I am no electrician, but I would say yes to both of your questions!
Any time you have exposed wires you are asking for trouble!0 -
I'd replace it.

I think you mean 220 volt. Don0 -
I'd say the wiring is ok. But I would change the receptacle cover, being that it looks to be broken. I'd also clean those dust bunnys off of there also. 0 -

This is my opinion too.....[:)][:)]

Recepticles are cheap. Life and houses aren't. Better change it out. 0 -
Naw, not dangerous, 'sure-ti-fried' safe!
It is just a matter of passage of time until the right incident/conditions cause injury or damage. Most likely the next time you clean out behind the stove or if a pet 'cleans up' a spill. Those receptacles can run $25 - $38...depends on shop.
Replace it! after turning off at the breaker box!!!!
BTW: there are a number of different outlet 'designs' available. Take the old one with you to the hardware store to ensure you get the right one...seriously.0 -
Change it. Looks like some rust/corrosion forming in there. 0 -
Do you have the cover for it??? also I would turn the power off and take an air hose and blow it out and then spray it down with some electrical cleaner, should be alright then. You can buy electrical cleaner in a spray can at you local auto parts store. Or Walmart. 0 -
It's not mine to change, this is where I work. I reported it to maintenance and he denied it was a problem and declined to make any repair. 0 -

Do you know how to spell OSHA?[;)]

That's exactly why I wanted some opinions on this. Not only can I spell OSHA, I know the number to IOSHA by memory.
One time this gas station kept posting their restroom was out of order to keep the drunks away at night. About the third day in row I stopped there for coffee in the morning I gave the clerk there the number for IOSHA and told urged him to call. It's not healthy to be unable to relieve yourself.0 -
What kind of business is it Henry?
Don0 -
For God's sake, replace that before there is a fire. 0 -
I probably would not stick my tongue on it but that is just me. 0 -

Sorry I'd rather not say, what my employer does is locally unique.
I do plan on pushing the issue and wanted some moral support from the gang here.0 -

Henry,
If it is a dwelling where people or animals sleep, I would raise hell, if it is a 9-5 shop, where everybody is awake, (or supposed to be) you will know when that puppy lights up and will have time to get out, then you can tell then you told them so.
Until then, don't wet mop around that outlet, and ask the maintenance guy if he could at least tape it up to keep dirt and dust out.

The damn thing is not going to burst into flames. It is not going to shock anyone unless they reach down and get hold of the bare wires. Suck it up and try to hold on to your job. Don0 -

Most of the time I fully agree with you!
But in the work place 100% safety for yourself and others takes priority!
This outlet is unsafe in any enviorment!, and should be fixed before any operations are performed useing it!0 -
You don't have any duct tape? What kind of man are you?

Well you need to look at the pic again. No bare wires, no open circuits. How is it dangerous? Nothing really more than what a extension cord is. Please look again. Don0 -

I will still disagree!
If you look in the red circle this looks like a bare metal electrical conection to me!

But it is not. The screws for that receptacle is much higher. Don't be so scared of shadows and live a little. Don0 -

That's not bare metal GRD. That paticular kind of wire has two layers of insulation on it. The main one on the outside, and a layer on the individual wires inside. The bare metal of the wire is higher up inside the cover.0 -

That is too flat to be wire! That is the conector that the wire goes into!0
