Do you speed?
The radar topic got me wondering, how many of us have a lead foot?
Honestly sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I sometimes set the cruise control at 65, other times will be doing 80. Speed limit in OH is 55 on country roads, 60 on the highway in the city, and 65 in the country. Ohio is fairly flat and most highways straight so if I'm scanning ahead I can see the cops a long way off, hit the 'off' button and let the car coast down to the speed limit. Never gotten a ticket yet, got pulled over once for doing 35 in a 25 zone.

I routinely go 2-3 over the limit on the interstates, and about 5 over in town. Got my first ticket in '98 while a sophomore in college, vow never to get another. 0 -
just under 10 on highway, 5 normally. Thats a given being a criminal justice major and working with cops,those numbers are given, past that your pressing your luck. 0 -
10 to 20 over all the time,except when someone is riding in the fast lane and wont get over(usually someone from texas or arkansas). 0 -
Only speed on highways you'd get run over around here if you tried to do the 55mph limit everyone goes 70mph+. On side streets that are marked 25mph I go 25mph. Major roads that are marked 45, I'll do 49. 0 -

Hate to admit it, but I speed everyday. The limits are just too low around here, Rt. 2 (Ritchie Highway) is a 4 lane highway, but the speed limit is 35 in places, thats just insane. 0 -
When I'm headed to work and the cops have more to choose from I go 75-80 in a 65. At night when I get off and the streets are bare and the police are more then likely bored and looking for something or someone to do I go max 70 and usually 65 in a 65. 0 -
Most of the time I run 55-62 in a 55. At work a lot of times I'm really in a hurry when something breaks. It's not uncommon for me to be running 85-90 on a parts run, sometimes faster. When I'm out cruising in my old truck in my signature most of the time it's at the speed limit or 5 over. I do on occasion run it up a bit. The big problem is the street tires don't get any bite if I drop the hammer under 60 mph. It will black track for 50 yards when I nail it at 60. Dave 0 -

Ah, the joys of aging.
Almost tough to admit but I have to agree with this and I'm only 26. I used to think it was important to not get passed but I don't care now. Gas is getting too expensive. The tickets are expensive. Insurance. It just isn't worth it to me anymore.
If I'm on somebody elses schedule, sometimes I have to. I'll never be a morning person. On my own schedule with time, I don't care when I get there. I'm normally a few minutes late to every function in my life. Despite the extra few mph. Never plan it that way. Just seems to end up that way.
I don't like slow drivers though. All I ask is for 55, 60. I don't want to have to take action to get around someone that is retired, putzing along and doesn't feel like going the speed limit because they haven't had anywhere to go in the last decade.
Traffic is safest when there is a steady flow, whatever the speed may be. The speed limit doesn't seem like much to ask of people.0 -

I've gotten a 65 in a 45, lucky me, I was probably running 80.
I still speed, not through town or on populated streets. Out in the country the wife and I well take a drive and open it up.
Dad and I went to a Cub game last August, the entire drive home we had to run 110+ or we were going to get run over. I was in the right lane doing 110-120 and gettin passed.

My wife just got nailed for 60 in a 45. She told me she was lucky because just before that she was going 80. I asked her if her speeding ended up saving her time with being pulled over. Then I asked her why she wasted our money. Ticks me off because I tell her over and over don't bleening speed so fast, but she never listens, like talking to a brick wall. Then I'm the bad guy when I get pissed about wasting our money.
The ticket she got I could of bought a damn gun, yet she acts like I'm spending all our money if I buy a damn gun. Sorry I'm done ranting.0 -

Been 170+mph on I95, and 160+ on local roads. used to drag on local roads,..got over all that expense and moved on. The 170+ was a 7 series BMW and the 160+ was a Corvette with 500HP at the rear wheel. If you tell me it will do "x",..you gotta know I am going to try it[:D] Now,..I drive regular vehicles and run mostly +10mph with cruise control set.0 -
I stay within 10mph over. That way no tickets. I hear it costs way too much now a days to go to court. Not only the ticket/fine but you have to pay court costs even if your found innocent? WTH [?]
Plus it saves gas and at $3.25/gallon I still need money for ammo.[:p]0 -

Well, I don't know about you guys but I've become a self proclaimed expert at spotting cops at long distances. Whether it has saved me yet or not I don't know but probably has. I always spot a traffic cop, day or night, at least 5 seconds before anybody else I'm with does. The car has to be be behind something for me not to see it or coming at me at night. Some instances you can't avoid so I really try to take it easy, although it is tough sometimes.
Was driving 50 miles home from work on a long country road last year. Dark, cloudy afternoon. I was going 70 in my truck. Not another soul in sight on a long straight away. Maybe 2 miles long.
Came up over a small hill, and up the road, it had to be a mile away, I see a pair of headlights in the distance come around the sharp curve from behind the corn field. I had just popped up over the hill as he was goming around the curve coming at me , and I bet I was 3/4 of a mile away when the guy had already turned into a field entrance in my lane, waiting to pull me over. County sherrif.
I've never seen a cop react that fast from that far away. Some instances you can't avoid, but at least I got out of that one with a warning. I was fortunate because the guy was not a friendly character. I'm sure I wasn't the first to be pulled over on that stretch and 70 is modest.0
