Dawnie Shot A Skunk!
I was inside, and she came in and said there is a skunk in what we call "the pasture." I grabbed up a shotgun, and she got her Chief Special out of her car.
We went out and found the skunk, a big pretty one. Only it didn't act like a skunk. It was about 20 feet away, and when it saw us, it adopted an aggressive posture, tail up and bushed out, head down, front legs spread wide, but it didn't try to spray. Then, it charged with its mouth open.
I fired once with the shotgun, and stopped it, but it didn't fall over, so Dawnie shot it once with her .38 and it fell.

Here is the carcass.
We were concerned that, with its unusual behavior, it might be rabid, so Dawnie called the local S.O. but was told if the skunk hadn't bitten any person or pet, no one would be coming for its head. I reckon I will move it to a brush pile and burn it.

What sort of disease-carrying varmints to you have in the islands?
Which islands?
West Indies.
1. Mongooses, or is it mongeese?
2. Chupacabras.
3. Politicos corruptos.

It seems that both the coyote and the skunk were not acting normal. I understand that it is possible to test for rabies if the dead animal's head is available. I noticed that your picture of the skunk is minus the head. Did you get either tested? If you have a rabies epidemic it would be good to give the neighbors a heads up. 0 -
We called the Sheriff's office, but since the skunk didn't bite anyone or any pet, no one would be coming for its head. That's why I put it in the middle of a brush pile to be burned.
Our procedure is similar in the city. We just kill them, and we don't test unless there is a bite.0 -

By the way, boys...While we were out there, Dawnie showed me where she was standing and where the coyote was when she shot it. I measured it off. It was 33 yards. Not bad.
I waited until the skunk had plenty of time to empty its scent sac, and picked it up and tossed in on a brush pile to be burned. Dawnie shot this picture. It was a pretty big skunk, and weighed as much as a large house cat.
OH MY GAWD! Nunn, what have you done to my missing house cat? I hope my little grandson doesn't stumble across this photo.0 -
