Hey guys, Got my new project car
    DSC_0005-2.jpg

So i am trying to decide what engine i want to drop into her and i thought i would get some of your opinions.

It came with the original 289, But that is just enough Hp for me.

Basicaly i want to turn this car into a sleeper. As much power as i can possibly get while still keeping the car looking as stock as possible.

I've tossed around the idea of a 351 windsor and even thought of putting a 440 dodge in it[:p]

So what do you guys think?

P.s. I already know its not a chevy[;)]

Cheaperthandirt has two Cold Steel knives for half price, the Vaquero Grande and the large Voyager clip-point plain edge. I can't decide!!!!!!!

I have a tanto Voyager and it's a solid knife, I just hate that damn tanto point! (possible giveaway[;)])

    The case for the Voyager:
practical, easy to sharpen plain edge

    The case for the Vaquero:
    bad ass[}:)]

the down side- fully serrated blade

    Anyone own either/both?

Do you relize how little power the 289 realy has?

Almost any modern day car can beat the 289.

A 289 at best does 275 Hp, And in that old mustang with a full metal body that ain't saying to much.

Most modern day cars with a fiberglass body that have betwean 200 and 250 Hp can beat that.

I`d go with the original engine.I hate it when I see a nice looking car redone with meanie parts that don`t belong in it.It ruins my memory of what the car once was .

And I didn`t say meanie. Next time I`ll spell it bass turd.

How about rebuilding the 289 and adding a turbo charger kit to it. Or even a supercharger to pick up the extra power that you need.

I imagine that the cam profile will have to be changed and certain parts of the engine strengthened to handle the extra HP.

There's Rousch outlets peppered throughout the us. Dealers are listed under http://www.superformance.com

They have Ford 351 Windsors that are "tweaked" by Rousch for the Daytona coupes. New engines, not rebuilt. It will push that 'stang to near 200MPH. And they're street engines. Contact the nearest dealership to you. It should be a drop-in, or nearly so. Best, Joe

Ok guys, I can now see that many of you here are fans of keeping the car original.

Now i am going to rebuild the original engine and i am going to store it( Incase i would ever have to sell the car[V]), But i am not going to put that 289 in it for now.( I have this bad addiction to going realy, realy fast[:p])

The car will be almost all stock when i get done, except for the engine.

I'm sorry if this upsets you guys, but i tired of getting beat of the line by these dummies in Mazdas/Hondas/Toyotas[V]

I'd do a resto-mod using a 5.0 for a starting point. Maybe even an entire Fox body drive train?[?] You have tons of aftermarket stuff for the 302 HO. Go with a Tremec manual box......Sweet![:)]

Please, please, please...before you start modifying the stock powertrain, put the car on eBay, get a bunch of money for it, and buy what you REALLY want.

Having dealt with many early Mustangs - including the '64 260 GT Fastback that I bought NEW when I came home from the Army - please let me tell you that, without installing a tube frame, the unit body would twist itself into a pretzel with ANYBODY's big block. I also have experience with MOPARs, and can tell you that you won't be able to put a 440 in it without chopping the sheetmetal - including the firewall - to pieces.

If it was a '67, an FE Ford would go right in.

Much easier to get power from a 289 than a 351 Windsor.

To do it strong with the 289 basic block, first install a shortened 9" rear end. Then a 347 stroker kit for the 289, and Edelbrock aluminum heads.

Basically stock 289s can run quite well.

To do what it looks like you want to do, you are going to have AT LEAST $20,000, not including paint, interior, tires and wheels.

How much would you sell it for ??

    Doug

    By the way, Steven...

I don't know of any 200 to 250 Horsepower current cars with fiberglass bodies, except maybe Corvettes, and they have more power than that - don't they ??

Thanks for the advice doug, Thats why i dropped the 440 idea. Because i new it would require a lot of fabrication.

I don't plan on selling the car, This is going to be a project stretched out over many years.

The reason i don't want to stick with the 289 is because i have a friend who has put over 10 grand in his and he still only runs 15's at the drag strip. My STOCK 07 mustang gt leaves him in the dust[V]

Your friend just threw money at it. If he had designed it first, he would easily be in the 13s with less than $5,000 in mods.

If you would like some help, email me. I have a lot of knowledge about them that is currently not helping anyone.

Don't think that it is a fiberglass car.

Also, they are priced from $28K to $35K plus ADM.
