NRA and ZOMBO
I am a proud Life Member of the NRA but I am a little pissed at the NRA right now. Why hasnt the NRA made comment over this Zumbo dumbo thing. I havnt seen a thing from them, I get emails daily from them and nothing. I sure hope the NRA dont back burner this that would really piss me off!!!! [:(!][:(!][:(!]

Well, yeah, as a lifetime NRA member I am getting a little upset with them about some things. But in regards to Zumbo, it appears that others have already turned him into burnt toast so maybe the pro-gun rights organizations have better ways to spend their limited efforts.0 -

I am not a Fan of the NRA, but not a total hater since they are one of the few gun groups that are big enough to do something, even though something usually isnt much. The best thing that the NRA has done for AR-15 and other rifles in the EBR/NON PC/"assualt rifle" is NOTHING. The times they do things about those kind of firearms we seem to loose [V]. You know if Jim had said something that bad about anykind of gun supported by the "fudds" NRA would have been up making statements and answering Emails just the the Remington President others.
Now all that being said the NRA is large and it is run by "fudds". I belive it is TR Fox that is always pushing to get people to join the NRA and no one wants to because we say they dont support us. Well if had the out pour of people that we have over this Jim thing sign up for the NRA and VOTE the "fudds" out and put someone in that TRULY supports the 2A. I was always not too sure how well that would work but this weekend PROVED how strong we are WHEN WE DO SOMETHING besides sit on the couch and complain.0 -

I suspect it has more to do with not wanting to offend a large portion of the membership who share Zumbo's views.
Zumbo has already been torn apart by the shooting community. What does the NRA stand to gain by joining in? More importantly, what does it stand to lose?

The NRA is way to busy playing politics with the rich to worry about Zumbo. I have lost alot of faith in the NRA over the years, because I see them acting too much like the good old boys on capital hill. They take the hard earned money from their members and spend it on huge country club for canned hunts for Lapeirre and his cronies, and play the liberal game of scare the public with their coming to get your gun scheme, for more funds. I would rather put my money to better use and support a second amendment organization that uses the funds for the purpose of defending the second amendment. 0 -

...Yeah the NRA & I parted company in the early 80's! I was up in Alaska and got "heavy" into guns ...trading, buying, and gunsmithing. I had been a member since 1966 (my high school days) Anyway about that time California was trying to pass proposition 15, where they "limit the number of handguns in the state. I was getting mail from the NRA about every 3rd day wanting money to fight prop 15, "things are close" they said. Also about that time I needed some information on heat treating services for gun parts...just a name and phone number or address, so I wrote them. They wrote me back to "look in the phone book"! ...I again wrote them, telling them I lived in ALASKA ...NO heat treating serviced here, PLEASE send me anything. Got a letter back ..."we really don't have any call to that information"! ...I also received another flyer requesting more money to fight Prop 15, again it's "so close"! ...Days later Prop 15 was defeated by a margin of 10 to 2!!! I wrote back to the NRA expressing my displeasure with there performance, and told them to keep their magazine and to drop my name from their roles! ...Been like that since.
The NRA is only interested in saving it's self! ...in the name of gun ownership! *L*0 -

While I understand the concern over the lack of comment from the NRA about the ZUMBO incident. What I REALLY find curious is the lack of comment from them about the newly proposed ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN. This bill was introduced over a week ago (Feb. 13) and there is no word of it on their web site. (which has been updated as of today Feb. 21)
Granted, I did not go to EVERY page on their site, but one would think something this important would at least warrant "some kind" of comment/link on their front page. Or at least their legislation page, if not their grassroot alert page. But NOTHING??? Just what ARE we paying them for?
I would have hoped they would be a LITTLE more ALERT to this kind of legislation. What are they waiting for? Are they going to support this legislation? Since I haven't heard, don't know one way or the other. We (NRA members) have to find out about this via internet forums???0 -

Twelve other states are considering high-tech registration of firearms through ballistic imaging. On the list are Texas, Minn, Louisiana, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, North Carolina, and Mississippi plus five others are pondering whether to ban gun shows.
It surprises me that folks on this board wonder what the NRA is doing. I don't think you are making much of an effort to find out!
Take a look at www.nraila.org to see what is happening on the battlefront. check their news website and suscribe to one of their monthly magazines, the mag is free to life members.
They are fighting a battle on so many fronts that they can't hope to keep up. Not that much money in their treasury folks! The little group of 3 million dues payers can't hold off the other 297 million in this country without some serious help.0 -

Doesn't take much effort to publicly repudiate a moron, but the effort seems to be too much for them to muster the interest for.
A volunteer from the organization, a computer and authorization to move on it would do it.
Maybe we should donate some money to them so they can hire someone for the 1 minute or so that it would take to get it done????

Are they so busy fighting possible state gun bans, that they will let a federal one through? Which by the way, as I'm sure you know, would trump ANY state ban, whether the states passed them or not would be irrelevant at that point.

If they were REALLY PRO-gun, there would be nothing to bash, would there?
Any organization that makes the claim that they are championing my rights, then turns around and supports ANTI-gun legislation, through action, or inaction, NEEDS to have their actions brought out into the limelight.
Of course there are those who places such organizations so far up on a pedestal, no matter what, believe members should leave their heads buried in the sand. That kind of attitude is what has gotten us 20,000 UNconstitutional gun laws. To give ANYONE free rein, who claims to be fighting for my rights, with absolutely NO accountability??? Is that what is being taught/believed today? SAD. [V]
If you feel an organization does enough good to warrant your continued support, by all means, join them. Then, if you find something you do not agree with, TELL THEM. I do, I'm a member, I vote, and encourage other to do so as well. You can't vote to change their actions from the outside. Become a member, so you CAN help/make changes.
Works the same way our government is supposed to. If you don't like what the leaders are doing, isn't it your duty to let others know, so there can be a vote for change? I received the following email from NRA today, in response to
my "dump zumbo" email:
"Everyone here at NRA Publications is angered and confused by the thoughts expressed by Jim Zumbo. We all know him well; he has been a periodic contributor to our magazines and a staunch supporter of the NRA for many years. But we cannot understand what led him to believe or write such things. Of course he's entitled to his opinion, but his opinion is certainly not one shared by the NRA staff. All semi-automatic firearms are just that; semi-automatic. there can be no differentiation between them simply based on external appearance. Mr. Zumbo has never been an employee of the NRA, and we have no plans to publish any articles by him in the future. Contributions by him to NRA media are hereby suspended, effective immediately.

Did a brief search on google. The guy basically said semi auto rifles should not be owned by civilians... and called them "terrorist rifles"
Gee wise guy, I thought terrorist use full auto's? They have no regard for the law, and don't seem to have any trouble illegally acquiring various types of weapons... ranging from belt fed machine guns to high explosives.0
