Do you speed?
The radar topic got me wondering, how many of us have a lead foot?
Honestly sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I sometimes set the cruise control at 65, other times will be doing 80. Speed limit in OH is 55 on country roads, 60 on the highway in the city, and 65 in the country. Ohio is fairly flat and most highways straight so if I'm scanning ahead I can see the cops a long way off, hit the 'off' button and let the car coast down to the speed limit. Never gotten a ticket yet, got pulled over once for doing 35 in a 25 zone.

75 in a 55 zone in Texas years ago. Got a warning. 72 in a 55 longer ago, got a ticket for a "violation of the fuel conservancey act." This was during the Carter adminsitration and first "oil shortage." Little podunk place in Missouri that survived on speeders. One other ticket in Lincoln County, NM (Billy the Kid country). That is all in 45 years of more or less continuous speeding. Never, ever speed in school zones, though. I am slowing in my dotage however, rarely set the cruise for over 80 anymore (no matter which state).
One of my best was a run from St. Louis to Albuquerque in 16 hours.0 -
Wife got a ticket running 96 in a 55 construction zone.
OUCH!
Luckily that was just before she met me.
I've gotten a 65 in a 45, lucky me, I was probably running 80.
I still speed, not through town or on populated streets. Out in the country the wife and I well take a drive and open it up.
Dad and I went to a Cub game last August, the entire drive home we had to run 110+ or we were going to get run over. I was in the right lane doing 110-120 and gettin passed.0 -
When I was in Grad School (1981), I got a speeding ticket for 33 in a 30. Local town LEO's did not like University students. I paid the ticket because it was impossible to survive without an ID in a College town.
Almost 20 years later I met an attorney who was a Asst. State's Attorney's office during my college years. I told him the ticket story and he told me it was too bad I did not show up for court because they dismissed most of these tickets.0 -

I typically drive 5 mph over the limit. If you don't, you stand a good chance of being ass-packed here in Colorado.
Fastest I've ever been clocked is 122mph in Wisconsin, back when the speed limit was 55mph. I had a radar detector and picked it up and started braking. Cop and I had a nice chat (really) and he wrote up the ticket for 79mph, making less paperwork for him and no jail for me.0 -

I'm quickly getting to the age where I'm just not in that big of a damn hurry to get to where I'm going.
Realizing, of course, that it's a short step from "Not in a big hurry..." to
"Impeding traffic"...

Only speed on trips of more than 35 miles, and open road.
In cars, I'll run just below its' max speed on long trips - leave at midnight and drive all night. Try to time my departure so that I won't be around a city when the bars close.
On motorcycles, I will seldom exceed 1000 MPH.

Very rarely do I speed anymore, but I did for alot of years.
When I drove truck I typically went about 5 to 7 mph over when I was paid by the mile.
After I got into a union job paying by the hour I went 55mph tops. After all why risk the ticket when I was makeing such great money takeing my time.
Now in my personal viechle and since I'm not working anymore I have no reason to get in a hurry. I cruise right at the posted speed limit and not worry.
My driveing record today also reflects this as I have nothing on it.0 -

Used to, but not anymore. maybe will do 68 in 65 and 27 in 25. unless you're traveling 1500 miles in one setting it ain't worth the trouble and most importantly -- the risk. 0 -
never anymore,as a youngster yes,when i was 16 my brother in law had a built 240z datsun,and it was a standard,he often let me drive it,one night me and a friend were 30 miles from home and he tells me he has to be home in 15min. or he will be grounded,this is 11:45pm,so we leave this girls house and head for the four lane,wide open,i tell him once i'm over 100mph that i'm not taking my eyes off the road,we stretch it out to 120 then 130 then he says a car is in front of us so i ease into the left lane and start gaining on it,i am having a hard time catching it to pass,after about a mile i zoom by at around 135mph,guess who? ohio state patrol,i blow right by him,he hits the red lights and i try to slow it down to pull over it took about a 1/4 mile to stop.needless to say he was pi$$ed off,he gets me out of the car and says he was pacing me with his radar,he is in a 77 impala,he says i thought you were going to try and out run me and you easily could have,he said he was going 110mph when i passed him and his hood was ready to blow off [77 impalas were not aerodynamic] i said no sir, in the end after 45min lecture he let me go for 90 in a 55, he said that when he was 16 he had a 440 challenger and was caught doing the same thing[:0]and the trooper that pulled him over let him go for 90 in a 55 too, the court took my lic. for 100 days,my dad took them for 100 more,my brother in law told me later that he had the 240z up to 160. pegged the speedo before. the trooper said he had me at 141mph,and he told my father that outside the courthouse,re. he took them for the 2nd 100 [}:)][:D][V]Loko 0 -
Its often hard not to, so I remember this myself. But in a school zone I have no mercy. On the interstate I'll give you 6-7 miles over the speed limit, if your over that you likely know it and you will see blue lights in your mirror[}:)]. 0 -

I never go faster than I feel comfortable with. Some vehicles are safer than others for cruising at 100mph. I had an 89 corvette that was rock solid at 100mph, same with my Mercedes E320. I had an 89 mazda 323 that would make your azz pucker up at 90mph![:0] 0 -

Usually go between the speed limit and 5 over, depending on where I am driving at the time. I actually enjoy driving. I'm not in a hurry to get anywhere and getting somewhere 5 minutes earlier doesn't outweigh a possible ticket to me. Besides, the ticket would cut into my gun money[:D].

Usually try to keep it about 9mph over the limit on highways. If my daughter is in the car I pretty much go the speed limit. In 15 yrs of driving I have 3 speeding tickets, none in the past 8 years or so. Went 150mph on my bike once...I sold that when I was about 24, don't really miss it. Funny how much kids and marriage will change you!!! 0 -
I usually drive 61-64 mph in a 55 zone. My car gets better mileage there than it does at 55. 0 -

My first 4 speeding tickets were for 96, 97, 98 and 99 MPH, I was doing 120 to 130 for each of them, the nice officer's dropped the speed because I "was a good kid" and they didn't want to arrest me.
I used to do alot of illegal road racing and I had my Camaro pegged out at 175 many times here on local freeways.
Now I just drive behind fastest car on the freeway, usually around 80 or 85, but on long trips I set the cruse at 75.0 -
Do the limit, or plus 5 now,.......no tickets, or accidents, in over 20 years!
When I was 18, got a trip downtown, for doing 135 in a 55 zone, at 3AM on a lonely 2 lane road in my Z-28. Lost my license for a few days, and got a work permit, until it was restored fairly quickly. The insurance tought me a big lesson.[;)]0 -
I hit 100mph three times today.
No, I wasn't in a hurry. I just felt like it.
Country road. No traffic. Radar detector.
Sometimes I do it just because my car likes to![:D]0
