How many donate blood?
Just out of curiosity. I started doing it this year and I'm going to be doing it this Monday. I feel it's a good idea, one service that's easy and can save a life. I'm sure there are all kinds of opinions out there, but I think it's a good thing.

I used too. But now I believe I am takeing too much medications for them to accept me to donate. I would need to look into it. 0 -

I didn't think of that. It was before Desert Storm since I did donate blood, so I might have that aspect of it too.0 -

I used to donate regularly. But, then one day in '80, my doc came in and told me that I was just too sweet to do that anymore.......diabetes. It's been downhill ever since then. [:(][:(]

I donated for over 35 years. Now I take BP meds and can't do it. My life was saved by someone donating when I was a baby, so I tried to "pass it on". I encourage all of you who are able to donate, it's the one thing medical science hasn't been able to duplicate successfuly. You might save a life.
BTW- when I was in VN, I worked at the Navy Hospital at Danang. We (the SEABEES) were the walking blood bank. Maybe some of you guys got some of my blood.0 -

I used to when I was really scrawny. I used to fill up a bag in about 3 minutes. I've gotten stockier since and they have to stick me 3-4 times before they get a vein, then they fish around for one, doesn't feel to great, then when they finally do get one it takes me 3-4 minutes to fill up a tube. 0 -

My next pint will be #69. Folks at the blood center say that each pint helps 3 people: (1)red blood cells, (2) white blood cells, and (3) platelets. 59 x 3 = 207. I feel good about that.....

i am to much of a germaphobe, i went once, and there was a used needle on the place i was to sit, i left emidietly, and i cannot get over the fact that the person taking the blood may have just came into contact with countless of other people blood, very sorry but i can't do it0 -

I'm ashamed to say that I don't. I have a major needle phobia. Not a minor needle phobia like some people.
Four times a year I need my cholesterol levels checked. It requires major dosages of Xanax just to make me manageable for drawing blood. On top of that, it takes three or four people to hold me down while the Xanax is in my system.
I wish I could give blood, but it just isn't going to happen.0 -
I don't because I pass out every single time, and the workers never believe me when I tell them in the beginning that I'll be passing out about the time the bag is full. I've got really low blood pressure, and it takes me a few minutes to adjust to the loss of blood. I've given about 8 times, and I tell them up front to "please watch me". They never pay close enough attention, and that is why I don't give anymore.

Haven't donated in a few years. In college I would double donate, one in each arm, they don't do that anymore bs a couple people died. I never had any negative reaction. 0 -

I usually donate whenever I can. I haven't donated recently because I am training for a marathon and donating puts a hit on the running. I will start up once the marathon(s) are complete. (I'm hoping to qualify for 2008 Boston marathon this year). 0 -

You should look into getting a pump, my son has one and it is way better than injections.
