I received the following email from NRA today, in response to
    my "dump zumbo" email:

"Everyone here at NRA Publications is angered and confused by the thoughts expressed by Jim Zumbo. We all know him well; he has been a periodic contributor to our magazines and a staunch supporter of the NRA for many years. But we cannot understand what led him to believe or write such things. Of course he's entitled to his opinion, but his opinion is certainly not one shared by the NRA staff. All semi-automatic firearms are just that; semi-automatic. there can be no differentiation between them simply based on external appearance. Mr. Zumbo has never been an employee of the NRA, and we have no plans to publish any articles by him in the future. Contributions by him to NRA media are hereby suspended, effective immediately.
Please know that your support and interest in our publications are deeply appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    John Zent
    Editorial Director
    NRA Publications"

    Bold print added for emphasis.

I greatly appreciate your posting of the above.

    TR -
I was surprised to receive a reply after only one day,
and I had to share it with all.
It was a bit too polite for my liking, but at least they did something. . . . .

Here's my questioning email and The NRAs response.

(FAIRFAX, VA) - The following statement was issued by the National Rifle Association
    of America.
Comments expressed by outdoor writer Jim Zumbo reflect neither the opinions of the
National Rifle Association and America's gun owners, nor are they an accurate
portrayal of facts in regard to semi-automatic firearms lawfully owned by millions
of citizens. Therefore, NRA Publications has suspended it professional ties with
    Mr. Zumbo.
The ensuing wave of grassroots response in support of the Second Amendment is a
clear indication that America's gun owners will act swiftly and decisively to
counter falsehoods or misrepresentations perpetuated by any member of the media -
whether it is one of the major networks or a fellow gun owner.
That depth of feeling and the unanimity of the response from the nation's firearms
owners sends a message to the new Congress. It says that millions of people
understand the issue of semi-autos and will resist with an immense singular
political will any attempts to create a new ban on semi-automatic firearms.
At the root of this grassroots response is the basic truth that 'gun control merely
makes the innocent pay the price for the guilty' and our folks fully understand
that their rights are at stake. It says that for the enemies of the Second
Amendment there is no chance that the kind of divide and conquer propaganda
strategy which preceded the 1994 ban on semi-auto firearms will ever succeed again.
It is our hope that Mr. Zumbo will use his energy and talent to help preserve our
Second Amendment, America's First Freedom, by ensuring that no one else falls prey
to the tragic demonization of gun owners.

Message: What is going on ? After last weeks comments by Jim Zumbo, his ties with
Remington, Mossy Oak, High Mtn seasoning have already been severed and hopefully his
ties with Cabelas and the NRA are forthcoming. When are we going to hear a public
statement from Wayne La Pierre or others commenting on this grave transgression, he
did more harm in a few sentences than some senators have done wit votes. I am highly
concerned at the what seems to be a lack of attention that the NRA is giving this
and this lack of commment is being the subject of discussion on gun/hunting websites
that a frequented by members, life members (like my self), and endowment members. We
want to hear a public comment stand on this.

Calling owners of military-style semi-auto rifles "terrorist" is akin to calling fly-fishing democrats a bunch of limp-wristed sissies.

Well, maybe I couldda came up with a better analogy.

    Hey Zumbo...

If semi auto's are terrorist rifles, what does that make full auto's ?
