved down our throats. 0 -
"...shoved down our throats."
I have had no desire to see the flic, and if it was shown in school in our little one horse town, someone would be swinging from a lamppost.
My understanding is that it is not even in good taste for an adult audience.

Sounds like a frivolous lawsuit if I ever heard of one.
Kenneth and LaVerne Richardson have already sued the Chicago school board over what was in the school library and now they're suing over what was shown in class.
They're looking for a payout and probably couldn't be happier that this was shown. Hell, they'd probably have sued if "Roots" ("insidious black agenda"), "Schindler's List" ("insidious Jew agenda"), "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" ("insidious Chinese agenda"), or "Lonesome Dove" (insidious Robert Duvall agenda") had been shown.[xx(]0 -

Tell me, oh good Christian folk of gunbroker, just where in the New testament does Jesus address the issue of homosexuality? It's funny how you guys cling to that one little sentence in Leviticus and yet ignore all the other "inconvienent" laws of the Old testament. So you guys hate gays, just like the Bible tells you to, do you also adhere to the dietary laws spelled out in the Old testament? What abou the prohibition against tattoos? What about the animal sacrafices and purification rituals that must be performed after every woman's menstrual cycle and every man's seminal ejaculations? You guys must be bad Christians if you don't obey those laws.
I was taught that the Old testament laws don't apply to Christians, that Jesus' death and resurrection invalidated the Old Covenant and created a new Covenant, and that the only stuff that applied to Christians was the stuff specifically mentioned by Jesus in the New testament. The Old testament does not apply to modern times, neither does the prohibition against homosexuality. Find me something in the New testament to support this hatred of gay people, otherwise all you are stuck with is 3000 year old Jewish law that even modern Jews don't follow anymore (gays serve openly in the Israeli military and Israel recognizes foreign gay marriages as valid in Israel).0 -
Do I have to have a biblical agenda to detest homosexual activity ??

Nope, but as warriorsfan has pointed out, you now have one less excuse for your bigotry.[;)]0 -
heck, I had to watch childbirth in 6th grade "birds and the bees class". I think I was sick all weeekend. 0 -
idsman,
I felt the same way after watching "Cyborg" with Jean Claude Van Damme in my high school calculus class (gotta love subs). That heavy wooden acting didn't sit too well with me.[xx(][;)][:D]0 -
we get presented with an article for our review, and response, then get ridiculed for our opinion

never ever did the bush administration use the term "alleged", only until we went into Iraq did the media use this term, and even if the bush admin did use the term, it does not discredited it in the future from now on

not a believer here but still don't want it forced on me, your response is a horrible excuse for justifying homosexuality though, throw out half the bible to suit your needs, then accuse others of doing the same, how lame, i guess this is how people justify pedophilia, and bestiality

this is like using "the race card"
big difference of this being shown in a classroom vs. a theater, in a theater you can get up and leave, children in school lack this opportunity0 -

Answer:
When he speaks to a woman caught up in another sexual sin and clearly, simply, positively, tells her to "go and sin no more". Homosexuality is clearly a sin to practicing Christians. It will not, nor should not be accepted any more than Pedophilia, Adultery, or Murder. The admonition from Jesus is to stop it, seek forgiveness and not do it anymore. Same advise goes for us all in whatever foul practice we find ourselves in.0 -

Knowledge of Sin can lead to Sin and some sins are so sick that they do not even warrant discussion. and these were dangerous times too as Jesus' ForeRunner John did lose his head for pointing out sexual immorality.0 -
Public schools pushing the gay agenda. The children may not experience psycological harm from seeing this depraved behavior, but I'm sure they were atleast revolted and sickened by the display. 0 -

Hehe...
Psychological distress...
When you think about it - how different is it to look at two guys kissing - than to look at two girls kissing ?!?
I know girls do that a lot - in school.
But yes, I agree - it's mildly disturbing to see two guys kissing, whereas I don't mind to look at two gal's kissing..
Weird.... but is there a difference ?
It's homo-behavior in any case.0 -

EMM:
I really hate it when you wind up bloody every time you try to use logic on people blinded by bigotry, intolerance and hatred. Jesus came to supplant the law. He whittled Ten Commandments down to only two 1) love the Lord thy God with all.......2) the second is like unto it, love thy neighbor as thy self......
I see little neighborly love in this blog. Who is thy neighbor? EMM?
Tall Charlie? Me? Answer: our fellow man (gender not intended) Every time this kind of crap comes up I play my soundtrack from "The Man From LaMacha." and gaze at the plaque an old friend gave me long ago.
ILLEGITIMUS NON CARBORUNDUM.

i've never watched the movie and never plan to so i wouldn't know how bad it is but from what i've read here it is not appropriate for school 0 -
I think the main problem with it, is that it is an R rated movie and there was no permission given by the parents to watch an R rated movie. Kids this age aren't even supposed to be able to get in to see an R rated movie at the theater without adult supervision. I know the theaters around here card kids. So why is a teacher allowed to show it in school? 0
