Do you prefer Blue, Plated, or Stainless
I love stainless guns for their corrosion resistance, and I have seen some nice plated guns, but a deep polished blue finish goes straight to my heart. I'm not talking a mat blue or dip blue, I'm talking that old deep polished blue that used to come on Colts, Winchesters, Brownings, Remingtons and Smith & Wessons from the factory.

I confess a fondness for the shiny guns. I asked my wife one time if I turned her loose at a gun show to buy me something what would she choose and without batting an eye she said a revolver in nickel and I would be happy. Darned if she ain't right about that.
I hate the look of stainless. Looks cheap to me, like plastic. But both of my daily carry guns are stainless because they are practical. But I polished both to a high gloss.
How can anyone not like a gun like this?

I'm mostly stainless right now. Not the polished SS, but the smooth or matte.
Finely-machined stainless, in fact. Ever look at the underside of an MK9 slide? Beautiful!
A Smith revolver has the old school deeper blue, and side by side, the Ruger 38 looks shabby [but although the trigger is not as nice, it does fit better than the 10-5].
Another appeal is the ability to refinish an SS piece with a buff and fine sandpaper. I took, for example, a glove-box stainless TPH, deep wear marks, and brought it back to factory condition in half an hour.
There is, however, a place for blue. Just not for bling.0 -

...Different finish for different purposes.
...Some handguns scream to be of a certain finish to look their best too.
...I love case coloring on the recievers, triggers, hammers on lever guns, and most/some wheel guns.
...A rifle that I know is going to be in the rain a lot while hunting, SS w/synthetic stock....when possible. My main deer gun, my Browning is blued w/walnut furniture; but because of the rock hard clear finish Browning uses, don't worry none about the furniture...just clean and oil the poop outta all the steel.
...For a gun I carry a LOT, I like SS...does not tend to show holster wear as much as a blued.
...To me, probably nothing prettier than a nice deep blued Colt ([:D], is there any other?) 1911 [:p]...but I like the high polish on the Colt Custom too.
...Anodized, parked, matt finish...I like too, for the "wear" factor.
...and BRIGHT CHROME for my Raven, Jennings...for their "fear, attention getting" factor when I go to knock off a 7-11...[;)]0 -

It depends on the gun. But I like them all. I want one of everything when it comes to guns. I can have enough 0 -
I don't care for Nickel or other plated guns, obviously wood of the right selection looks great. Stainless polished on a carry gun with light glinting off it no thanks 0 -

Exactly!!! Every finish has a purpose. The little nickle plated chief special was carried by my mother until she died. Since 2001 it's been mine again. The stainless .357 I bought from a fellow officer who just happened to be female and now my wife carries it. The Colt Officer's ACP in stainless with the Hogue Kingwood grips (that Aaron Hogue's beautiful fiance' gave me at my first SHOT show) is mine that I carry. I must admit that I also am a fan of the Glock and have a model 23 that stays in my Suburban. I have never been a fan of a stainless rifle, however I recently purchased a Rem. 700 stainless, heavy bbl, laminate, 22-250. I have mat, parkerized, deep blue patina, case hardened and probably everything in between and I love them all.0 -
