Had a crazy Friday night!
I, and a girl went with 3 other couples to see a band on Friday. It was in a small town with no police force about 20 miles from Champaign-Urbana. There were some bikers there. They were wearing "Armed Forces" colors, however I do not think they were associated with the United States Military(sarcasm). These were rough men.
As I was walking out, one of them looked at me, and I said "nice bike". He turned his bike off, got off of it, and said. "So what kind of bike do you have?" I said that I didn't have a bike. So he said, "Well what would make you think you're qualified to comment on mine?"
Then, 5-6 more bikers got behind him. I said "whoa, whoa. Hold on there guys. I'm not looking to start any trouble at all. I'm just going to leave." He looked at me again, and said something to the effect of "It's up to us now if, and how you leave."
I looked back, and I had two friends that could help--not near enough. I said to the group, "Hold on guys! If this man's got a problem with me that says he needs to beat the crap out of me that's fine. Everyone else back off." He smiled. Some other guy that was just standing there yelled, "That's a bunch of bullsh!!"
They proceeded to pummell him. The girl that I was with grabbed me, and said "get us out of here, Ben!"...so I did. I called the cops, and the bar before we left. As we were leaving, they were still beating the guy.
I don't think I did the right thing, but there was no way we could have taken these guys.[V]

Sounds like one-percenters, and the best place to be when they're around, is anywhere else. You probably used real good sense in leaving when you did.
This world is getting harder and harder, isn't it?

I'm not following your story...did his own friends turn on him? Who jumped in and helped you out of the situation? 0 -
I am confused - I think I missed something. Who did they beat up? One of their own or some other guy in the bar? 0 -

The guy that yelled "That's a bunch of BS!" got the crap knocked out of him. Random bystander.

Were you packing?
The world is full of idiots like that. Pretty bad you try to comment someone and they want to beat the hell out of you.0 -

I hate when that happens... poor bystander, but you never know what these guys' true agenda is... maybe they wanted a big fight for a distraction while the rest of the gang was robbing the payroll? or Maybe they wanted to "initiate" you. anyway, glad to hear you made it out ok.0 -
Bystander made it out. Got to his 4 Wheel drive and ran over all the bikes..[:D][:D] 0 -
what a bunch of B@$tards 0 -
How could you possibly leave? Someone comes to your defense and you and two friends abandon him? 4 against 6 or 7 is not good odds, but it is sufficient to keep someone from being severely hurt.
It has been 22-23 years since I last was in a bar fight, and a little longer than that since I last got my ass kicked in one. One always gets over physical pain, but I can't imagine how you are going to live with leaving the situation you describe.0 -
good idea to have a louisville slugger in the back seat.give em a attitude adjustment 0 -
I know doc, it's bothering me too...horribly.
I tried to talk the two other guys that could fight into going back across the street to help. They would not. The girl I was with was, of course, adamant that I go with them.
In the end, I had to make a decision. Did I want to be in the same situation the guy getting beat was in, or should I leave?
I left.

You were forced into a bad situation with no good solution. The bottom line is what is done is done. I sincerely wish you the best in dealing with it. 0 -
I usually try to avoid places where idiots "flock" together. 0 -

That's kinda what I was thinking.0 -
that's gotta be tough Ben...best of luck dealing with it. Did you try to call the police to see what came of the whole thing...or the bar? 0 -
Well, Next time say "crappy bike" and tell them you have the 2008 anniversary edition harley. 0 -
Didn't have your gun with ya? 0 -
NO WAY would i go to a place like that and NOT be packin'. 0 -
doesn't pay to leave the house some-days, guys he is talking about Illinois, if he was packing he would be in jail regardless of the outcome, 5-6 on one somebodies getting cut real bad, people freak when they find out i got a clip on in each pocket
lesson learned both of you should have kept to yourself, and a tight lip0 -
You did the right thing, Ben.
No sense in getting your or your buddies azz kicked or worse...stabbed, shot, bludgeoned and the ladies molested.
The bystander had his own reason to yell BS...that's his problem, not yours. IMO, you don't owe that guy anything.0 -
If you were ALONE, Ben, maybe you would have made another decision, but you were Chivalrous to guard and protect the woman with you.
I would have done EXACTLY the same, Ben...You did right. If they had touched your woman, then You would have gone into battle mode, but you were smart and Gentlemanly to retreat and protect.
My Hat's off to ya!0 -
I'm with Dolfan on this one.
Without a girl in tow, the outcome would have been different.0 -
ben, hint, next time dont look at,aknowledge,or talk to them. very dangerous unless you KNOW them. sad 0 -
If you were where Vinnie said you were gonna be, that town has a police force of more than any little town I have ever seen. They also have a know drug problem. My cousin was going to move there and she talked to one of the cops in town and they told her they had found needles at the play ground. Its got some good people don't misunderstand but it is also got some with issues. 0 -
I rode w/Bikers for many years and I can say that in my experience, this is not the norm.
The 1%'s will stomp the crud out of you IF you mess w/them. But I've never known anyone to take offense at a compliment on his bike.
Sounds like "wanna-be" bikers to me.
What part of the country was this in?0 -

Tolono is where it was at. I sure didn't see any cops there. You'd think that in a town with like 2 bars, that maybe a cop or two would drive by during closing time.

A town population of 2,700+ and no cops? Gotta agree with Fatstrat, I have ridden with 1%ers a couple of of times, and never had such problems, Tough guys yes, but not complete thugs. 0 -
Know when to walk away, know when to run. 0 -
ben, i do't think that was a 1% club at all. i read responses to that effect and wondered where it came from. did you see a 1% diamond on them. just Curious? and this was in urbana?[:)] 0 -
Update
It turns out that the other guy touched one of their "colors", which I guess is a "no-no". He patted one guy on the back, and told him that there was no need to get mad right before I came out.
I guess that started it, and then I walked up. When they were messing with me is when the guy who touched their colors came up, and said "that's a bunch of bullshi!!".
the guy that got beat up refused the ambulance, but went to the hospital later that morning, and was admitted. No other word on him.
They have almost if not all of the bikers' names that were involved. No word yet if charges are being pressed.
No, I did not have a gun. I also got to thinking that there's no way I'll carry a a 5-shot .38 under my seat anymore. Back to the 17 shot glock .40 for convenience. I wished I had a 12ga.
