Ted Nugent
Saw on the news where he's had four(or so)concerts cancelled here in the northwest, and at least one in Texas. These are all at indian owned casinos. According to the news, he's been running around dissin' the red man. Anybody else heard that?

Wow! What's going on with old Ted? Saw him yesterday on the Outdoor Channel. He was being his usual "mystical Ted", but seems like he is becoming even more "off the wall' than he was before. Hasn't he been made spokesman for some company or something? Ted, get a grip! Sheesh!

I sent an e-mail to Uncle Ted through his web site asking if he could explain his skipping out on the draft and the Vietnam War. Here is the response I got....
We hope to have a statement from Ted soon. He is currently on concert tour & media blitz. Next week filming hunt for his tv show.

Who's "Bill Klintler?" If you mean Bill Clinton, I know he skipped out on the draft and why he did it. And frankly I hold him in the same regard I do anyone who skipped out on it. I think they are the lowest of low-lifes and should have their citizenship stripped.

There are MANY MANY reports out there that detail what he did to get out of being drafted. By 1970, when they began trying to draft me to go to Vietnam, it was obvious that the war was lost, moreover, we had no business being in Vietnam in the first place.
This made it very similar to the Iraq War right now.
There was no way I was going to go over there and kill people, just because Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon had screwed up.
I took the measures that I needed to take to stay out of Vietnam, and so did everybody I knew who had any sense.
Great War Leader George Bush was a draft dodger, just like Dan Quayle. Their political influence got them into the National Guard, and the word was out that NO guardsmen were going to 'Nam.
Great Iraq War Advocate Dick Cheney dodged the draft, he got something like 5 deferments, I heard him say that "I had better things to do."0 -
I hear this National Guard thing often.
Quite a few thousand NGs were killed in VietNam.
I have had many opinions regarding this VN deal over the years, having been just a little pup while it was going on.
Firstly, a Draft, compulsory military service, is the ultimate form of slavery and a nauseating slap in the face to Liberty and Freedom.
Were the cause a just one, and were it not micromanaged by those twin jerkoffs of Socialism, LBJ and MacNamara, and was fought TO WIN, I may have developed a different attitude.
However, having spent a couple decades researching VN and the futility of fighting (AS WE ARE NOW) a war "Blindfolded, with one hand tied behind our backs."
Happily, the days of Socialist Demokommie Presidents using our young people as involuntary cannon fodder is gone. It has been replaced by an "all volunteer" group of men used by Neo-Con president as IED fodder. Sad.
But the Warfighters I speak with and observe, BELIEVE in the mission. Tough to find any believers in VN these days. Even from guys who were there.

I'm curious about something, and I ask this in all honesty. Is it that they tried to get out of the draft, or that they didn't volunteer for service? Must someone actually serve in order to earn your respect? What if someone served, but lead a horrible post-military life? If it "[d]oesn't matter what he is doing today," does that go both ways?0 -
Comparing someone who didn't want to be used as cannon fodder by Socialist LBJ in a war that he didn't want to actually WIN, to Fonda and Klintler, both of whom ACTIVELY PROtestED THE WAR ON FORIEGN SOIL, is disingenuous at best.
Dodging the modern equivalent of Involuntary Servitude and giving Aid and Comfort to the Enemy are vastly different concepts.
But I'll let you think there's some moral equivalence. I'm sure it makes you feel better.

It doesn't bother if someone doesn't volunteer. It doesn't bother me if someone used a legitimate deferment to not be drafted. My dad was deferred because he was in school and had a family. He didn't apply for the deferrment, it was granted to him by his draft board. What bothers me is when someone "plays the system" and tried to weasel out of going. According to EVERY report out there, that is what Nugent did. I mean, when you crap and pee in your pants for a solid week before reporting...AND he continued touring before and after his charade. I just think it is total hypocrisy for him to do what he did, say what he said, and then today be the total opposite. I am glad he supports the troops today, but he sure didn't when he had the chance to REALLY be with them. What really burns me is the way most, not all, but most gun owners worship the ground Ted walks on, but they burn Clinton and Bush and others for doing basically the same thing. At least Clinton was in school and Bush did join the guard. They didn't "play" crazy to get out of serving.0 -

I'm not defending the man. I'm simply stating that you can't judge someone as acting when they're hopped up on mind-altering substances.0 -

Guardsmen may have been killed early on. But, by '69 when I began taking a very personal interest in the war, National Guardsmen were no longer being sent to Vietnam.
This made the Guard a perfect out for some guys. They could join the guard, and make a pretense of "supporting the military," but know that they were not going to fight. Naturally competition for Guard slots was intense, and it got to where if you didn't have political connections, you could not get into the National Guard.
Bush's dad was a congressman, and his grandfather was a U.S. Senator from Connecticut.
Quayle was from a very rich and powerful family in the midwest.
I am no admirer of Bill Clinton. But, at least on this issue, he was honest. He opposed the war during the sixties, and he demonstrated against it, and he still says that he thinks the war was a mistake.
I detest the hypocrisy of a George Bush or a Dan Quayle, to claim that they supported the war when they were in fact draft dodgers.
And for Bush and Cheney to now send young men to die in a war, when they bent over backwards to avoid going to war, what a pair of hypocrites.0 -

There's a book at the library I read called Blood Stripes, about Marine NCO's in Iraq. It documents a USO show that the Nuge and Toby Keith did for the Marines, and one Marine asked Uncle Ted how come he evaded the draft, and how he did it. Nuge claimed that he ate very unhealthy for a couple months before his physical, basically was a total couch potato, and spent most of his time in a darkened room. 0 -
